Sunny

This is just a short post adding another story to the collection of entries you can find on the Ecency Name a Whale post. I changed some of the prompt text below which is completely optional but the way I see it starting is half the battle so best I copy the start.

<sub>We are Sailin' fast towards our destination - but we are headin' for a hidden sand bar! Unbeknownst to any pirate, this sand bar was newly created in the last storm of the area, and if we hit it - we'd be marooned there for days!

Lo and behold - a massive whale starts headin' our way...

"Capt'n! Whale off the port bow! She's headin' straight for us!!!"

Right before she hits the ship - she crests the water - almost takin' flight over the ship! She creates a MASSIVE SPLASH and wave that begins to push our ship out of the way of the sand bar.

"Blow me down!!! She's trying to steer us off course! All hands on deck!!!" I spin the wheel back on course and try to put us towards our treasure destination - heading BACK towards the sand bar.</sub>

"These bloody people, heading right back to the sand bar." Sunny the Whale thinks as he manoeuvres around the ship again. instead of trying to steer them with water, he decides to steer them the old-fashioned way. With force.

Coming up under the ship and matching its speed Sunny rises up under the ship and feels the keel touch his back then rises just a bit more and turns. The ship being raised out of the water is at risk of capsizing but Sunny has some experience with these wooden coffins and knows how much gives him control but keeps the ship safely pointing to the sky.

The last thing he wants is another hunt for the ship-killing whale. The last one was quite the fiasco. Even though he asked the seagulls to point out that literally, no one died, they were of little use mostly just gulling around gobbling free food up as the other ships in the fleet started hunting him.

The "Blue Terror" they called him. Not very creative he thought. Nevertheless, their weapons were of the kind that a whale doth not stick around and explain the value of a name.

So Sunny went away, far away.

Safely past the sand bar, Sunny dives down gently letting the sails of the ship and steering take over. The Captain of the ship can be heard yelling instructions to the crew as Sunny comes back up to swim next to the ship a safe distance away. Safe enough that no normal harpoon would reach him if say someone was so inclined.

As the ruckus on the ship comes to a rest and everyone is back to doing what they do. The ship's Captain looks to her right and sees the whale still trailing them. Sunny notices her and swims up closer, with a simple nod she thanks him for the aid.

Diving deep, and deeper yet into the abyss which is the ocean Sunny wonders about the nod. He also wonders how it is that he wonders, then he wonders how it is that he knew to help them.

Even the people from so long ago, how did he know to help them from hitting that reef and having their hull ripped out?

Diving even deeper, to where even his lungs feel they could be crushed. Sunny turns back towards the surface and speeds up for every bit of pressure reduced.

Breaking the surface, he rises up, in the distance the Captain watches as the whale momentarily blocks the sun, rays of light streaming past, his skin seemingly radiant.

Sunny always did this after helping no matter how small. In his journey to find out what makes him so different from all the other animals, he has met. He has found one thing for certain his name is Sunny and this is his way of showing others that.

The Captain never found her treasure, and Sunny is still finding his story but along the way, the Blue Terror has become the Sunlight Whale.

Not very creative Sunny thought but at least it involves less pointy things.
