Tales of the Urban Explorer: Eldon Grove Estate
‘Revolutionary housing’ was the buzzword in 1911 when ‘Eldon Grove Estate’ was built. This was an attempt to replace the slums of Liverpool’s ‘Vauxhall’ area with decent quality housing.
What was ‘decent’ then surely is no more. The ‘Tudor’ appearance might look appealing from the front, but the back looks, pictorial-wise, fucking awful.
Why I missed this estate after many visits to Liverpool beats me. While it’s not strictly Grade-A exploring material, it does have its merits.

As usual with Liverpool, I was more concerned my car might be missing a wheel or two after thirty minutes in the ‘Eldon Grove Estate’ complex, if that’s what you can call it.
Stepping between the wooden slats, access was simple, as the wall you can see can be walked around with ease.
If only Thomas Shelmerdine had spent a few more pennies and added the fake ‘Tudor’ look to the rear, it might have been cool to live on ‘Eldon Grove Estate’ during the First World War.
It does strike me as odd that a major development such as this happened when most of England’s men were in the trenches, needlessly dying.
I note that the same bloke was responsible for ‘Everton Library’, one of my bane explores, that’s just ‘down the road’. If only he’d built a backdoor for would-be explorers of the future, very selfish, I say.
Who’s going to get the mail, #53 or #54, or do they fight it out? What happens if your next-door neighbour is a cunt, and steals your ‘Call up to the War’ demand? There’s no excuse for joining a needless war and losing a few limbs, is there?
There was little in the way of plush carpets in 1911. Try not to go up there in bare feet, as it could get a little chilly around the ankles.
Privacy in those days?, at least not when you lived on the ‘Eldon Grove Estate’. Respect your neighbours, keep your ears closed even when you can hear them shagging through the walls, or have a bad life.
As much as I would say there are things to burn here, there isn’t. Maybe it all happened before we got here?
It does look like there were handrails once, but now you seriously have to watch your step, and that’s hardly new.
Some guardrails are better preserved than others; some balconies need more weed killer than others.
I suspect someone tried to renovate this room. The new wooden beams and a skylight in the roof. The WW1 residents would freak out at such a futuristic vision.
Not even the local Liverpool sprogs hang out here; it’s just not interesting or cool enough.
A lovely place to live, so long as it’s not raining and the seasons never change from ‘Summer’.
I suppose the locals would think themselves ‘pretend royalty’ living in a dream complex with a ‘Tudor’ look. If it wasn’t all burnt, I guess it could be quite striking.
The grounds look like they have giant moles roaming the area. I’m guessing the kids who did live here used this as a play area, if they could avoid being eaten by the blind inhabitants who could surface at random, unpredictably.
Which floor would you prefer: ground, middle or top?
Swing on the fence barriers once too often, and you’re in for a 12-foot drop and a visit to the local hospital.
Why is this still here and not demolished? It’s the usual reasons.
The situation has dragged on for years. Numerous redevelopment schemes have been proposed, including conversion into apartments, but delays, legal disputes and ownership issues have repeatedly stalled progress.
As recently as 2026, reports described the Grade II listed complex as having stood derelict for decades while investigations and legal matters continued.

Before we left, I had to walk up the length of the back area to see if I was missing anything.
Not really, as I mentioned before…, the back is a nightmarish eyesore. I do wonder what the locals who live around this ghoulish monstrosity think?
We live and wait. It could look great again if someone has endless pockets of sterling to do it all up.

Yes, a little late arriving. Still, no thugs around to hassle us, and I did like the Tudor feel to it. I also left with all my wheels intact, a bonus.

Hello everyone I hope you are all good and well today in this post is some of the evidence to prove my case
If you didn't know I've been getting downvoted for a long time on Hive
They have been trying to bully me with downvotes and words but it doesn't affect me I've been online for over 25 years
So I've dealt with people like this before it's nothing new
But what they are doing is bad Very badi joined steemit like everyone else thinking it offers freedom but I must say steemit offered much more freedom than Hive does

If you didn't know I've been getting downvoted for a long time on Hive
They have been trying to bully me with downvotes and words but it doesn't affect me I've been online for over 25 years

I can't imagine anyone thinking this property could be saved in the current state it's in. Even the back of the building looks like quality construction compared with what we have here in America from that timeframe. We had a lot of old WWI-era apartment buildings in our old neighborhood. The front of the buildings looked like the back of these, without decoration and in red brick, but the backs of the buildings were constructed of a cheaper beige brick made of a softer stone that deteriorated from decades of being exposed to the elements. It looked as though the walls were melting.
That's the protected Grade II listed building trap. If you own it, it can't be demolished..., only renovated. This is why there's so many of them here. Too expensive to modernise it, better to leave it to rot away.
What a nightmare for the owner. Mother nature and time are demolishing it for them. I'm surprised more of these don't "accidentally" catch fire.

If you didn't know I've been getting downvoted for a long time on Hive
They have been trying to bully me with downvotes and words but it doesn't affect me I've been online for over 25 years
So I've dealt with people like this before it's nothing new
But what they are doing is bad Very badi joined steemit like everyone else thinking it offers freedom but I must say steemit offered much more freedom than Hive does
Everyone already knows I only post my own original content I have no need to steal anything from anyone

If you didn't know I've been getting downvoted for a long time on Hive
They have been trying to bully me with downvotes and words but it doesn't affect me I've been online for over 25 years
So I've dealt with people like this before it's nothing new

If you didn't know I've been getting downvoted for a long time on Hive
They have been trying to bully me with downvotes and words but it doesn't affect me I've been online for over 25 years

Hello everyone I hope you are all good and well today in this post is some of the evidence to prove my case
If you didn't know I've been getting downvoted for a long time on Hive
They have been trying to bully me with downvotes and words but it doesn't affect me I've been online for over 25 years
So I've dealt with people like this before it's nothing new
But what they are doing is bad Very badi joined steemit like everyone else thinking it offers freedom but I must say steemit offered much more freedom than Hive does
