(Edited)

I was wondering when I saw the topic for discussion in this third edition which allows me to make varied choice of what to write and snap of any picture. I was contemplating on what to write then suddenly I went out to fetch from the borehole inside my compound. I initially want to snap either guava or orange but the decision changed when I saw a greenish growing bitter growing very close to where I needed to fetch water from. Looking at it several times, I decided to snap it and talk about it.

There are lots of things I know about bitter sincerely I had more revelations and my eyes got opened after research. Many times we look down on what plays significant role in human both medicinal and otherwise. By the end of this post, many will appreciate it better at the end. Kudos to all the management for such a privilege to share. To all the participants I celebrate everyone

Bitter leaf is a vegetable that is eaten and commonly used within africa and Asia. It has lots of benefits in both traditional and present medicine. I'm an inorganic chemist though I have carried out some research on some leaves. I did a phytochemical screening and bioassay of a leaf which later found to be very effective for typhoid, syphilis etc. To achieve this I dried the leaves of an avocado plant under the room temperature there after extracted it using different kind of solvent. In the nutshell it was used to test for some microbes. Also similar process has been carried out by other scientists and inference was deduced concerning bitter leaf.

Over the years bitter leaf has been playing a key role in traditional medicine. It's generally believed to have a bitter taste which necessitated its name. The components responsible for the bitter taste is called sesquiterpene lactones. Some people hardly chew it because of its bitter nature however its role in human beings can't be overemphasized. When it's extracted, it contains chemical compounds like flavonoids, terpenes and phenolic acids which does a lot to human medicine in the area of fever treatment, respiratory infection, liver disorders whereas others even eat it as vegetables etc.

My wife uses this leaf leaf virtually every week to prepare soup like egusi, vegetables soup, and even a soup called bitter leaf soup. Practically, we have used this leaf and could testify of its positive effect in curing certain illnesses from our kids. Few months ago our son keeps coughing almost uncontrollably especially at night. My wife quickly went out and fetch a fresh portion of bitter leaf and washed it then administered to our son. After few minutes the cough ceased. Aside that she has ever used it when one of us was purging. After a while, it stopped. Those were some of the health benefits deduced from my wife. I will also share generally some neglected benefits of bitter leaf.

I chose to share on bitter leaf because it has gotten relevance in boosting the immune system of human beings. Bitter leaf also helps in weight loss. It can be used to treat malaria, typhoid. It regulates also sugar level and improves digestion. Incase you have an injury kindly apply bitter leaf as it heals it on time. It can be used to treat sore throat, catarrh and boosts infertility. It can also be source of money because it can be sold in the market. Don't mind the bitter taste but consider the health benefits and start using it today.

This is my response to week 102 edition 3 engagement of hive learners. Thanks for visiting and reading through.

Wow, I didn't know bitter leaf can be used to cure cough, very interesting. The one thing I used it for when I was younger was to stop bleeding whenever I got injured, which I did by squeezing out the bitter leaf juice onto the injury
