The times during lockdown

Two years ago, I remember, it was 3 days before our written assessment the students are busy complying with projects and stressed studying because we still have a comprehensive exam for each major course when the school admin announced the two weeks suspension of classes due to the emerging of COVID-19 disease. I was in dilemma if I would book a plane ticket to go home or stay and wait when to lift the lockdown because we still have exams to take. So, I talked to my parents.

After consulting my parents about the situation, I decided to just stay here in Cebu since it is already impossible to me to go home because there is no more mood of transportation available due to the early lockdown implementation in Mindanao. My friends studying in Davao said that they are already gotten back home since the suspension took place a week earlier. Considering the number of passengers, students alone traveling back home, and limited transport vehicles it’s already chaotic. Furthermore, in our area was difficult to close to none to have internet access, take phone calls, and send text messages you still need to room around for a good network signal.

Then one of my friends advised me if I have relatives or someone, I know who owns a house that I could stay in the meantime, considering the worse of total lockdown that you can not step outside your door and, I’m living all alone in a boarding house. After that there is one person that comes to my mind but we are not close though, yet I still tried to contact that person and she happily agreed. She is also from our town; her name is Bing. She is a family friend; she also went here to Cebu to finish her study and now have her own family.

First, ate Bing and I agreed that they will go to fetch me from my boarding house at night but for some reason, her father-in-law still using their car and it will be late if they going to wait for it to return so she asks me if I can commute then she gives me instruction if what route and vehicle should I take and decide the meetup place. After an hour of travel and waiting, we finally met together with her husband they fetch me at the terminal and go straight to their home and have some chitchat on the way. Since its already late when we got to their home, ate Bing just accompanied me to the room where I am going to stay and bid our goodnights. I think because of tiredness I just find myself fast asleep.

The sunrise the next day only I got the chance to see the whole house and meet her husband’s family it is like a compound. At first, I am shy but they welcome me and treat me well so in a short period I already feel comfortable and felt at home. The supposed to be two weeks becomes months and now years. We have an arrangement that my father would give money every week for my share of food and some for monthly expenses. After 4 months I decided to pull out my things from my previous boarding house because it is a waste of money if I keep paying rent and I am not there.

A month later ate and Kuya give me a small space inside the house to construct a small room for me to have my own space because the bedroom that I am using at that time is for ate Bing’s cousin. So, before her cousin’s back the small construction started and I transfer all my thing immediately after its finished. After a couple of days ate Bing’s cousin arrived and that was time I meet ate Vicssie .

And that was the beginning of a friendship. Thank you for taking the time to read up here. Take care Hivers!

It seems that the friends at that time were very compact and of course it was extraordinary to be able to join friends during the lockdown.
