The Hive Engagement League ๐Ÿ†

(Edited)

What an exciting week for Hive!

This week I have prizes to give away thanks to sponsorship HIVE from @themarkymark - let's see if engagement is on the up.

If you wish to be added or removed from my master list, please let me know.

The Hive Engagement League

This league is not based around financial rewards and relates to engagement.

Everyone currently on my master list has a chance here - including those powering down or dealing in delegations over the past couple of weeks.

I've used some metrics relating to:

  • Posts (P)
  • Comments - number of (C)
  • Number of people spoken to (PS)
  • Comments - replies to replies - depth > 2 (C R)
  • Comments - length in characters (C L)
  • Witness votes (W) (for those voting via proxy, your total is always 30)
  • Up-votes to others (V)
  • Up-votes to different authors (U V)
  • Self-votes - No minus score but no bonus HIVE(S V)

Note: Copy/Paste comments will be excluded!

Hive Engagement League Table

Images best viewed on Hive.blog

  • 300 accounts earned a score this week (304 last time)
  • The top 100 produced 922 top level posts (1076 last time)
  • The top 100 produced 6854 comments (6049 last time)
  • The top 100 produced over 1.29 million characters of text in comments (1.21 last time)
  • The top 100 cast 27048 votes (22102 last time), of these, 249 were self-votes (298 last time)

Congratulations to this weeks Engagement League winner:

@galenkp! ๐Ÿ†

First place and a long way clear this week, well done again Galen!

@dswigle, a long time sponsor of the EL, asked to rejoin the list a couple of weeks ago and it's really nice to have her back in the top three!

'Part-timer' @nickyhavey takes 3rd with what I think is his highest placing so far. Congrats!

The Curation League - Rewards based

NOTE: If you have started a power-down or have been involved in HP delegations in/out of your account, you will not appear on this list for 15 days following the activities above. Thanks!

How is @nickyhavey above me, I thought we were fiends man! Oh the betrayal I feel like that season where Giroud scored that insane scorpion kick goal agains palace and he didnโ€™t win goal of the season to some basic ass emre can bicycle kick

Calls himself a part-timer and lands in the top 3.....

Giroud is a frustrating player, looks like he should be awesome but has absolute mares way too often!

For real the man is a two timer, basically a Cashely Cole!

Yeah I love Giroud I think his a top player but man can he act like a donkey sometimes! If only his big ass could use his right foot he would be insane

Wow, #11! Highest ever @abh12345. And #4 by CL ... ๐Ÿ™ƒ

Congratulations to all of the winners. Great to see the engagement and effort to add value to our Hive blockchain. ๐Ÿ‘

Thank you for your efforts to put this weekly report together for us!

P.S. To learn the above, required some serious "under the hood" manipulation, since the images aren't showing. Had to bring up the URL in Hiveblocks, capture the image URL and paste it into another browser ... ๐Ÿ˜•

P.P.S. Not "... spotted any glaring mistakes ..." unless you say it is, but noticing the historic prizes for some top engagers with 0 self-votes is no longer the case, you may wish to change your associated color coding on the SV column.

well, I am becoming a bit more active, I do not anticipate being in the top 10 but will be posting and curating a bit more for myself.

With al your data driven research could you check if there is any correlation between account creation and the price popping up so high?
If not then all this action is just speculation but if there is an uptick on powerups and account creation its more natural

Oh, I spoke too soon... it's going down now. I have to wonder. Steem is now going up. Is Sun playing with our heads?

Congratulations to @galenkp for his #1 spot again and @nickyhavey(Woot! Woot!) for your awesome shows!

I will be sending @steevc 5 Hive for landing on lucky #9 this week! Be on the lookout!

On another note, I want to thank @MarkyMark for his sponsorship and I want thank Asher @abh12345 for being the host with the most. And let's keep on engaging and interacting with each other.

Hey, @abh12345.

Well.

About this time a week ago, HIVE was trading around $0.12 USD on its way down to $0.11 USD on April 22.

Today, as I write this, HIVE nearly hits $0.99 Sunday morning for an all-time high and is now on it's way back down to $0.56 USD.

All this after Huobi listed HIVE towards the end of the week.

But now Binance lists HIVE (currently showing $0.46 USD), and the moonshot gets wrecked.

Woohoo! The rollercoaster ride is back and it's on HIVE!

Oh, and the HIVE honeymoon is officially over, too.

