Hello Everyone,

Thank you to all the well-wishers last week. You'll be pleased to know that I got over my cold. I've also learned how to make steamed sponge pudding in the microwave. This is excellent as Mr P often asks me if I have something sweet to eat after dinner (with custard, naturally).

Here's my recipe:
25g butter or oil; 1 medium egg; 10ml maple syrup (or other sweetener); 50g flour (or 25g flour and 25g ground almonds); flavourings of your choice. I threw in 15g-20g chocolate spread. Mix everything together, share between two teacups and microwave on 800 for one and a half minutes. Turn out onto a plate, cover with custard or cream, or serve with ice-cream. Perfect!

In other news, I couldn't resist powering up to 72,000 HP today - I was only 30 Hive away from it. That was my goal for the end of the year, already increased from 65,000 HP. Yay! 😁

How's your week been Savers? 😍

Remember the CubLife (CL) token if you are looking for a regular contribution to your savings while you are waiting for the next EDS distribution token! Here's the latest CL weekly post.

There was interesting news in last week's post, too:

"One thing I wanted to point out was I noticed that the price of CL tokens has reached almost 5 LEO each. You can see this in the earnings table marked in orange. CUBlife launched with a price of roughly 1.20 LEO per token so token holders have seen a 4x ROI in around 18 months while receiving weekly LEO payments equal to over 35% for the first year and closer to 25% this year so far on average. There are not many tokens on HE that can produce such yields and even fewer within the LeoFinance ecosystem as I consider CUBlife to be a LeoFinance project. Dare I say it? CUBlife has outperformed LBI on almost all fronts by miles and is now worth around 25% of the value of LBI. Growth is easier with small money so I'd put this down as the main reason for its performance along with asset selection."

EDS Mini Miner (EDSMM) - SOLD OUT ... I mean, REALLY SOLD OUT.

There are still 350 EDSMMs for sale at .001 HIVE above the original price (so 1.001 HIVE)
All gone, bye bye. Well done all those savers that snapped up some extras.

There will be a new distribution token for EDS in a few months time, so you may want to start stacking small amounts of HIVE savings in preparation for that.

Saturday Savers Club is going to be giving away EDSMMs from now until the end of the year. These are sponsored by @shanibeer. Each For your chance to win, take part in each of the contests as they come up in the Saturday Savers Post.

EDSMM Contests

Last week, the challenge was about HSBI shares. What a great response! We had comments from sixteen people and everyone who took part gets an HSBI share: @successchar, @stdd, @coquicoin, @yeckingo1, @vaynard86, @servelle, @jfang003, @noctury, @tokutaro22, @ericburgoyne, @bearmol, @alonicus, @phoenixwren, @tydynrain, @tengolotodo and @hoosie. The memo has been sent so look out for a new HSBI share in your wallets.

For new holders of HSBI, you'll find them under the "OTHERS" tab in your wallet.

Lots of interesting info in the comments on last week's post. We had sixteen participants and we have a winner: @stdd - yay! check your wallet ... tomorrow! (I forgot to unstake in time for today's post - sorry)!

Remember this idea, to upvote each other's savings posts (I would add to make sure you upvote the Saturday Savers Club post, too) and leave a little comment, that's always motivating!

THIS WEEK'S CONTEST

This week, the challenge is about investing in stocks and shares. New member @the13anarchist wrote this interesting post about their journey.

For a chance to win an EDSMM and an HSBI tell us your thoughts about investing in stocks and shares. Is it part of your regular savings plan? Would you like it to be? What would be your concerns?

The small print: What do you think about a savings quiz for the end of the year? Prizes, of course 😉

Ground Rules:

  • The SPI family motto is Get Rich Slowly. This covers EDS, EDSM and EDSMM, the home tokens for the Saturday Savers Club, as well as SPI, LBI and CL. The bottom line is that we are looking for well-researched options which bring a steady income. Good options will have an identifiable and easily accessible team (with emphasis on more than one person involved), a clear plan and use case for the token, and transparency and accountability through regular reporting.
  • Individual members are free (of course they are) to publish guides to tokens under their own account - and any number of members can do that.

