Still pouring rain all morning from a snarling storm roar of the day before. It suited my brooding mood lacking all motivation to move. I get no respite when there’s a nudging inside to either do, or not do something until I submit. Sometimes there’s a bit of negotiation in this dialogue, especially when what I want most is to resist.

No peace with constant internal shoves to get a move on. Discussion inside. Get out the door. Take photography equipment with me, but the deal is, I don’t have to take photos if I don’t want to, if I don’t feel that energy moving in me. Resistance and resentment at submitting in order to bring the nudging roar inside to a halt. I am so not feeling it. I am in the clutches of despair about the state of humanity. This comes and goes ever more so now than previous days of old.

FALLING LEAVES

02_GIF_Falling Leaves.gif
Page break.png
At my favourite haunt. This cemetery and I have a twenty plus year relationship I can’t describe in one post. Suffice to say, I’ve shot thousands of photos here, done countless hand drawings, and carved sculptures from cut down trees. I was given permission to remove cut down wood I wished to carve. Many people have been kind in giving me materials to carve over the years.
Page break.png
03.JPG
Page break.png
Sunlight was out in full force flinging it's lusty beams everywhere by the time I arrived at the cemetery. Colourful dancing displays of leaves continuously falling from hardwood trees. Water droplet decadence on a dewy bedspread of leaves. It was almost surreal. Camera out, click, click, click, can’t stop, totally mesmerized by what I see. Mood, what was that? Instant evaporation and transportation into another world, one full of light.
Page break.png
04.JPG
Page break.png
It was hard to narrow down images to include here. I don’t typically ever have a problem with deciding what to axe out of a post. This is a first. I kind of gave up with several, solving that only by making gifs in Photoshop. It’s taken me longer to put all of this together than I originally intended.

For the first gif with leaves falling, I took a continuous series of photos standing in the same spot. I was entranced by the amount of falling leaves. I thought I’d attempt taking enough still shots to create a gif. I’ve attempted this before with other subjects and failed. I don’t carry a tripod with me because I’m tripod lazy, even at home. I have my reasons for that.
Page break.png
05.JPG
Page break.png
After that, I switched to the macro lens to home in on all these water droplets patterning the bed of leaves. Shadows from midafternoon sun gave more possibilities.
Page break.png
06.JPG
Page break.png
When I know I’m going to shoot macro photos outside, particularly in sunlight, I take some extra tools with me. I had a cd and the broken magnification lens with me. In the above photo, I used the cd to reflect light into part of the shadow area, beginning in the bottom centre and angled left.
Page break.png
07.JPG
Page break.png
In this photo, the blades of grass behind the leaf create these soft greenish lines in the leaf. No use of extra tools for this photo.

The next two photos are typical of what I saw all around me for several metres. Water droplets everywhere. Sunlight lighting them up to white gold reflected all around. Unreal. I’m dazzled, slightly dazed and drunk on the entire scene. First time I’ve ever experienced this kind of vision.
Page break.png
08.JPG
Page break.png

Page break.png
I had to remind myself not to go kicking up leaves in each area before taking photos. Out comes the cd again in another spot. First one I caught a miniature rainbow across the leaf. In the next, caught sunlight playing green in the shadows. I find a cd is very useful in sunlight painting, so it’s one of my favourite tools.

Page break.png
The following two images are where I ran into a wall the finger axe blade couldn’t slice through. In both, I used the cd to create the light effects across the leaves. Since I couldn’t select one image for either of these, I made two gifs showing the sequence of light play on each leaf. Differences in light are a result of angle of the cd and position of the camera.

LEAF LIGHT PLAY

13_GIF_Leaf Light Play.gif
Page break.png
Found a carcass hanging in a spider’s web on a tombstone. Looked quite fresh but gave up the ghost before the spider comes back to feast. Sometimes I take photos of insects. Not the focus here. The earwig’s shadow shifting in the breeze caught my eye, looking like a miniature dragon type creature.
Page break.png
14.JPG
Page break.png
Switched out the macro for my standard lens and continued my slow stroll. Wet means puddles. Puddles mean reflections. A fascination since I was a teenager. Add that to my list of favourite subjects. I have so many; more than I ever have time for.
Page break.png
15.JPG
Page break.png
Sometimes I see reflections as a window into another world.
Page break.png
16.JPG
Page break.png
Sometimes I like the reflections to be hazy, rippled, indistinct, or abstracted.
Page break.png
17.JPG
Page break.png
Sometimes it’s more about what’s on the surface with the reflection itself obscured. The contrast between the two.
Page break.png
18.JPG
Page break.png
Sometimes there are landscapes I feel like I could fall into forever.
Page break.png
19.JPG
Page break.png
Sometimes there are bright splashes of leaves colour wash reflected across water.
Page break.png
20.JPG
Page break.png
Sometimes a car cruises through creating a temporary chaos of bubbles and water ripples shattering plant matter.
Page break.png
21.JPG
Page break.png
The last gif I created from a single photo immediately after said car unexpectedly parted the puddle where I was taking photos. I almost didn’t take this shot until I saw the white spots of the foam making snow in the watery reflection. Another reminder to not allow whatever mood I’m experiencing direct the course of my day. Instead, shift it all and move it away.