You may have noticed, but the natives started getting restless over the weekend.

What I find interesting is, the two or three posts I saw were from folks who a) were a part of making the move to HIVE from STEEM (and two), at least one of them was the same individual telling us stuff takes time, while now, I guess, up in arms that the trending page looks like a dev paradise?

Have you also seen there's a movement to improve engagement on HIVE? A community supposedly devoted to it, though the one question posts are getting stupid amounts of rewards while the actual engagement gets nothing, and a major curation community with an engagement initiative. People asking what needs to happen for folks to spend more time on HIVE (though answers about more rewards would be punished), and so forth.

And while you may be wondering what all of my rambling so far has to do with the Engagement List, it's thisโ€”there is one perfectly good initiative that has been going on for over 2 years now on STEEM/HIVE. It doesn't reward the posts people engage on, and while very generous to offer any prizes at all, it doesn't attempt to incentivize everyone for their efforts through rewards.

No, what it does is gamify the engagement experience through a chart of the top 100 engagers. Throws in some prizes if there's a sponsor, otherwise, everyone pretty much engages for free. Why? Because they want to. They like to do it. They may want to see where they end up on the list each week, but that's about it.

So, do we really need to reinvent the wheel? They all know the engagement list exists. No need to continue to fracture any more the already fracturing community.

Especially when those boohooing the level of engagement on HIVE and now trying to incentivize it with their own initiatives really seem to be among those who don't do a tremendous amount of it themselves. At least not anywhere I go that isn't a HIVE related post, which, it just so happens, they're also among those who regularly, if not incessantly, post HIVE related posts, and receive the higher rewards.

I know you're not really in the position to say any of this, and I know I probably should be the better man and not bring it up at all, and I certainly shouldn't dump it here, but I just feel it needs to be said.

You know what turns people off about this place (previously STEEM). It isn't so much all the HIVE cheerleading posts or the TA analysis or dev posts or whatever else ends up on trending. It's not completely the ongoing lack of reward distribution for whatever quality posts are, or how the reward pool even works.

It's not the lack of engagement, or the lacking of said 'quality posts.'

Yes, all of that together grates on the nerves overtime.

To me, however, it's really more the fact that the same people who are in a position (if not by themselves, collectively), to do something about it are the same people lamenting all the problems while also being a part of them.

I don't know. Maybe it's because I'm just trying to post, upvote the stuff I like, engage when I think I might have something to say, and not trying to look at any one small piece of the entire HIVE puzzle and attempt to tweak it because I guess I've got nothing else better to do.

Not all of us can afford to sit on HIVE all day, everyday. Not all of us really want to see the HIVE we're getting use to become something else all of a sudden because someone had nothing else better to do but sit around worrying about a problem that really doesn't exist, or isn't fixable, until they stop sitting around worrying about it and find something else better to do.

Like use the dang platform the way it was intended to be used and stop trying to self-enrich without doing that.

Am I done yet? I think I'm done.

Sorry.

Onward and upward.

Hi Glen

Well, as usual, I'm not going to disagree with much of what you have written, and understand the frustrations.

I was asked along with a few people to push the latest engagement initiative and at first (after re-hiving the post) I thought I'd politely decline. Then I thought, well if I can add some data and make my post a little different, why not.

They have all been heavily rewarded for sure, and hopefully now that people are aware, those votes will come on the best commentary. And then we have the gamification of engagement, with it's relatively small prize pool, where people take part, because they want to.

I see where you are coming from and I also appreciate the commitment from the larger stake-holders to support those oiling the chain. So I'll just nod and sit on the fence if that's alright with you :)

Onwards, upwards, down a fair bit, and hopefully upwards again at some point.

I got done writing that comment and paused for quite a bit before posting. Did some editing, too, beforehand, so I'm glad to see I'm not banned from this post for life. :)

Well, as I alluded to above, being a community leader tends to make you to some degree a diplomatโ€”you're not necessarily getting along to get along, but in the end, it's probably for the best. In my case, I'm kind of one of HIVE's lesser loose cannonsโ€”and only on occasions where those who are basically in charge start to whine about the fact that things aren't looking any better and trying to find a scapegoat instead of looking at themselves in the mirror first.

I say all this knowing that my own engagement and curation production is way off from where it was at this time two years ago, and even a year ago. I'm trying to improve that with whatever time I have between now and whenever I might to work, but then the production will suffer even more.

