3 Paces inside The Door

DEAD STOP

Page break.png

She stopped dead in her tracks the moment her eyes landed on him. She almost grew roots to the spot seeing the glow all around him that was its own light source. He didn’t see her. She had seconds to decide……go forward, or turn and walk out the door. Direct eye contact would render reverse impossible.

Who was this creature? she thought, sharply sucking in a breath….”He’s here!”. She did not recognize the form he wore, but she recognized something. Approaching the old hardwood tableau, she locked eyes with him. His image burned into her mind. His eyes seared her soul.

MERGE

She made her request. He listened intently, and then paused slightly. Fear and an odd sense of awe encapsulated her tightly while she waited. Finally, he addressed what she’d inquired about and offered suggestions. She selected her choice and left, transaction complete. Swaying slightly with dizziness, she continued on her way, reeling as if she’d just stepped in and out of another world and couldn’t quite get her balance.

Several years roll past in a foggy haze. Her life is tied up in too many knots and it takes time to unravel them all. Out of the clearing mists, like a dragon arising from slumber, he breathes fire into her life. She knew she’d see him again. She never forgot him.

Page break.png

HAZE DROPS

Page break.png

He wrapped her in his cruel talons and swept her away, far away to a mystical world she’d never seen before. Enormous wings beat the air and she felt herself spinning out of time. He was all she knew. She was all he knew. They became one again, as they had in other lifelines. Nothing was more natural.

While he kept her in his company, he taught her and trained her in many secret ways. Sometimes, the lessons were excruciating and broke her open again and again. He waited patiently for her to heal and begin anew. Forge tempering her with trials by fire, unconditional loving acceptance, and a clear guiding light as fit each moment. He became whatever she needed, without her awareness, so that she could learn and grow. He had promised her this in their last life time together. It was an agreement made in order to balance his betrayals.

Page break.png

CAMPHOR

Page break.png

Gradually, she grew and stepped out further with more confidence in her footfalls. She lost all interest in the world and went deep within seeking. Walking blind, feeling her way, not knowing how to step in complete darkness. He waited and watched.

After fumbling for months, she walked to the edge of a precipice she wasn’t even aware was there. He stood back while she crept closer to the edge. For a long time she stood there, on pause, warring with herself.

Could she? What would happen? What was left to hold on to? Nothing left to hold on to. What was holding her back? Fear. Inability to let go of the last thing she wanted to have control over. She had to have some sense of control in life. She resisted. Time stood still. Still she resisted. No movement and she stood in absolute darkness. “Where is the path?” she thought.

Page break.png

EDGE

05_EDGE.JPG

Page break.png

Stepping up to the edge, she made the choice to let it all go. She stepped off the edge. As she was falling, an intense light lit up the darkness as she was caught in the loving warmth of arms she’d never experienced before. Straight up out of the chasm of the dark void she shot and flew on light.

Page break.png

GLOW

06_GLOW.JPG

Page break.png

Walking in the door, she said, “Where have you been all this time?”

I’ve been right here waiting for you to see me.

“I have searched everywhere for you. I’ve been so lost and hungry for you,” she said.

You were looking outside of you in all the wrong places to feast. You’re home now. Come into my embrace. We will be together for infinity.

She relaxed into the loving embrace of her Before All Else and rested peacefully, her long journey completed.

Translating (my meaning of) "Uh huh" is neither. It means something akin to that being interesting plus food for thought plus consideration of whatever it is. I never say it meaning derision or agreement.

So serious in your notation. I thought about it and see how that comes across as either derision or agreement. Sends points to G-dog, maybe a chuckle too?

Cliff jumping into the void is the way to fly 😉

This is a really pleasing piece nineclaws, a nice fiction that reads well, feels comfortable. I like the stepping up to the edge then off it part; that's something so many are unable to do for whatever reason but often it's over that edge where things begin to open up.

Thanks for getting involved.

Thank you. I suck at fiction. Nothing else be said. Yes, I'm going to critique myself first. Fiction writing is a work in progress, so I'll keep chiseling away at it. I'm studying yours to learn.

Cliff jumping is how I roll 😉

Thanks for getting involved.

You're welcome. I'm happy to be involved.

Oh yeah, you write so terribly. [Australian sarcasm]

Shaddap! You write well. 😁

Also, I've jumped off some cliffs also. A few times. Always seemed to live although there was this one time I went splat at the bottom and died. All good, I just got up, dusted myself off and got on with it.

Shaddap! You write well. 😁

My standards for myself are out of this world. There's a good solid reason for that too. For others, it's balanced, as they should be.
Writing I do very well at: critical analysis, business writing, contracts, procedural manuals, legal documents, formal communications. The rest is a work in progress.

Also, I've jumped off some cliffs also.

I would expect you have done so. The question is though, will you jump of "the cliff"?

The question is though, will you jump of "the cliff"?

Depends of circumstances and what or who is at the bottom and how badly I'm needed there.

You don't go to any bottom, never even see it, when jumping off this one. Instead, you fly.

Not that kind of flying, no airplane needed. Broaden those horizons and spread your wings beyond what your eyes can actually see. 😉

I don't know, but I did once, around Modena, Italy. It was a good experience, but I'd never own one.

Sounds like the ideal place to take one out for a run. Can't say I'd want such a thing either. I prefer useful over flashy.

