South Africa-new World Champions!

How did we prepare for the England game today?
For those that do not know, South Africa won the Rugby World Cup final today.

We had a surprise invitation to go and watch the game at a church fete in a rural town. Some clever pastor saw the opportunity for a fundraiser in the popularity of the World Cup and the plan worked.
A big screen was erected under a canopy and the church ladies stacked some stalls with their wares. It was indeed a great occasion, as everyone had the World Cup spirit.

But first have a look at the gathering!

And now for some photos at the end of the game!

What a great moment as the World Cup is handed over to South Africa.

A solitary moment of thanksgiving by a Bok player!

By now the world knows that South Africa is a rugby nation and that they have a very proud history. Big tough boys and a scrum that is fearsome to players of other nations as England once again saw today.

Some World Cup Statistics here;

"The first Rugby World Cup, jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand, was held in May and June 1987; with 16 nations taking part.
New Zealand became the first champions.

The 1991 final was held in England and Australia defeated England.

In 1995 the cup was held in South Africa, and won by South Africa - beating New Zealand.

1999, hosted by Wales and the UK, saw Australia winning it.

2003 was held in Australia, and England beat Australia in the final.

The 2007 one in France. South Africa beat England in the final.

2011 saw New Zealand winning against France.

2015, hosted by England, had New Zealand beating Australia in the final.

World Cup 2019, hosted by Japan, saw South Africa claim their third trophy to match New Zealand for the most Rugby World Cup titles. South Africa defeated England 32-12 in the final today.

I am not into rugby and have not been watching the games, but congratulations to the South African team. England did well to make the final. I was out in very different weather when the match was on :)

Sad that you could not watch it Sir Steve, as it was indeed a game of note.
We don't have a TV anymore and I have only watched two games before at a coffee house, so the invitation came as a blessing.
Hope your Sunday is good my friend.

I am not that big into watching sport and I was out anyway. Watching as a social event can be fun. I know a lot of pubs around here were busy yesterday morning.

To each his own my friend, I am not going to criticize you for not watching sport as you have more than enough going for you in your life.
The social event was also a first for us, as we are not very fond of crowds but I am glad that we went as it was indeed a great experience.
Hope your Sunday is good.
Blessings!

Thank you JJ.
Just my personal opinion here, but I think that the English scrum cost them the game, as they couldn't match the power of the Boks.
But watch and make up your own mind.
Blessings!

It was a great performance by South Africa, yes with the forwards but the whole team really stepped it up and dominated South Africa, they truly deserved the win and the World Cup

Agreed with you my friend, they had the right game plan and performed it almost to perfection.

Yes that sums it up well, and some/of the England team showed they are not only poor winners but poor losers apparently a couple of the team would not let them put the silver medal around their neck and ditched them
So little class

Hahaha, what else would you expect JJ. They are known for their manners.
At least many loudmouths all of a sudden have nothing to say.

Ohh yes the silence from them are the game was kind of demeaning, actually as was the crown, the Swing High song faded away as did England

Well, we will leave them them at their misery my friend. South Africa is known as a developing country, sometimes as a third world country and to beat the "crown" empire is a great feat.
Sour stew all over the place there.
I heard the their prince Harry is planning to come and live here.
Blessings!

There are so many rumors about prince Harry some also suggest moving to America and giving up his Royal title

Maybe he knows that the queue to the throne is too long my friend.
That throne has a history of moving very slowly..

Pulling people together through sport, it was amazing to feel the excitement of standing together as one nation again, let us hope it lasts....

Another good sign was not going into junk status by Moody's, they have given us a small breather, hope and pray this opportunity is used wisely.

Thank you and good news all round Lady Joan, although Moody's placed us only one rung above junk status.
Let's hope that the lesson by the Boks can galvanize some good results in the economic sector, as our work increases by the day.

Hahaha, I think that many saffers will have hoarse voices this morning my friend. Shall we call them the Strepsill's brigade Lol
Agreed that the powerful Boks machine ran at an optimum.

Thank you Mrs. Bird. I agree with you and it was a first for us to celebrate like this. We received a warm welcome and everyone was in a congenial mood.
Nothing like the rowdy and drunken parties in the cities.
Just a huge group of farmers with their families.
A great experience indeed.
Blessings also to you guys!

Totally agreed with you my dear friend.
It was indeed a game of note and let's hope that the win can help to change things in our country. I am so tired of politicians using racism as a voting tool.

Howdy sir papilloncharity! Congratulations, I hadn't heard about that victory. And that was a wonderful gathering there! What is a scrum?

0

avatar

Thank you Sir @janton a scrum is simply 8 guys pushing against another 8 guys to get the ball out that is placed in the middle of them.

Oh ok, yes I watched some of the World championships one day out of curiosity and was very impressed with how brutal the sport is! lol.

We prefer to call it a tough and physical game Sir @janton and I also played the game at both primary and high schools.

I call it a torturous kick-ass game. lol.

Well, when one emerges from a huge ruckus, ball in hand and speeding towards a try line it is a heavenly feeling of achievement my friend.

Lots of people don't follow it but they watch the Super Bowl, did you ever do that?

0

Sure, I watched a few games, but to me it's not real rugby my friend.
Crunching tackles that excite the crowd and fast runners all wearing safety helmets and padding is not my idea of rugby.

Oh I agree sir papilloncharity. I would think that some of the good Rugby players could come over to the National Football League in America and make 10 times the money, although that is just an assumption, I don't know what the rugby players make.

Some of our star players, especially the great kicker Naas Botha went over to play for your big name teams Sir @janton and they did exceptionally well.