Wow, you have some incredible photography skills. I haven't seen leaves presented in quite the way you have captured them here. I found the form within the first photograph the most striking. Please carry on with sharing your gift with us!

Gorgeous photos. Glad you found sun. I'm falling asleep at the wheel. Reblogging. will comment more later.

Thank you! Short dark days with limited sun makes me want to hibernate, so some sun time at this time of year is a must. I just consoled myself today (so dreary outside), that it's not long before the days start to lengthen again.

I'm falling asleep at the wheel.

That is not helpful and also why you need wings. Wings means not needing to be navigating a wheel thingee.

Lol but falling asleep at the wing sounds like certain death!

Almost the return of the sun. The SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOW return...

Not if you have a wingcrowwoman companion.

Mid-January is when I notice the light lengthening and changing. I count the days until then, but in the waking dream, I can make sunshine anytime. 😉

Your favorite words wrapped up in one comment is what this says. No tipohs or anything either, exactly what you want it to say.

The third up from the bottom is so nice I demand you release all the rights to me. <3

Hmmm, my favourite words; didn't know I had any, oh, wait, I do, but I can't say what they are.

The third up from the bottom is so nice I demand you release all the rights to me. <3

I've never seen you make any demand, not ever. I'm impressed. I also see why you like that one, which is also one of my favs. Thanks @dandays!

It's a very different concept, but I think it's successful.

That was wonderful to watch and read!!

Sometimes there are landscapes I feel like I could fall into forever.

yes! and I like that you call them windows into another world.
...it was beautiful to watch, an all the turns you took, from macro and the light to the puddles, oh and the dragon caught in the spiderweb:)

Thank you so much @kesityu.fashion! This is the shoot before taking the leaf print photos on the way home. Yes...windows into another world. It all changes depending on one's position, plus wind with ripples and other things. Sort of a magical moving constantly changing world.

the dragon caught in the spiderweb:)

😂 my little bit of silly fun in that moment.

Thanks @meesterboom! The earwig kept swinging in the wind the whole time. Shot about twenty photos trying to catch the right angle for that little shadow creature. 😁

I have tried to take similar shots of beasties in the wind and you keep snapping away thinking stay still dammit! :OD

LOL! Yes, that's pretty much what I was thinking fifteen clicks in to getting that shot.

I do envy those trips to the cemetery. It's one I'd really love to take.

The burst shot thing has given me an idea. I will get shooting and make a gif off of them. It looks so cool

It's one I'd really love to take.

Make it a reality; envy does no one any good. 😉

The burst shot thing has given me an idea. I will get shooting and make a gif off of them.

Go for it! If it doesn't work out the first time, keep at it until it does. A tripod will make it all that much easier. Looking forward to seeing what you create!

Thank you! It's one of the best shoots I've had in a long time. Haha, yes the timing with that shot, crouched down for a while and trying not to fall over while balancing everything. 😂

I can feel your effort. It's similar to when I've taken bees mid flight.

Or blooms on a windy day lol.

Bees mid-flight, LOL, yeah, I'm not too good at things in mid flight. Wind is never the friend of macro. It's one of the things I pay attention to for outdoor macro photos.

Thank you very much @wrestlingdesires! Really glad you like the gifs. It was well worth the effort to make them, fun stuff for me.

Have you considered joining in @melinda010100 Shadow Hunters and / or Reflections?

I belonged for quite a while when I first joined and it was fun. I left that community because I've gone in multiple other directions with what I create. Most of the time, what I create isn't the best fit for that community.

I appreciate what you've said. I'm getting the impression that there seems to be some subtext here.

To clarify, I would like both yourself and @melinda010100 to know that there is nothing personal regarding my choices. No one should allow themselves to be disturbed by choices that I make. It is not a reflection on the person or community. It is simply my personal choice as to what I choose to do, as it always has been throughout my life. Sometimes people aren't happy with the choices I make. Sometimes I'm not happy with the choices others make. This is how life goes.

Oh no, I didn't mean that, I just thought you might have meant that you didn't think them suitable (which in my opinion, any community would be lucky to have them)

I hope you are having a wonderful holiday season 🎄

Oh good! I was concerned that both you and @melinda010100 had an incorrect perception about the situation.

Some of my photos are suitable, but in an overall context, it's a very small percent that would fit in the community.