I just think if HIVE is your main source of revenue (however that might be), and you've got enough time to go around looking at the problems, you might want to look at some of the solutions already in place, and bolster those. Or follow those. It's great to have diversity of thought, and so forthโ€”made a lot more sense to have more than one initiative back in the day when we had tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of users posting every day, rather than the thousands to lower tens of thousands we're mustering now. Now, we probably should be fostering unity, rather than continuing to come up with stuff on our own.

Okay, I'm rambling again. I guess it's a sore spot with me. It's not like I'm not going to try to participate in the initiative, mainly to bolster engagement (can't see how they're going to follow through with much of a promise to hit posts and comments with upvotes to any significant magnitude, but hey, it's early and I shouldn't be so critical about folks who are coming around to doing the right thing, especially when some of the folks involved have been extremely helpful with their higher SP, if not mainly responsible for the existence of HIVE in the first place).

It just feels like if some folks don't come up with something, it's never been done before.

Sigh. :)

Well we all should be able to accept positive criticism and try to learn from that for the good, and that's how I read your response the first time, and more recently too.

I like the idea of a multiple pronged approach on this, but see where you are coming from on the support of long-standing initiatives - i might be a little biased here.

Curie/c-squared @carlgnash take a bow, had a comment contest running a while back and this current effort reminds me a lot of that.

Anyway, thanks for your comments, always appreciated :)

Well, I'm glad you read them that way. I'm not sure that everyone involved would read them as positive, or even necessary.

As it stands, I think I might have it out of my system for nowโ€”until the next wave of posts that inevitably come.

And in reality, I'm not opposed to these initiatives. I guess I'm just getting a little defensive of the engagement league even though it's not really my position or cause to take. I mean, I guess we all have some vested interest in it, but I in no way should be a spokesman for it, especially a self-appointed one. There are others doing better work than I am in that regard. Especially now. :)

Thanks for caring about the EL, you are part of the reason it's still going, and you don't have to be in the list each week to have earned, or keep earning that accolade.

The post got spotted this week, a large reward (thus far) and a batch of new joiners, I can't ask for anything more than that.

So would you like me to stop working on exchange listings, communication for hive, c-squared and a Helping new project which hopefully will solve many of the issues I was attempting to discuss On a UI level to just sponsor the engagement leagues? As I'm a bit confused by your OP up there and think you missed the point of my post.. I have no issues with Devs on trending, at least they are actually contributing.. what I mentioned was the posts with no engagement being put up there due to auto votes, as well as those not on trending but simply shit posts to get auto votes. What I was asking, was how we can use content to further the platform and reward those that attract engagement.. I don't really have time to sit on Hive all day either.. but hey, here I am, trying to think of ways to solve an issue and improve the place that don't include Asher having to make lists and pay people, as I don't see that scaling too well. Perhaps.. just maybe.. if we had a UI that helped people find the content they liked, and encouraged engagement.. maybe even some tipping on those lovely comments.. we wouldn't need to have all these curation guilds and projects. That's sort of my point. I'm sorry if my post starting a discussion irritated you so much.. I'll surely go back to what I was doing now and not try to rock the boat. Have a wonderful day Glen.. happy commenting. Glad some people will now be blindly voting comments.. that should solve it all ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ

Oh and @abh12345 I'll throw 500 HIVE into whatever pot you have here as I surely want to be part of the solution and not the problem.

And oh hey! Looks like people can actually use that on an exchange when they go to dump it. Wonder how that happened?!? Must be magic.. everything here happens my magic..

I will see that 500 hive, and raise it to 1000 hive.

I do not have that much hive in my wallet and I am doing my evening walk. As soon as I am finished with the walk I will go to bittrex and buy 1000 hive and transfer it to @abh12345. I will post a screenshot at the bottom. I hope @justineh holds up her side of the deal.

If people sell it at the exchanges, no worries. I will buy it back and power up.

No I donโ€™t think some people are blindly voting comments.

Well I know for a fact people are blindly voting comments, just like they blindly vote posts.. thatโ€™s sort of my point here - I want this to be a place people enjoy and that incentivizes the social aspects (both long and short content).. not be a place people come to make a post just to get an auto vote and blindly vote things as they have to use those 10 votes a day or they lose out! It should be fun, it should be a place people actually see use it.. and no I donโ€™t think it should depend on curation guilds (even though I run one) or lists like Ashers. It should all be built in to the UI.. thatโ€™s my opinion.