You'd need the whole kit and caboodle to go with the car, so that gets very pricey indeed.

I'd rather use that money for holidays and living life; I have no need for a car like that to do that.

Very true. What places are on your holiday list? Italy for one I'd bet.

Well, I've been to Italy several times but I love it so yes, Italy for sure. Same with France; no matter how many times I go I want to go again.

I'd like to go to Croatia, Greece, Cypress, Germany, Austria again, Poland, Russia, South Africa, selected parts of America, Canadamadia, Scandinavia (only been to Finland)...Was due for some travelling there last year but C19 fucked it up. I'll go to New Zealand again (lovely place) and will travel Australia some more. There's a few. It's probably easier to say everywhere. SO many places, so little time and money. I'm resourceful though.

Well, that's quite a list. Definitely to easier to say "everywhere" as you've said. I'm sure you're quite resourceful.

I have one place only on my list. I'll see how things play out and if I make it there.

I hope you make it, wherever it is. To be honest I'd be happy for a cabin in the woods to by my destination. I've travelled a lot and whilst I'd like to do more, a cabin in the woods seems like a good final destination.

If I do, I do. If I don't I don't. It's a matter of where my inner guide leads me to go, so not really up to me.

Have you done the cabin in the woods before?

Yeah, I have, for a reasonable time too. Self contained. Was pretty sweet. Not long enough. Forest, creek, lake, porch, rocking chair pointing west...No one for about 50 kilometres.

Googlematise it.

Are you suggesting I don't know what an eagle looks like? Btw, I don't use that thingword you named there as a search engine, nor is that thingword in my vocabulary, so I don't even recognize it, nor thought process it as anything other than go look it up. I'm more techie than that thingword you stated there.

Very cool lizard, btw. I quite like that despite never having been a big fan of reptiles, but at times they can be amenable, interesting, even fun, upon self-reflection.

Wellll....he's a kind of winged creature but you can't really see his true form. You have to be able to look through the dimensions to catch a glimpse of it. 😉

he taught her and trained her in many secret ways. Sometimes, the lessons were excruciating and broke her open again and again. He waited patiently for her to heal and begin anew.

After reading the ending about the person embracing their own strength and being their own guide, the above sentence I highlighted made more sense. The guy impacted her and she learned several lessons from him to take on in her own life. Ultimately, she lets go of fear and rekindles with herself.

I am wondering if the fear is the fear of losing the guy or did I misunderstand it and it is something else? Currently, I have two interpretations in mind but I will let you clarify.

0

avatar

You are correct in your first paragraph. Hit the nail on the head!

The fear is about fear of letting go of the one thing she clung desperately to as means of keeping control over her life path. Losing the guy is always inevitable since all relationships are temporary, even if they last until one's dying breath, they still end. In the story, he facilitated her going home to what she'd been searching for her entire life without realizing what it was.

hehehhehe so my second interpretation was correct. This was a very beautifully written post btw. The images fall into place too. I see the drops image and I meet again LOL. Also, I feel like I can smell the first image from here. I used to have a very similar looking drawer 🤣 (or a cupboard maybe??)

The beginning reminded me of a story by Lester del Rey. I can't pinpoint the name right now, but it's about man capturing God in a faraway future. The way all the interaction is set up took me to that reference.

Well that's interesting. I'm not familiar with Lester del Rey at all.

This is one of those weird experiences that kind of fits more with your mother's outlook I think. Unless you want to dive into the void 😉

Ha, ha, ha, ha. My mind isn't closed for understanding stuff I don't believe. I do plenty of delving into myth and religion to understand plenty of the human experience. It is a nice story.

0

avatar

Closed mindedness isn't something I'd associate with you at all. I do like to tease you quite a bit because you're pretty cool about that. I'd say you know more about myths than I do. Religion is something I've dug into a lot, in terms of studying it, so I can play tennis on that field. Myths, I'm lacking the tennis balls and techniques for.

Thank you, I have a very different opinion of what I've written. So much work to do with regard to fiction. It's far easier for me to write academic papers, critical analysis, or business writing. Fiction is so radically different. Transition takes time I think.

0
0
0.000
avatar

Does it mean you don't like what you wrote? Because that's part of the transition to write fiction. Everything needs a lot of editing and improvement all of the time. I'd rather write an academic paper. Had to do a lot of those and I like researching.

About myths, the important thing to know about them is that they are the first attempts to explain phenomena in human times. Some of them are stories about the beginnings or why something happens or is the way it is. It's a fascinating experience.

There's a YouTube Channel called Crash Course that does an interesting take on how to introduce people to the whole myth thing. It's an amazing work and it gives you some references to start digging more.

0

avatar

I don't dislike or like it. I feel completely neutral about what I wrote. There are reasons for that concerning this particular piece of writing. I don't typically have such a detached final viewpoint of what I create, lol.

I'm more comfortable with writing what is familiar to me. That is exactly why I need to push beyond those limits.

My perspective on myths has been fundamentally altered in the last several years. I would need to study them from that perspective. As you've said, "They are the first attempts to explain phenomena in human times"; so that would be why. I'm also having the same experience where art history is concerned, even though I've studied it, I need to look at it again from this new perspective.

I'm a little bit familiar with myths, just never spent the time studying them. I think I'd prefer to study them without being led to see them a particular way. I don't even have the time to do this or other reading that I meant to look at, so it's all a moot point at present, sadly.
