Week 191 -An obsession taken by chance

Wishing Hiveans a Happy week ahead. And thanking @galenkp for the topic, where I do have something to share upon, something that took me to the past and the present.

Its in human instinct, that once in lifetime, we do get obsessed over something or someone. And if you don't, then there is some problem with you.

Let me take you to my past. Most of us choose a job by "chance" rather than by "choice". To be honest, I was one among them. Work an get paid was my motto. Once I completed my Degree in Library Science, I opted for the job as a librarian in a school, away from my country, because that is where my husband was residing.

When we do not love our job, the problems erupt. I was placed as a school librarian in one of the most reputed school. It was a job where you need to have a lot patience to control and co-ordinate with students, particularly, about their preference for books and that is where I lacked. Each time they approached me, I turned them away. This resulted in children going away from me.

They are kept under lock and key

Though initially, my motive was to earn a decent income, the preference slowly gave way to the importance of students hunting for books in the library shelves. Something striked me, for what was, I being paid for, on the first of every month. Was it for just sitting in the concerned post?

Slowly I got connected with children about the taste of their books, to be available in the library. The Management was too cooperative to let me purchase books of their choice. And all this, I enjoyed doing it myself - to go to the book store, to select and to purchase. This made me even close to the students, simultaneously, resulting in my obsession towards my profession.

Arrival of new books meant more students to the library. And when I became student friendly, the students came in with lot of stories about the book they read - as to How it had strengthened or weakened them, How prince charming met his lady love, How the conclusion could be changed if its a sad tale, How they wished to be one among them etc..
And the fact was I enjoyed hearing their stories.

Infact, I became too obsessed with my profession, that I did not like an empty library ie., during the vacation for students, for a period of one month.

When the time came for me to return, to my native country, after 12 long years of tenure, for the first time I felt a pain within me. Shortly, I will be missing my students and giving up my profession, the one that I was much obsessed with and one that gave me respect.

Even today I regret for giving up my job and my students, I once loved. Once a while, I receive a call or a whatsapp message to attend their marriage function. Or sometimes, its just a "Hi".

What I learnt:
No matter, in which profession you are just love your job and keep moving, the rest will come to you for sure.

My present obsession is my parents visualization of life - if you can take care of yourself, never depend on others. The best lesson I learnt from them and following until now. Almighty bless them. The way they live in their 80's despite several health issues, without depending on others, is definitely a matter to appreciate.

These are Basil leaves

Turmeric plants from the garden. You need to nurture these plants. In the final yield we powder them, which can be kept in a closed container for months.

Hardwork amounted to immense grwth in ginger.

Both of them are equally interested in gardening. When my mother takes care of flowering plants, especially roses and jasmine, my father extends his interest in growing ginger, turmeric, cinnamon, black pepper, banana and few other spices, which keeps both of them moving forward.