As far as the rest, Iโ€™m just over the complaining and complete ignorance of how anything gets done around here. And the exchange comment was stating the only reason people can buy or sell that HIVE is due to work done that wasnโ€™t this league .. or sponsoring this league.

If all I had to do was sponsor Ashers league, as nothing else needs to be done .. I guess I could have saved myself a lot of work. We could all just be happily on Steem commenting.. man I wonder if the others know we didnโ€™t have to do all that ๐Ÿค”

As far as the sponsorship.. Iโ€™m an asshole but am a man of my word..

@justineh All I can say, that I am not blindly voting comments, and I am sure that you are not either. Others, we can't control what they do (mostly).

Now, let us take care of money matters first:

Here is my 1000 Hive. @abh12345 can do whatever he wants with it, he doesn't have to ask me.

image.png

In addition. since you expressed concern regarding how potentially people can get this and sell it in the exchanges, which won't be good for Hive. I thought for this little thing I should take care of that too. Your 500 Hive and my 1000 hive makes, 1500 Hive. So I bought additional 1500 Hive and I am powering it up.

Since I never power down until a project goes belly up or get bought (hint, hint), this 1500 Hive will stay powered up forever. Therefore, content creators here, can do whatever they want with this money without hurting hive.

There: for this at least we have taken money out of the equation I hope :)

All transactions are transparent of course, as I do not do any back room deals. Also I do not have any alternate account.

Thank you for your engagement.

Didnt know we were having a pissing match.. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ

Youโ€™ve missed all my points, even though I explained them.. I donโ€™t have a โ€œconcernโ€ people use exchanges.. I was saying stating people need to stop trying to do new things or point out issues (the comment I was responding to) rather just sponsor Ashers league .. is naive and absurd.

Glad we could find the solution to all things though.

Let me make this really clear since you arenโ€™t hearing me -

Ashers league is great, Iโ€™m a fan.. but it actually solves no issues. Itโ€™s a bandaid on a wound gushing blood.

It doesnโ€™t fix anything.

If we donโ€™t stop the bleeding, the issue will continue. Asher canโ€™t solve all the issues of the platform. I mean I like Asher, but his charts canโ€™t do that alone.

Thank you for the sponsorship HIVE, and thank you again for the work behind the scenes which will, and not for the fault of the general populace, never get the appreciation it deserves.

I'm going to use a couple of lame analogies.... raising a child, and managing a submarine.

To me, there is no one solution to nurturing a child, or keeping the people alive on a sub - both require multiple 'bandages' and the connected parties to be doing their bit. There is an on-going, ever changing set of duties, and washing all the dirty clothes, or fixing all the leaks one day isn't going to mean much in the longer term, unless the community of people involved continue doing their bit.

The league has proven to patch a leak and retain some users, it is one of the many small holes patched up, which is the only way you can keep a sub afloat - many patches.

I would love to see this sort of thing built into the UI's, it would definitely scale better longer term.

Thanks again for the sponsorship, I'll continue patching until I'm no longer required.

Glen, I agree with most of what you said. I don't agree with some of it, but that can wait for later.

First, your comment above currently have $10 reward on it, a reward for engagement. But that can be zero by the time of payout, I have no control over it. Also I have actually used the common reward pool to reward you directly, and some may frown at that. Therefore, second;

image.png

I transferred 10 Hive to you to reward you for that long comment, thanking for your time. This is my money, I am transferring to you using no transaction fee and fastest network in the world! What do you say to that, eh? ๐Ÿ˜€

Hey, @azircon.

Wow. That's very kind of you. I'm not sure what to say, especially if there are some things you disagree with me about. I certainly don't expect you to do that.

Who knows. I might disagree with what I've said at some point. :)

Really, more than anything else, was trying to acknowledge the fact, while we can certainly do much better with engagement (and I've said that before, too, plenty of times), it certainly seems like at least some of the folks calling for more engagement now aren't necessarily going that far beyond their own HIVE-centric posts to find it, while people like Asher and this Engagement League have been doing it for over two years. All they have to do, if they want, is follow some of them around. :)

Certainly wasn't expecting the comment to gather much of anything, other than Asher's attention. That's typically what happens when I don't show up until a day later.

