A Step Toward Success and Self Discovery. Be the Penguin

What does happiness mean to you?
What does happiness look like in your life right now?
What are you doing in life right now?

These are three powerful questions where no ones answer is the same as anyone else's and someones answer could change very quickly. In life we always seek to find joy and discover ourselves some find it quick, some it takes a while and in rare cases some not at all but either way people give it their all to achieve this.

I recently came across a penguin clip on my Instagram feed that’s gone viral and turned into a bit of a meme. You may already know the one I’m talking about, but for those who haven’t seen it yet, it shows a penguin that, instead of going left with some or right with others, walks straight ahead towards a massive mountain many miles away, with no clear goal in sight. It’s a simple but powerful image, and one that’s sparked a lot of interest lately including myself and a friend i went to the gym with late yesterday evening.

I bring the penguin thing up because if i told myself lets say 6 years ago as that is when i joined Hive. If you told me that i would be reading lots, learning, creating, discovering crypto and blockchain tech i would have probably called you a liar becasue the truth is i did none of those things especially when leaving school with no grades and no belief that i could focus, learn and even achieve. Now in the last 6 years i have learnt so much i have done things i wouldn't have done and i have changed my life in small ways. Even with my current achievements and things i have been doing i am still that small penguin still finding my way still searching for what ever it is that is out there but, i can proudly say im giving it my all and trying despite the negatives.

going back to the three questions for myself i don't really have a clear cut answer i could say happiness to me means being financially stable, having good friends around you and persuing dreams. That could change a few weeks down the line. I could say happiness in my life right now means having good perople around me and persuing things i enjoy not caring about peoples opinions, but again that answer can change. Then as for my life right now what am i doing? well im socialising more, building connections, focusing more on my future career. But say in a months time that could all change. The questions above will always be asked and you giving the answer will likely be different each time when asked. Be the penguin!

Today as i write this post i am sitting here at my desk its a saturday afternoon. I am quite cold and my muscles ache from yesterdays gym session and dare i say it i felt unmotivated but, i will try. and since just turning on the pc the brain has flowed and the unmotivated has become motivated, that won't happen everytime and it is normal to feel down and have a bad day, ive had a bad few months but it is good days that make my week and a good week makes my month. Going into this post i wasn't sure what tone and goal this post will put out, i still don't know that answer despite being 500+ words into creating this. I just really let the brain flow and fingers glide across the keyboard typing what i sense in the moment and sometimes sure i could have planned more and prepped but also sometimes it is good to write in the moment just like living in the moment.

Old photos from a couple of winters ago and one of the first times i have gone to the coast in winter season. The cold air coming off the waves are fearce and the overal temperature is blisteing cold, the seaside town is empty and quiet. Despite all of this there are a few people around with companions or solo and they smile they brave the weather. it is known it is cold, damp and not nice yet despite this they still go out and they do things, now convert that too what you are going through and pushing towards. You know you may not reach it, you might struggle much more but you still do it! Be the Penguin!

after times of struggle, long days or just a normal day theres no greater feeling than doing something you enjoy and for me there are many things i could do, but one thing i enjoy doing more now that its winter and colder is relaxing in a quiet cosy pub by the fire watching sports, catching up with friends and drinking a nice cold beverage to unwind and again live in the moment. One thing i have learnt recently is surround yourself with good company and they will always be there for you. I haven't been to the pub in over a week now due to prioritizing the gym and being a little bit more healthier but i will probably end up going if not over this weekend probably somewhen in the new week and i garantee that at least one person will grab and tighlty squeeze my shoulder as i lean over the bar to order a drink and they will say soemthing along the lines of "how are you"?. three words yet put together asks a question and i have two options small talk or deep dive and now i always opt for the deep dive and i ask them the same and from the small experience i have had if you are more open they are too and conversation is very important in todays world with social media and digitalisation. I grew up around social media but being a 2000 kid but it wasn't as big as it is now even phones lacked back then and i am grateful for that, as today there is not too many people around and when they are they on their phones whilst with thier friends and not living in the moment as much.

I mentioned earlier i didn't really know how this post will turn out and after 1000+ words now i still don't have a clear answer. But i think that is okay just like my three questions at the start it is a tricky question the solve and the answer could change each time. I guess the goal with this post was to let my mind flow and let you the reader decide how it comes across but maybe the quality isnt there maybe my writing level isn't as good for this type of post but maybe it doesn't matter because i try and just like you, you try with your projects. We give it our all and that is what matters.

That is what i like most about the people im surrounded with and platforms like Hive, i don't have to be perfect, i don't have to be all knowing, i just have to try and give it my all.

Be the penguin

I will conclude my post here, i hope you have enjoyed reading and enjoyed something in it. Wishing you a good rest of the weekend.

Special thanks to @creativeworkhour @alessandrawhite this post was mostly written during participating in the very cool CWH sessions.

Interesting analogy with the penguin's behavior and all the learning you've gained in recent years to be able to answer your questions... Sending you a big hug from Cuba!

I have a feeling that penguin was going to die alone out there ;)

That doesn't mean we shouldn't take a different path sometimes. There have been a few times when I took a chance and it worked out well.

Be the Penguin, indeed. I loved this shared perspective, Chris, and great to see that you have so many insights on your own life. It's so true - the questions you pose do not relate to something that exists in a vacuum. Life is dynamic. Every action, every choice guides the next step, and moves us physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually from where we were yesterday to where we are today. Sometimes the step-changes are so small, we do not notice them, but when we look back over time, we recognise where the material shifts occurred that drove key changes in our lives. So, yes... the you of yesterday, last week, last month doesn't see the world the same as the you of today. You are shaped by your experiences over time, and naturally, your perspectives adjust accordingly. Great post!

You are not alone Chris. I too struggle with "ups and downs". It is a daily fight. But I am winning and refuse to lose. Just refuse to lose my friend.

@chris-uk...

I've been busy with this thing called "life" and failed to see your post. Since it's passed pay out, I'm not going to upvote, but I did cross-post. You've asked if your post was going to be accepted, or rather... was it "too much". But this is right what I was hoping folks would do! Certainly in the #thoughtfuldailypost community, let alone for a life orientation. It seems the short form content has become more popular... the days of taking weeks to create a post are so "last year" ☺️.

With whatever is going on with our blockchain, I'm sure everyone is tickled pink just to see "something". Combined with my continued quest for everyone to stick with the guidelines I've created... if you let one slide, you've got to let everyone do it. So between my life's issues, and guidelines. I usually pass content by. But I made an exception here... your words below, speak volumes:

"That is what i like most about the people im surrounded with and platforms like Hive, i don't have to be perfect, i don't have to be all knowing, i just have to try and give it my all."

oh, this is a wonderful post! What a great stream of consciousness, all brought about by a lone penguin, blazing his own trail! I think many of us can identify with what you've written, but you've expressed it so beautifully! Kudos!😊

...sending a tip since this post is too old to upvote...
