Morning Run: New shoes

I just finished a 6.957km running that lasted about 0hh:39mm:34ss !

I have been planning to get some new shoes for a while, but I wanted to use my Wirex card and they were not allowing deposits for ages. Thankfully they are now and so I added some funds from what I've made from the Brave browser as well as some from Splinterlands. I went for these shoes from Allbirds. I wanted to get something more ethical as running shoes do not last very long. They use natural rubber, wool and other renewable materials. I had to return the first pair I got as they were a little too small, but these fit well. The turnaround time on the return was speedy. I am getting used to the feel, but on this run they were fine. Runner's World quite liked them.

I did not have time for a longer run today, but I did a quick dash up to Fairfield. I say 'quick', but I was not going all out. Around 5:40min/km is a comfortable pace for me. It was a lot warmer than yesterday at around 11C, so I was sweating well.

I heard a woodpecker up in the woods which is always nice to hear. There were a few other runners out there and I managed to catch and overtake a young lady on my way up the hill. Not that it means much as she could have been taking it easy.

It has been a fairly busy day renovating a house, so I will be relaxing this evening.

Run free and stay well.

They look comfy. I hear it's always best to get a size larger than your actual size for better comfort and fewer injuries.

They are a half size bigger than my normal shoes. The first ones squeezed my toes and that is not good. Need some room in there.

New shoe day mate, love it...You will have to tell us how the Allbirds go long term as I have not hear much about them, even living in NZ.

Will do. It's good to see companies taking real action on these issues. I know some of the big ones have done some limited efforts, but they should do more given how much waste they generate.

They are some funky looking shoes. Look more like dress shoes than runners. I'd be interested in how you feel in a few weeks. ...and wow I though it would be near impossible to get BAT out of a Brave wallet. I might give that a try one of these days.

A lot of running shoes are a bit gaudy with lots of logos and stuff. These are more minimalist with no plastic.

I got BAT out via Uphold. Was able to convert to something I could send to my crypto debit card. I want to enjoy some benefit from all this crypto.

Thanks for sharing Steve! @consciouscat check these out we need to look into the shoes and the brave browser. The shoes almost look zero drop. I would like to transition away from my Hokas and Nikes but it might take some time as the small amount minimalistic shoe running I have done has been really hard on my ankles. I have collected a few of these !LOL I can now share.

Did you hear about the Scooby Doo villain who became an Olympic swimmer?
He would have won, if it weren't for all those medaling kids!

@steevc, I sent you an $LOLZ on behalf of @new.things
Use the !LOL or !LOLZ command to share a joke and an $LOLZ. (4/4)

I wore them again for my hill sprints workout and they were good, but it did feel like I was slipping a bit at times. Not sure if that was real or not, but the shoes feel fine otherwise. I'm not sure how many running shops will stock them if you want to try them on, but their returns policy is good. Just ask if you have any questions.

I love the sustainability aspect of them. I think I'll need to wait 'til they bring out something more minimalist in shape (wider toe box so my toes can spread like they want to). But I'm DELIGHTED to become aware of this company. Glad you told us about it @steevc! !LOL

There are other ethical companies. Vivo is one, but not sure they do actual running shoes. I'll keep looking at the options for other gear.