It's amazing to me how people can frown on things that others do when they themselves end up doing the same thing, just with stuff they like. Anyway, before I get off into that, I'll just stop.

It is awesome that we have a network that is so fast and that can be used to do such a things. Now, if we just had more businesses on the network accepting HIVE/HBD payments, and people earning it that way, we'd really have something. :)

Hey Glen, I just finished reading this through (the thread) and I agree with most you say and am pleased to see how polite you have been as you've made your points. I'd expect no less from a bloke of your calibre (caliber)

I don't want to get into lengthy discussions here but just wanted to say that I think many simply don't know what some of the larger accounts are doing behind the scenes. They sit up there in their ivory towers looking down on all the plebs (like me) and pretty much lord-over us...

Well nah, not really.

I also often feel a little frustrated that larger accounts don't comment much, certainly not on my blog anyway, but at the end of the day they need to be doing what they do so that I can go ahead and do what I do (create mediocre content) without having to worry about all that really confusing stuff they do.

I trust my brother will inform me of anything he thinks I need to know (you should hear some of our discussions) and I just get on with my own thing...Trusting that people are up there, in said ivory tower, doing the right thing. Doing something to push the platform forward.

I happen to know that @abh12345 is a rockstar on hive and the other thingamy we used to blog on, as is @justineh ...Good hard working people with the platform in mind. I don't know what they do, only that they do a lot of it. And I'm grateful to them, and others like them.

Of course there's also people doing the wrong thing, but let's not go there right now.

It's easy for me to observe them from my lowly position at the bottom, brandishing a pitch fork yelling you bastards...But like any community, certain people have their place; A role as such. I'm sure Justine would like to kick-back and blog and chat about guns or Lego like me, (or goats), but she's doing other stuff. Same with Asher and others I probably don't need to name-drop.

I don't know, maybe I'm missing the point of it all but I reckon (as we discussed elsewhere) that we need to change the culture here and I don't know how to do it any more than anyone else. But we can start by looking inwardly and doing what it is we feel is the right thing, for us the individual, and then throw that pebble into the pond and watch what happens, watch the ripples spread.

I'm thankful to the ivory-tower people way up there...If not for them I may be still on Facebook (thankfully not.) The thing is that they're not really ivory-tower-people...They're just like you and me...We're all the same and all have a part...Even the bad actors...They expose what's wrong here to allow the rest of us to address it.

Anyway, you're a champ and I don't reckon a hive-user here could say a bad word about you...That's admirable. Like us all here, your opinion matters. Thanks for sharing. (And thanks for the two mentioned above and @azircon for allowing you to voice your thoughts and responding so pleasingly.) Well done to all for a hearty, but respectful engagement.

Did the G-dog say engagement? Oh yes he did...Get on it y'all, it's a good thing.

Oh, one last thing...I reckon we should get rid of trending. Like literally just get rid of it. Just saying.

@galenkp, I always enjoyed your 'mediocre' content! They are superlative to me. I don't always get to comment as much I like to, as my reading is usually between things, while making dinner for the kids, helping them with homework, or between meetings at my day job. Therefore, I am not prolific in commenting.

Also for a while I stayed behind, because sometimes the public part of the platform becomes too noisy and attention seeking, and that is not something I enjoy.

I appreciate your detailed comment there and I know for a fact that you always hang around here regardless of what is happening to the price. Development of the social blockchain is supported by developers obviously, however, without people the social blockchain in useless. So 'people' are as important as the architects who are building the blockchain, perhaps more important. Otherwise, we will build beautiful Chinese cities that are unoccupied ๐Ÿ˜‰

Hey mate, thanks for your reply.

I think it's important for people to remember that someone else's experience here is their own and it's not for others to judge how they do it. Bad actors...Sure, they need to be addressed, but if someone (you) can't comment as much because of life then it's not for others to hold them to task over it. You do your part @azircon, not everyone may know it, but it's clear that you do.

Yes, the price rarely bothers me and certainly I've never failed to post here because of it being down...In fact when it's down I see a better opportunity to promote my work (and brand) due to less activity on the chain. Put simply, I like it here and so I stay. Thanks to people like you, Justine, Asher, my brother, Phare, Anomad, Nonames etc. etc. we have a place to express ourselves. (Abbreviated as it's a little try-hard to name drop with their tags.) You know what I mean.

Thank you for the compliment on my work. That means a lot.

Hey, @galenkp.

