Whisky sunset, Japanese style

avatar

I was doing a few chores today, including my weekly cleaning out of the chickens. It was nice out as long as the sun was shining. Another job I had to sort out was a door into our walk-in wardrobe. That is a walled-off part of our bedroom with a door for each of us. The handle for one of those doors was just not working. I tried to lever the catch with a knife, but it just was not moving. I was going to try a hacksaw to cut it off, but my neighbour Dave offered his powered saw. That went through the brass in a few minutes (loudly). Dave said we should toast this achievement and dived into his whisky collection.

He came up with some Tenjaku from Japan. I am not sure I have tried Japanese whisky before.

Bottle

We drank it straight. I found it quite light with a slightly sweet taste, but still a bit of whisky 'spice'. It was one to sip and enjoy.

Label

We stood out in the garden to enjoy our drink. The sitting areas were not getting the sun by then. It tends to set between the two houses across the road. I was trying to capture it in my glass. If you can have a tequila sunrise, then why not a whisky sunset?

Sunset

By the time we finished it was getting cold and time to go in. I needed to have something to eat before listening to @radioliquorice. Check it out for some nice music.

Cheers!

"Whiskey sunset" - nice!
I've tried two Japanese whiskeys and they were both very good. I was quite surprised how good in fact.

The Japanese have a long history of brewing drinks and have done well with whisky too. Just makes me think of Lost in Translation :)

Yes. True.

I haven't seen that movie in a really long time. I may need to rewatch it. I remember there being a lot of karaoke in it lol

Only tried the Yamasaki Japanese whisky and found it only “ok” stick to single malt scotch whisky is my recommendation.

I think there will be good and average whiskies from various places. Just have to find ones you like.

Have you seen this movie? Bill seems to like Japanese whisky, but that was Suntory.

I once bought a Japanese whisky and I loved it. A co worker who knows a lot about whiskey told me that Japan has a few good whisky's.

Cool. It was Suntory that featured in Lost in Translation. That one looks very pale.

Hahahah, you guys had that just to celebrate cutting off a door? Y'all are really jolly folks, no one should let y'all do any carpentry, though 😅. That seems like really good whisky, for me the best alcoholic drink is always the one with some sweetness blended in and not just some bitter hot stuff. Ah, I can't hate on a whisky sunset, dude 🥂

Any achievement is worth celebrating. Not that we need an excuse for whisky :)

Very cool. I have been wanting to try some of the Japanese whiskey's for a while now, but I never get around to picking one of them up when I am at the store. I am going to have to just bite the bullet and try one sometime. It sounds like they lean more towards the Scotch side of things than an American Whiskey. Nice review! A well earned treat for a hard days work!

I will look at adding some American whiskey to my collection soon. I am all for variety. Dave may have some I could review. He's just not into social media.

I get it! He sounds like he has a pretty decent collection from what you said.
