The News

I am not sure there is too much to report on the state of Hive and crypto in general this week. Prices continue to be volatile. I will let you make your own decisions on whether to buy or sell anything, but I will keep on powering up my $HIVE.

Prices

There is a proposal to get more funding to one of the main Hive developers. You can vote for as many proposals as you like. They need a certain level of support to get funded.

Friday Follows

  • @tdctunes and @stickupboys have collaborated on a tune. Check it out. It popped up on my Spotify release feed today and will be available as an NFT in various places.
  • @risingstargame has been running for two years and now has 6500 players. There is a special card to mark the anniversary.
  • There was a post from @bladesong in the whisky community. You can create a community for any topic you want. You can do moderation to keep it usable.
  • I am also active in the drums community where @iyedrumz has posted a video. The admin for that one is absent, but we can still post there.
  • Congratulations to @dickturpin on becoming a grandfather. He and I have different opinions on a few things, but I wish his family well.

Those mentioned get a share of the post rewards.

The Doghouse

Votes

I have seen various people get worked up about some downvotes on their posts. Those are coming from some accounts that react when some of the big guns vote and can be identified by having the same name, but starting with an x. It is just someone trying to make a point about something, but those downvotes have no real power and cannot affect your reputation. I keep saying to people that Hive gives others freedom to be jerks. If you want the rewards you have to accept that freedom has costs. I have had hundreds of downvotes over the years, but I still make far more than I could anywhere else online, so it does not worry me. Why let it worry you?

OO

Meanwhile there was drama as someone decided to blank all their posts after receiving some downvotes for self-voting. The real answer was to stop being so antisocial and then they might have been able to earn again. I have seen someone say that self-votes are okay as the system allows it. You could do it sneakily anyway, so preventing it just with the code is nearly impossible, but the community still gets to decide what your rewards will be and if your actions seem selfish then you may lose some potential rewards. They are always potential until payout.

The End

I have been saying that I hope to see some meetups being organised this year. There will be one in Yorkshire in June. I will have to see if I can get there as it is a fairly long way to go. If you let me know of other events I will feature them in these posts.

Any time two or more Hivers get together is a meetup as far as I am concerned. Good things happen when they do.

Hive five!

I know a lot of people that self vote. I guess it just depends on how you are using it. If that is the only thing you use your vote for, I can see why it might rub some people the wrong way. If you are engaging and spreading your vote around, who really cares if you click on one of your own every now and then.

As with most things it is not black and white. I just decided it was not worth it to me. Why risk bad feeling when I do so well? I still earn if I vote for someone else. If your account were tiny then every penny may count, but for some of us we can afford to just help others. I don't want to be seen as selfish or greedy.

Oh, I get it. It is sad when some of the accounts get ganged up on and zero'ed, but usually if it is that extreme there is a good reason for it. Either in the initial behavior or the reaction.

Well it is totally up to others to decide what they want to do. I do downvote stuff, but I make my own judgements on what needs it.

(Edited)

I got a downvote from one of those xbots and thought to myself.
What kind of a tiny mind thinks these things up?

It's the same as those pesky conspiracy comment bots.

What the authors of those bots don't understand is that any interaction is good news for the websites SEO. LOL

PS I'm planning on going to the meetup up north.

Some people enjoy trolling and it costs them practically nothing. I just don't want people to get upset over it.

If there's a chance of car sharing to go to Halifax I could be up for that. I do have a gig the next day, so need to get back.

Yep trolling is just part of the internet that we have to ignore generally.

I was planning on doing a little tour up north as I wanted to get some drone shots and footage. Last time I was up there the weather was unsuitable for flying.

I could give you a lift up though. If that's any good?

Morning Steevc; I'm with you - continuing to power up the old hive; been able to power up a bit the last few days. The annoying thing about the volatility is the variable vote value - was enjoying having something a bit higher to earn a little bit more each day ;)

Thanks for the shoutout @steevc - and thanks for making me aware of the core dev proposal - have just voted. Keep up these helpful posts!
