5 Minute Freewrite - He Shook His Head

Doing a challenge on 5 minute Freewrite, please see below for my story:

As the sun began to set, John made his way down the winding path that led to his family's cabin. It had been months since he had been back, and he couldn't wait to spend some time in the peaceful surroundings of the woods.

As he approached the cabin, John noticed a figure standing outside. It was his brother, Tom. John could tell by the way Tom was standing that something was wrong.

"What's going on?" John asked, as he got closer.

Tom looked up, his eyes filled with worry. "Dad's gone," he said, his voice shaking.

John felt his heart sink. He had been worried about their father's health for some time, but he had hoped that he would be okay.

He shook his head, trying to push away the feeling of sadness that was creeping up inside him. He knew that he needed to be strong for his family.

Together, John and Tom went inside to face the difficult days ahead. But even as they mourned their loss, John couldn't help but feel grateful for the time he had spent with his father, and for the memories that would stay with him forever.
