My DIY under wears using Scrap fabrics

Hello, everybody! how are you all?

I pray that you are all happy and safe.

How's life going? Is it getting colder from where you are now?
Without further ado, Let me begin my share for today.

Horray! I was able to make underwear!

It was my very long dream to do so but since I don't have time because of my work and being a mom, I rarely have free time to do sewing.

So Early in January last year, I was able to buy a portable mini sewing machine.

It only costs a little over P1,000.00 including the shipping fee. Items like that are not available locally and fear I going to the City because of Covid so I chose to purchase them online. I was glad I was given a good machine though. Some people fear of purchasing things online because some sellers are scammers.

I actually have two sewing machines now. I bought the small one way back in December 2021. It was working great but I only has a standard stitch. I needed at least a zigzag stitch in sewing with elastics and the portable mini sewing machine with 12 stitches is perfect for me.

After being able to repair those torn clothes, I dreamed of making my kids their panties. I shopped online again and bought scrap fabrics. That's the good thing about the shop that I found because it sells scrap fabrics per kilo at a much cheaper price. But since it was sold per kilo, the shipping cost is a bit high.

Also, I bought elastics which were sold per kilo. What I love most about online shopping is that I can take my time comparing the prices and qualities of different shops without the pressure of buying yet and I can wait for the monthly sales and free vouchers.

In June this year, I won twice on a single raffle. But too bad it felt like I bought the items because of the costly shipping fees that I had to pay with the courier services.

I won three sizes of loom knit rings which I haven't used yet, 4 cones of japan thread, and this 1.5-inch elastic.

Here is what I made!

I have already made my kids their panties way back in June this year but my husband keeps complaining about his underpants getting tighter. Well, he gained weight over the years and I don't want to buy him one because I wanted to make him one. It's like breaking through what I know I can't do.I was successful though.

So I referred to Pinterest for the pattern on the garment but what I made was too small. It was funny though. I never realized at first that the actual size described and the printed pattern are not accurate.

I got desperate so I tore out one of my husband's undergarments so I can get the exact size of it. I traced them on paper and tried to perfect them.

The first that I made was too tight on his waist and thighs so I made some adjustments.

I just added a few centimeters on the edges and voila! When my husband tried it on he said he was very comfortable with it.

Since the last one that I made is nearly perfect, I took the patterns in my workplace So I can glue them on a cardboard ( better this way just in case I need them someday).

Also, I cut the fabrics that I needed in my free time so I would be able to sew them when I will be able to go home.

I was not able to take documentation on my cutting but it was fun and laborious at the same time since I was using scrap fabrics. But here are the finished cuttings. The ones on the plastic are the scraps. Funny enough scaps are more than good fabrics.

Here are some of the details of my work;

The men's underwear folded on the front

The side seam details on the bad side, and the stitch on the elastics on the hip and thighs.

A 2-layered zigzag stitch on the elastic. I had to go twice on this because experimented on how to attach the elastics.

The stitches on the good side of the undergarment.

Also, I made one for my son! It was fun to do it too.

Here is the actual size, it's so small but fits him perfectly

This is an under wear my size and the most comfortable thing to wear. But I had to make adjustments on the front part because it was a bit long.

You may notice that the colors of the underwear are almost the same. that's the bad side of using scrap fabrics but it does not really matter to me since I am using them personally and it was just sort of practice.

Also, the stitches made by the machine are not that consistent. Sometimes I had to pull to make my work done fast. Lols. Can't blame me, I guess if I would upgrade my machine, the stitches will be better.

Someday, if I have enough money and time, I would go for a better (not scrap) fabrics and better elastics too! Ooh, I'm excited about this plan.

I am very happy that I made these things of the people that I loved. I was never wrong about making them. This was, I was able to have bigger savings and I am learning a new skill too! I might not need to buy new underwears in the coming days, right?

I hope you enjoyed my share for today. Keep safe and keep on making.

Of all the skills I have known, this is the one I don't like to do. Hehe.
That is why I always admire like you who can do that.
Good job.☺️

It is an excellent job which you present. You have a standard model but the colors and the pattern of the fabrics are very nice for any young woman who likes them. The important thing though, is that they are comfortable and affordable.
Good work @yoieuqudniram

Es un excelente trabajo el cual presentas. Tienes un modelo estandar pero los colores y el estampado de las telas son muy bonitos para cualquier mujer joven que le agrade. Aunque lo importante, es que sean cómodos y económicos.
Buen trabajo @yoieuqudniram