Thank you for your welcome 😎
About #stocks, I have invested in mutual funds, and I am in the process of exiting by converting those that are in profits into money market funds. Then an exit in fiat when the conditions are favorable to pay the least taxes possible.
As for the #shares, a large part of my assets is invested in real estate mutual funds which bring me an income every month and increase in value, and a small part in a forestry group which is much less profitable.
And I don't own any bonds.

Hello @eddie-earner @shanibeer

Happy to know that you have recovered nicely and thanks for sharing your recipe.Sorry you didn't have a picture to go with it.

Congratulations on blowing away your HP target too72000HP is unimaginable to many.

This week I'm at 1424HP with 76HP to reach out adjusted 1500HP target which will be 50% less than last year.

I've been making 3 posts each week but apart from the coffee cup community the support has been really low.

Sorry you didn't have a picture to go with it.

😁 - They didn't last long enough for a picture - two minutes to make and thirty seconds to eat! I'll try and get some pictures another time. I'm not as good as you at pictures, although my foster daughter's boyfriend has recommended a new (expensive) phone for me, so maybe I will improve.

72K was pretty unimaginable to me, too, there were long periods when I was only making a few pennies on posts, they seemed interminable. I found the best route was to be involved in things I enjoyed doing and while always having a goal, not to make that the be all and end all.

You're making steady progress towards your goals. I'm wondering if it's worth scouting out a few more communities where there's good engagement and good rewards? I think there's a Parents or Families one now. Market Friday is a nice one, too. Milly (the Coffee Cup admin) also has The Minimalist with a weekly prompt.

You might want to try having a little contest or HSBI giveaway? Something low key to start in a community where you already have some engagement? Or maybe try a related one in Market Friday? What do you think?

Excellent suggestions @shanibeer

I will work on exploring other groups but real life may not afford me the time that is required.

Saturday Savers club is a good one for me as well. ReggaeJahms also provides consistent JAHMs for posts.

I'll look out for the picture of the next two minutes to make thirty seconds to eat creation. Lol 😂

Many thanks for the HSBI - its really appreciated !!! And congrats on hitting 72k - thats bloomin awesome !

I had a good week with nice curation rewards. I'm at 2333 HP now, so the annual target of 2500 is well within grasp. I've also changed my focus to just Hive and Hive income methods, so its all change on my weekly report format - you can checked out this weeks here:
https://leofinance.io/@hoosie/saturday-savers-club-progress-week-34-12-11-22-a-change-of-plan-to-focus-just-on-hive

In terms of this weeks challenge I do invest in stocks and shares. I invest in Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) and funds (via Fidelity), but I do not invest in individual stocks/shares. I much prefer ETFs/funds that hold a basket of shares that are either index trackers or managed, I find that this presents much less risk than individual shares. I tend to focus on US, UK and European tech funds and index trackers. Everything has taken a tumble this year, but I'm just hodling, and reinvesting dividends. And when I can I'm pumping more cash into the funds because now is great time to buy with the market so low (although we've not had much spare cash this year to do that). I absolutely see them as long term investments, and am not in it for short term gains or regular trading/day trading.

Many thanks @hoosie

I've been looking into ETF's but I'm unsure where to start! I only plan on day trading Forex, but I personally believe that stocks/ETF's are a long term investment opportunity as well! You definitely have a good system in place of reinvesting your dividends! Is this for retirement or to pass on to children someday?

I'm focusing on retirement with ours. If I get enough time through the week, I might write a post about some of the funds I use, etc. I quite enjoy that side of things too, so it would be of interest to me to do it.

I like your moving average idea for looking at your HIVE earnings; @bearmol, is that something you do?

Great to focus on HIVE for a bit, too. 😍

EFTs sound like a good way of managing risks, and good to re-invest dividends, it's amazing how much compounding increases wealth! Long term is the view, I reckon.

