Hello, dear Hive Diy community! I hope you are having a great day today.

Today, I’m sharing a new drawing with you. This time, I’ve drawn Laios and Marcille, the two main characters from the anime Dungeon Meshi.

Honestly, I can’t tell you much about the plot yet, as I’ve only watched four episodes. Essentially, it follows four people who venture into a dungeon in search of adventure, facing various challenges along the way. What’s unique about this anime is that it also focuses on cooking; the adventures aren’t just about action—after every battle against an enemy or monster, the characters prepare a meal using those very enemies as ingredients. Haha, don’t worry—the "enemies" are just animals, like giant chickens or shellfish. It might sound strange at first, but it’s actually presented quite naturally—it even makes you hungry watching them prepare each dish! Haha.

The main goal of the series is for Laios to rescue his younger sister from the dungeon. I’m really enjoying it so far! I didn’t think it would catch my interest—I even expected to drop it after the second episode—but I’m actually loving it.

Without further ado, let’s walk through the process.

PROCESO | PROCESS

  • I started with a rough sketch of what I had in mind. This time, I experimented with a much more extreme perspective than I’m used to. It was quite a challenge to land on a pose I was truly happy with, but after several hours, I managed to get it right.
  • Once the structure was set, I moved on to the final line art. The concept was to have Laios looking a bit serious, with Marcille standing behind him in a more relaxed pose. Haha.

  • With the line art complete, I began applying the base colors—working section by section to fill in every part of both characters.

  • Once the previous step was complete, it was time to add shading. To do this, I grouped all the base colors into a single folder and created a "clipping mask" set to "multiply" mode on top of it; that’s where I began applying the shadows.
  • I started with the shadows for Laios, placing them wherever I felt they made sense—I didn’t follow a specific guide or anything; I just went with my intuition. Once I finished with Laios, I moved on to the shadows for Marcille.

As a final step, I added some highlights. This was my first time trying this technique, so it was a bit of an experiment. I used an off-white, yellowish color to create very intense highlights on both characters.

Even though it was an experiment, I’m honestly quite happy with how it turned out, and I’ll likely use this approach again.

Lastly, I added shadows beneath the characters.

And there you have it—that’s the final result. I really enjoyed working on this piece, and I highly recommend checking out the series!

Take care, and see you in the next post.
