Exploring Israel | Japanese Garden in Holon
Hello and welcome to "Exploring Israel" series. I enjoy exploring my country by photowalking and photocycling¹
Today I want to share with you my #wednesdaywalk in Japanese Garden. It is located in the middle of my hometown of Holon.
Holon (Hebrew: חוֹלוֹן (audio) (help·info)) is a city on the central coastal strip of Israel, south of Tel Aviv. Holon is part of the metropolitan Gush Dan area. In 2019 it had a population of 196,282. Holon has the second-largest industrial zone in Israel, after Haifa.²
The garden has an area of 2dunams (2000m²) and is inspired by Japanese style gardening.
There are several paths that lead to the garden. The main two entrances feature a Torii style structures.
A torii (Japanese: 鳥居, [to.ɾi.i]) is a traditional Japanese gate most commonly found at the entrance of or within a Shinto shrine, where it symbolically marks the transition from the mundane to the sacred.³
The garden is square shaped with a running stream, waterfall, shaded benches and a big Japanese style pergola.
After entering, you begin to walk on the beautiful path that runs on the perimeter of the garden.
In the middle of the garden you see a beautiful, winding stream of a crystal clear water. The banks of the stream are decorated by rocks and abounds with greenery.
In between the curves of the stream, you see a green island with a Japanese style pergola. You use a bridge to cross the stream, enter the pergola and sit on the bench in a pleasant shade. You get lost in the sounds of streaming water.
After resting for a bit, you notice a big waterfall in front of the pergola.
You find a big bridge just in front of the waterfall.
After enjoying the waterfall you take another slow walk along the path, exploring for additional beautiful views.
Hopefully I was able to bring this beautiful garden to life and convey it's natural beauty, for you to enjoy in this virtual walk.
