Checking the Steem stats
I like to keep an eye on various numbers to see how the Steem platform is doing. After nearly 3 years here I had expected it to be much bigger by now, but it seems people are reluctant to use it even though it offers most the chance to earn something. Of course there are still lots who have not even heard of it. That is why some of us post about it so much on other platforms, but then you risk boring your followers. You have to strike the right balance.
One of the sites I check is @stateofthedapps where Steem dapps are doing really well. Steemit has been top for a while. There is a table showing overall stats by blockchain.
EOS has more transactions, but this post suggests that is largely bots using gambling dapps. Bots do account for a lot of activity on Steem too, but we know there are thousands of humans here and that gives me hope. People keep coming back. We need to show more support for those creating good content, but not making much or they may give up. That is partly why I started the @tenkminnows project.
I would hope that bots will become a lesser part of Steem as it grows. As well as being used to sell votes they also leave various comments and some people abuse them to spam those that dislike. That sort of behaviour could deter investors.
The Steemit site has improved a little on Hypestat recently. That may be partly down to getting some visits from China. I thought it was blocked there as their visits dropped right off a while back.
Of course I check the Steem price too. It has improved a little recently, but we need something radical to get out back in the top ranks on @coingecko. It really does not deserve to be down in the 60s. Steem is going used a lot more than most coins.
I am still cautiously optimistic for the future of Steem. It has something to offer the world and we have a great community who want to see it succeed.

I'd like to see a business arrive that pulls existing customers in with it. Perhaps steem-engine can help while we all grow old waiting for SMT.
Yes, we need businesses or creators who can bring in thousands of new users. Steem needs to be more attractive than starting their own blockchain from scratch.
Hmmm, we need a sexy UI and a story to tell.

Well we have various wants to access it now. I use Partiko a lot and that's easy for anyone to use, although composing this post was not ideal with it. I'm hoping we can take that next step soon.
I'm actually surprised that there are more dapps on EOS than Steem. And that many more! Are there really that many gambling dapps on there? haha.
Gambling seems to be the 'killer dapp', although we have had some shut down on Steem. It's not something I'm into, but we need diversity.
People are still living in ignorance of steem.more people need to join
A blockchain that is mainly gambling like EOS risks being shut down by governments. Especially when the block producers need to be large entities that are easy to target.

I had wondered about that. Gambling is heavily regulated and operators will need to extract their money eventually. It could potentially be tracked. This could gain Steem the wrong kind of attention.
I think it is just going to take one more innovation or dapp to push things over the edge for Steem and we will start seeing it grow in a huge way. That is my hope anyway. I am a big fan of EOS too though, so it doesn't make me feel bad to see it at the top, bots or not.
I think so we should work hard on social media to give additional promotion to STEEM project. Need to be on number one .

Here is an older post I have about the highest paying dapps on STEEM. Most of these are going to upvote your post if you use them once day.
I only post with these now and it has really helped my three blogs do better. Because I have 3 niches I use different dapps for each of them.
Which dApps have the best payouts on STEEM?
I send this to people to try to get them to stop posting for no reward on steemit, and sometimes they listen :)
I do take advantage of what some of those dapps offer in terms of votes. It all helps build up my SP without resorting to the more commercial 'bots'. New users should try them out too.
