A visit of the Batu Caves in Kuala Lumpur / Ein Besuch der Batu Höhlen in Kuala Lumpur
On the second last day during my trip to Malaysia, we visited the Batu Caves. These are located just outside Kuala Lumpur and can be reached by car in about 20 minutes (15 kilometres north of KL). The entrance to the caves is free of charge. One should however pay attention to the clothing and cover if necessary free body places. At the entrance you can borrow a cover for little money. When you arrive at the cave, you come to a forecourt where a huge golden statue rises into the sky. On the front place there are some monkeys and doves on the way, as the tourists and the locals feed the animals. With the monkeys at the caves, you have to be really careful, as they like to quickly make a long finger and steal objects that hang around.
Am vorletzten Tag während meiner Reise nach Malaysia, haben wir die Batu Höhlen besucht. Diese liegen etwas außerhalb von Kuala Lumpur und sind in ca. 20 Minuten (15 Kilometer nördlich von KL) mit dem Auto zu erreichen. Der Eintritt in die Höhlen ist kostenfrei. Man sollte aber auf die Bekleidung achten und ggf. freie Körperstellen bedecken. Am Eingang kann man sich für wenig Geld eine Bedeckung ausleihen. An der Höhle angekommen, gelangt man an einen Vorplatz, wo eine riesige goldene Statue in den Himmel ragt. Auf dem Vorplatz sind einige Äffchen und Tauben unterwegs, da die Touristen und die Locals die Tiere füttern. Bei den Affen an den Höhlen muss man echt vorsichtig sein, da diese gerne mal schnell einen langen Finger machen und Gegenstände die herumbaumeln stehlen.
On the way up to the caves you have to climb 272 steep stairs. On the stairs the monkeys wait patiently for the next food or objects. The stairs are colorfully painted and in rainy weather you have to be careful not to slip. At the top you have a wonderful view of the city, the statue and the forecourt. Especially in the evening hours this view is ingenious.
Beim Aufstieg zu den Höhlen muss man 272 steile Treppen nach oben laufen. Auf den Treppen warten dann die Äffchen geduldig auf das nächste Futter oder Gegenstände. Die Treppen sind bunt angemalt und bei Regenwetter muss man hier gut aufpassen, das man nicht ausrutscht. Oben angekommen hat man einen wunderbaren Ausblick auf die Stadt, die Statue und den Vorplatz. Besonders in den Abendstunden ist dieser Ausblick genial.
Further into the cave, one goes down a longer path, where already larger Hindu temples stand. You feel quite small when you stand in the huge cave. In the cave it is a bit cooler than outside. At the time we were there, there was not really much going on in the cave and the temples.
A little further up, one gets into the actual big hall with a big hole in the roof of the cave. Partly from there the only daylight comes into the cave. In the middle of the cave there is another Hindu temple. At the time when we arrived there, a praying started.
Weiter in der Höhle hinein, geht man einen längeren Weg hinunter, wo auch schon größerer Hindu Tempel steht. Man kommt sich ziemlich klein vor, wenn man in der riesigen Höhle steht. In der Höhle ist es etwas Kühler als draußen. Zum Zeitpunkt wo wir da waren, war nicht wirklich viel los in der Höhle und den Tempeln.
Ein Stückchen weiter hoch, kommt man dann in die eigentliche große Halle mit einem großen Loch in der Decke der Höhle. Unter anderem von dort kommt das einzige Tageslicht in die Höhle. In mitten der großen Fläche steht ein weiterer Hindu Tempel. Zum Zeitpunkt, wo wir dort angekommen sind, ging ein Gebet los.
Suddenly it started raining. After about half an hour we dared to leave the cave due to the rain. We got quite wet already. During the descent from the cave we had to be careful not to slip on the steep stairs and to slide down the 272 stairs :-D
I can recommend a visit to the Batu Caves in any case, if you are in Kuala Lumpur and want to see something special. Free of charge. I take home many great memories from my visit to the caves.
Plötzlich hat es angefangen zu regnen. Nach etwa einer halben Stunde haben wir uns dann gewagt, durch den Regen wieder die Höhle zu verlassen. Ordentlich nass geworden sind wir schon. Beim Abstieg aus der Höhle mussten wir richtig gut aufpassen, das wir auf den steilen Treppen nicht ausrutschen und die 272 Treppen runterrutschen :-D
Einen Besuch der Batu Höhlen kann ich auf jeden Fall empfehlen, wenn man mal in Kuala Lumpur unterwegs ist und etwas besonderes sehen möchte. Kostenfrei. Ich nehme von meinem Besuch der Höhlen viele tolle Erinnerungen mit nach Hause.