It's still morning where I'm at (barely), so good morning. :)

I'm not sure if I should commend you for working through the entire thread, or ask you what in the world were you thinking? :) Brownie points to you, how about that?

Actually, I agree. I think the whole discourse here has been rather civil, certainly compared to what can happen here. I don't know if I could consider my initial long and winded burst of exasperation as 'polite', though again, those who appreciate the finer points of raw, reactionary emotion would wonder why I held back. :)

I do need to own my words, and fight my own battles, especially if I'm going to start them. Lie in the bed I've made, sort of thing.

Honestly, I do appreciate you coming in to diffuse, and for your vouching for mine and everyone else's character. For those few folks still around who have been in conversations with me, like you, I guess we know each other as best we can with just the words we type from half a world away.

re: Ivory Towers

I've rewritten this next part a couple of times, about the merits of the Engagement League as I see them, how they actually helped keep me going here when nothing else and no one else would have. I hope Asher knows how I feel about that, so I won't stop to rehash it here. This is already going to be a long reply without it.

I think the point of the matter as you laid it out has more to do with the fact that many of us don't really know what others are doing behind the scenes. I agree. I know I've said as much.

It's true, thoughโ€”I don't know anyone who is behind the scenes, which includes Justine. I know of her, and many others, from their posts and comments, but as you and I have been discussing elsewhere, I'm not hopping on discord to seek folks out about whatever that might be on a regular basis. I'm here, on HIVE, doing what I've been trying to consistently do since the beginning with STEEMโ€”post, comment, curate, repeat. I do that, just like anyone else, because it's the role I've chosen for myself, and the one I get the most satisfaction out of.

Will I opine on a occasion. Yes. Will I get it wrong? Yes. I try to be as informed as I can be here without deviating too far from what my purpose here is, so I'm bound to miss something, and all of it, if it's happening primarily on discord.

However, since I end up doing a lot of reading on chain because of my self-appointed role, I'm well aware that there is a huge amount of work going on behind the scenes, under the hood, etc., that isn't recorded on the blockchain. I know someone has to do that. I don't think things just happen on their own. I think people should be compensated for it all, and I'm glad we're at least trying to do that with the DAO, rather than through delegations or whatever the heck it was before.

I don't think of them sitting in ivory towers, either. I, like you, think of them as equals, yet another needful piece of the entire puzzle. I hope they see you and me, the user, the same way. Needful. Valuable. Integral. Sometimes, too many times, it doesn't seem that way. From just this thread, that feeling seems to be mutual.

re: the point

For the record, since you've posited it regarding ivory towers and the unseen work that most of us seem oblivious to, and for what it's ultimately worth telling you it instead of directly to her, my comment referring to Justine was limited only to the fact that in one post she was advocating patience with all things, while in the very next one, she was, it seemed to me, saying some things need to be fixed now. So, which is it? Are we being patient, or are we back to life or death mode for the platform?

That bit, though, was the least of it, and on its own, wouldn't have caused me my exasperation. For all intents and purposes, I should have left it out, especially since I wasn't naming names and was trying to speak in generalities. Again, for what it's worth, I am sorry for even bringing it up.

The bit about a 'dev paradise' on trending was from me extrapolating out what she might be expressing concern about because a flurry of dev posts was what I saw on trending the last time I looked at it.

re: trending

I don't look at trending very much. I tend to wind up there when someone talks about it, or when I've exhausted every other option for content. Occasionally, I find things that I feel are valuable.

Maybe it is an oversimplification to just get rid of trending and replace it with something else, but I agree, I don't think it would be all that hard to do. If we're talking about it being a point of content discovery, or putting our best face forward, I don't think it's ever regularly accomplished that because of, frankly, human nature, not UI.

Can human nature be curbed by UI fixes? It's been tried, from what I can tell, on all levels of the chain. Something gets changed and then someone with the knowhow comes up with a workaround. What do we do about that, because some people just seem to take it on as a challenge to game the system, which puts us all back to nearly where we started.

re: mediocre

This is a whole other topic in and of itself, but on a personal note, I don't consider your content to be mediocre. I don't know if you're saying that to be modest, or if you feel you're not as accomplished as others, or if it's just self-deprecation, but your posts, those of Asher's, Justine's, or anyone else who's putting passion or effort into a post, are far from mediocre.

And, I think plenty of people agree with that assessment.