No @shanibeer I don't use a moving average. But I like the idea of focusing on one or a few things. Simple

And thank you for the HSBI!
Re: stocks, I used to when I worked at the hospital and had a semi-decent income; I had set up a Roth IRA where my contributions went, and had a 403(b) where the company's contributions went. I was a follower of Suze Orman so I followed her advice to max out a Roth before you put anything into the 403(b) (for non Americans, a Roth IRA comes out of your already-taxed income so you aren't taxed on it when you withdraw; so the idea is you are paying tax on the small deposits you make and not the hopefully large withdrawals you make at retirement). I never maxed it out of course because I didn't make that much money (there's a limit on how much you are allowed to invest in a Roth per year), but since my company would give me matching deposits into a 403(b) even if I didn't put my money there, that's why I did it that way. Of course, then I lost that job and was unemployed and so I lived off of that money for some time, and no longer have any investments like that.

That's awesome!

😁 - Who would have thought? Not me, I never thought I'd get past 10k 😂

Great to see HSBI getting a revival, I love the community aspect of it and the locking in of value.

You mentioned Suze Orman before - did you recommend a book that was helpful? Interesting to understand how your pension plans work - ours is the opposite, tax-exempt contributions and taxed income beyond your tax alloawances. I guess the Treasury thought they would get more tax on the pay-outs 😁. Everyone is very anxious about the financial statement coming at the end of the month - some pensioners may find themselves subject to 55% tax.

I quite like SPI for getting into other investments like stocks and shares. We're so busy with crypto and defi at present that the stocks and shares idea has been on the back burner.

That's how 403(b) and 401(k) plans work - you get taxed on the payouts. It's also why there is a limit on how much you are allowed to put in a Roth IRA per year. So Suze's advice was, to do as much as you can in a Roth, and only once you've hit that maximum, then you can worry about the other types of plans, because you want that tax setup the most.

As far as social security, that does get taxed too.

I never thought I'd get past 10k

I can't wait to get there!

did you recommend a book that was helpful?

Yes! The Money Book For The Young, Fabulous, And Broke by Suze Orman. Explains things like retirement accounts and mortgages and all that that really we should have had a class in school for!

Glad to hear your doing better! And congrats on making your goal! For the SECOND TIME this year!! Wooo-hooo!!

Luckily, I was able to get 5 of the EDSMM tokens before they got sold out! Quick question, do you have to stake those, or no? Lol

I didn't realize that last week's contest was about HSBI, and honestly, I'm still new enough I don't really know much about it unfortunately!

But as to this week's contest, I'm very honored to have inspired it! 😊

As in regards to my post, I do plan on day trading at some point, but I do believe that investing in stocks on a long term basis is vital to the economy as well! I know the majority of people don't have a controlling stake in a company, so it doesn't seem like much, but look at what happened to AMC a couple years ago! Just because a group of individuals came together, we witnessed the rise of the AMC Apes, and we saw the stock price rise exponentially, to a high point that no expert analyst could have ever predicted.

This is what is so amazing about being a part of the silent majority, and Hive I believe is apart of that. On a small scale, look at what this community of people is doing, and have accomplished with the EDS and EDS miner and mini-miner tokens, and this is only the beginning! And look at the large scale, at what the entire Hive Blockchain has done as a whole entity since it's separation from Steem.

I know that didn't have a lot to do with actual stocks or shares, but I do believe that coming together as a group or community of people investing in something that we all value, then you couldn't lose, just like the AMC Apes.

Of course, investing always comes with a risk, so moving forward, I will only be investing into stocks or shares for companies that I actually use or support, or see being a good long term investment. Anything technology based or crypto will have a huge amount of risk, but they are definitely worth investing in long term as well.

As of right now, I've invested into a few stocks over a year ago now, which I listed in the blog you linked (thank you for that, I was so surprised when I saw it!!), and only one has actually done well, which is a coal company based out of the next state over.

So with that being said, I do plan on investing into more stocks for long term holding, but I'm not entirely sure where to start yet! And my ultimate concerns would be of another depression or stock market crash or something of that nature and lose my retirement 🤣

But personally, I would love to take a savings quiz, and think it's a great way to inspire others to want to learn other savings strategies!

You have to stake the EDSMM to start mining 😍

HSBI is a great scheme to help everyone get support, I'm doing a little campaign as we go into the holiday season to get more HSBI shares out there.

