First Fall Colors

The first of the fall colors has been creeping in. We took a walk around looking for some of the first bright leaves to fall.

These first maple leaves still have some of their green color left as central veins making a nice bold pattern.

Just a few patches of orange and red are showing high up in the red maples.

Finally I found a solid red one, probably from a different species of maple.

Back to the larger bold patterned maple leaves. I'll probably try and save these bold patterned ones by pressing them after soaking them in glycerine.

The glycerine helps preserve the color, if you just press them in a book they will often turn brown after a while.

I tend to soak them for about half a day in a water glycerine solution before drying them and pressing them in old books for about a month. After that they are nice and flat and ready to glue down for art projects.

Even a few of the poplar leaves are starting to turn. I managed to catch my wife taking pictures on her phone, gotta love picture within a picture.

Finally the sun started setting and quite a bit of the same red from the leaves ended up in the clouds.

The last bits of light almost look like oil paint streaks on a canvas. This one would probably be pretty easy to whip up as a painting, just underpaint with a blueish gray and highlight with some red and white mixtures.

That's all for now, thanks for looking :-)

How wonderful! I loved the whole explosion of colors. Fall is a time when the trees are stripped bare, but fill the streets with noise and color. I remember when I was a college student, I would save the leaves I found most interesting, in shape and size, in the pages of books. Who has not kept a leaf or a flower between the pages of a book? Thank you for bringing back that memory.

I may have enough flattened leaves to make an entire wall collage of them lol.

Nothing but oranges and reds everywhere soon. I hope everything turns at the same time this year.

I'm afraid its been too dry in Vermont at the end of summer this year for a good color show 🙁

Reds and ambers, oranges and yellows - autumn colors are my favorite. Pumpkin pie!

Those ones with the veins are stunning! So far not much foliage here in Western Mass and when it does turn, it won't be much to speak of, due to the drought.

We've been stealing all your rain over here. Our indian summer was pretty mild this year too maybe that's why the leaves are still green in the veins.

A cool selection of leaves!
I haven't seen the red maple leaves yet this year. I only see yellow ones. Strange.

A very beautiful sunset. Did you still use a photo editor a little? 😂

(Edited)

Amazingly I only used the photo editor sparingly on that one, my zoom lens fully zoomed in on the sun picks up the colors pretty well. Here's the unedited sun one.

Yes… been searching them too here in New England. Found a few… not many but there are some areas with red trees 🥰
Enjoy this wonderful time 👋🏻😊