Maybe I don't need to say that. Maybe I don't need to be so direct. I hope I'm not offending. Certainly not where I'm going with that.

Yours have been among some of the best laid out posts, even if they're not always trying to convey some lofty ideal or prove a point, that I see here. Your stories, both fact or fiction, humanize the chain. You hit a range of topics, which I personally appreciate because I can't stay in one lane for long either.

Am I always interested in every post that you or everyone else writes? How could I be? How would I even have time to read all of that? I don't even expect everyone to love my own posts. I mean, there are times where I'm not that happy with how they turned out either.

But if any of that is the definition of mediocre, I say, bring it on. One more thing HIVE needs more of. :)

There's so many challenges Glen, so many. Collect together a group of humans and set them towards a common goal and that tends to always be the way. History is very clear about that.

Great things can be achieved though, again history shows this, however it is often a circuitous and bumpy road; Even then it is not certain to lead to success. I think the same will happen here, is happening in fact. We just need to ride it out, to try and fail, then try again.

Not to get all warm and fuzzy on you but I believe that things will work out for the best, certainly one way or the other and we need each of us to play our part, large or small.

Mine...It's small, a content creator. Justine's? Asher's? Anyone else who holds themselves out there working towards the betterment of the chain...Maybe larger. It can't be easy writing something, putting it out there for consultation and criticism by a collection of humans, all with their own agenda's and worse, people who simply want to incite drama for their own amusement. I think that takes courage and ownership. (And I applaud courage and ownership.)

The way I deal with it is just to keep my head down and focused on what I do. I have found I get the best enjoyment that way. In the real world I'm a leader...I mean in personality type...Not a follower. I'm the guy who holds myself out there, leads by example and from the front...It's my nature and I think sometimes that can be misconstrued and even work to my detriment...Maybe the same happens here with @justineh and other like her who are strong personalities, lead from the front and have a get it done attitude.

Now, my mediocre work. I don't say this to self-depreciate or be modest...I mean it. My work is not great, it's ok, and so, mediocre. I never finished high-school Glen and never went to university. I self-educated by reading and living life. It was a hard life but it worked for me. I don't try to pass myself off as intellectual here, or in my real life, I'm what I write, and what people see. Personality, Passion and effort is what I reward when I curate, and that's what I try and bring to my own work.

I write here for me and yeah, I know not everyone will like what I write, or relate to it, but that's ok. I mean in the last few days I've written about Lego, guns, fiction on a couple's miscarriage, war history, my wife and relationship...I guess it makes it difficult for people to say what they like about my work...It's so varied...And yet, isn't that life in a nutshell?

I don't know mate, I rarely get so involved with hive-topics like this and don't want to perpetuate it.

I try to be the best version of me, present that outwardly, in real life and on here, and just enjoy what time is allotted me. I'm not always the good guy and have done some very bad things in my day...But that doesn't define me. I've done good too, but that doesn't define me...I am just me, like all of us and if there was less judgement in the world I think we would see each other more clearly and value each other more.

Ok, I'm now rambling.

I have to go to work this morning, for a meeting...Yep, I gotta change out of my track pants for once! (Been working from home)...I hope this makes sense, this message.

You're a good guy Glen, like most here, and we're glad to have you. You and people like you are an asset, as are the people I mention above and the others like them.

P.s. Get rid of trending and replace it with nothing. We're all the same here...No need to single people out.

This looks fun! I'm new to the platform and still trying to find my way here. I will keep an eye on this, because I haven't been engaging that much until now but more trying to find good reads to fill up my feed with nice authors a bit. Maybe I will sign up when I'm more familiar with Hive :)

I think that's a fair approach to take. If you get that list together you are more likely to naturally engage in your areas of interest, and it wont seem like such a chore. Good luck!

Gosh that's a whole lot of engagement your post attracted, interesting hearing all the views, saw a number of my friends here.
Hive's really been a lifesaver for me during our strict lockdown!
I'd love to be added to your list, thank you.

Yes, having a place to interact during lockdown has been great - we should be promoting this on Twitter I think :)

Great, I will add you to the list, Welcome!

@galenkp congratulations ๐Ÿฅณ
To the rest too. Great you manage to engage. It's harder for me. Hardly internet connection and the apps do not load. Happy weekend to all of you.

Thank you @wakeupkitty :)

Just in case you weren't aware, the numbers are counted on Hive and not Steem.

Have a nice Sunday :)