I agree the key to investing is knowing what you are investing in. When I wanted to start investing in STEEM beyond becoming a dolphin (about 5,555HP), I went to SteemFest to meet some of the people involved. I wasn't able to get to this year's HiveFest in Amsterdam, but I followed the reports of people I trust (and know personally) during and after the event. I feel it is important to form your own evaluation - start small and grow your risk as you learn more.

Interesting that you mention a coal company: what do you think about investors' power to help address climate change? In the UK, one of the six things we're asked to do by the climate change movement, is to write to our banks asking them to divest from fossil fuels.

The depressions, crashes and recessions will come, and so will recovery, it's not about all or nothing but planning and preparing for each stage of the cycle. I'm transitioning into retirement and one of the things I'm doing is boosting my emergency fund. While I've been working, 6-9 months expenses in an emergency fund was about right, for retirement I want a bit more than that available to cover bear markets.

This guy is talking about how he plans for retirement but I thought his breakdown of the length of bear markets and how frequently they've occurred was useful.

Thanks for taking part 😍

As for stocks, I think it's a valid way to make your money work for you. I tend to favor the dividend stocks a bit more but I do some value stocks as well. Most of my investment is in the stock market and I think it's fairly safe due to all other regulations. In a way, having another source of income is always good.

Congratulations to the winners.

I don't usually invest in stocks and less so in ETFs. I believe that minority shareholders are always at a clear disadvantage. My preferred investments are real estate, metals and crypto.

The truth is that I have been halfway to my goal and it seems clear that with the last falls I will not achieve it. But this low price of Hive leaves an opportunity that I can't pass up so I suspend my HBD target and put all my rewards at 100% HP. I hope to reach 650 HP before the end of the year, I am at 544 HP.

Decades ago I invested in stocks and did okay with them, but it got to the point that I did not have enough time to monitor the market close enough so I got out of them.

As for savings I am plodding along buying more tokens that folks are selling off cheap, oh how I like this down market as I can get some great deals as some folks panic and sell.

Kind of a boring week here so big news this week just keeping on keeping on.

Have a great week all.

Congrats! to last weeks winners!!

As for stocks & shares I only have one on the robinhood platform, it's just sitting there & I watch it just go up & down. I have considered getting into it more but the cost outweighs the advantage for me. I just don't have the funds to lose. I rather invest my money in Hive which is what I do. If I could squeeze out additional funds, I would consider making it part of my savings but I kinda leave stock stuff up to my husband, he likes to invest but I prefer Hive & cryptocurrency.

Hi everyone!

I am just discovering this community and I'm already exited to become part of it, and I would like to take this opportunity to introduce my first important goal: save 100 HIVE/week:
https://ecency.com/hive-167922/@steemmillionaire/saturday-saver-s-club-route-to-100-hive-per-week

Coming to your survey on people's opinion of stocks and shares as part of their savings program. In general I have a positive attitude towards this saving method as private companies do in general a good job at using investor's money to create additional value. Personally, I liquidated my portfolio in December 2019 as I expected already a crash. Companies are supra-evaluated in my opinion, and a correction is imminent. But I was wrong - COVID changed the rules of the game, and at least in Europe, governments got themselves involved in pumping the economy. Never the less, in my opinion this was not a solution of the problems, and I think now a correction is very close.

Welcome @steemmillionaire, good to see you 😍.

I'll add your goals to next week's chart.

You're making a couple of good points about stocks and shares, especially companies creating value and about over valuated shares. Many thanks!

Thank you so much for the HSBI.

For me, stocks is part of my investment portfolio.
The stocks that I have come from 2 sources.

  1. Personal purchase. I monitor some of the stock and buy for long term investment with reference to S&P 500 and also uprising companies that are bringing changes to current norms.
  2. Company issues stocks. This is given through stock grant for employee retention policies and it does give a good indicative insights of the industry to see if it there is opportunity to capture some stock on low and also to sell when we are reaching peak in terms of industry growth.

For me, stocks do behave like how are doing here in terms of savings in view of long term seeing growth and slowly capturing dividends. But the advantage of my 2nd source of stocks do give me insights and help me do some flipping in terms of understanding the market situation of a particular industry.

A simple 2 cents sharing. Cheers everyone!
