Creating More Minnows

avatar

I have been running the @tenkminnows account for nearly three years, during which time it has helped lots of people achieve Hive Minnow status. A number of wonderful people delegate to the account to increase the rewards it can give. Despite this the number of Minnows has mostly dropped since Hive started. I would really like to try and turn that around.

You can see the number of accounts at each level in the daily statistics posts from @arcange.

I have made use of @hivesql and Python to produce a list of people who have almost levelled up. They all have current posts and are not powering down. The threshold for minnowhood is about 545 HP, so it really is just a matter of a few $HIVE in these cases. I did ignore some who are even closer as they will probably get there in a week or so anyway. I am hoping we can help a few people get there a little quicker.

This list does not judge people on their opinions or the quality of their posts. I leave it to you to decide which deserve a vote. I expect a lot of us are giving votes to people who already have a healthy stake, but I think that boosting more small accounts could be better for Hive as a whole even if we just do it now and then.

On a side note, I was listening to the Cryptomaniacs podcast where @taskmaster4450 was saying he keeps his voting power above 90% to maximise the power of his curation. I had been letting mine drop lower, but then it would never get back near 100%. I can generally vote through the day, so if I get it right it could be back at 100% each morning and then my vote can do more.

So here is the first edition of what I will call the #MinnowMaker list. I will distribute some votes to them and look to do this fairly frequently. I can make the code available if anyone wants it.

I wasn’t aware of this initiative, but it’s great! While my stake isn’t big Im dropping some votes. Every bit helps right? :-)

You mean @tenkminnows? Well it is a fairly small scale project, but I hope it makes a difference. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for this incredible incentive @steevc. I should have a higher HP based on my reputation. But I powered down awhile back, because my laptop, phone and ATM were stolen, click here to read my article about the event. It was a touch time, but I stopped because I knew I would regret it in the future, as HIVE has a very bright future ahead. Ever since then I have been building my HP back up and this incentive is very encouraging for content creators to keep doing what they love.

I can fully understand that some people need to power down to pay for what they need. I do what I can to support others as I think it's good for Hive.

I need to look at my delegations and maybe push some more towards this. It is a great project that you have been running all this time!

I think we more established Hivers need to look out for the 'small fry'. Hive really needs them to stick around. It cannot all be about our own personal gain if we want the platform to grow.

Thanks a lot.
Now I have less HP. I had to take out to buy pieces of my pc that were damaged.
My votes are not very good, but I always keep it at least above 80% and every day it charges to 100

I think using your Hive earnings to pay for things you need is great. It has helped you out. Just keep building.

People are free to be trolls on Hive. I don't let it bother me at all.

Definitely, I truly appreciate your upvote on my content. I've been on here for years and I rarely reach above 5HBD for my content. Glad to see there are some people out there still looking for some fresh accounts to help rise up. Thanks again!

Thank you. Just recently getting back into HIVE (after leaving STEEM a couple years ago).
Hopefully people will follow as I will consistently be putting content up that should appeal to many different tribes.
Rock on!

It is just a way of ranking accounts. If you look on Hivebuzz you will see you are nearly at a million VESTS, so could be a minnow soon. At 10 million you would be a dolphin. Have fun.

thank you. so it's like a rank - like gold, diamond, challenger? and what are vests? -> I already had the question before "what are vests !" - but I did not understand the explanation. 🤣

Vests are the internal representation of HP. We do not generally have to worry about them, but they were chosen as the basis for the ranks. The conversion rate varies as HP earns interest, but your vests will stay the same.

You need a billions vests to be a whale :)

@steevc how nice to feel the support of people who care about your progress, for me Hive has really been disconcerting for all that there is to learn, I try to strive day after day to be consistent and be someone who contributes significantly to the great ecosystem in which we are, either reading commenting or simply adding some valuable content, but it is wonderful to know that there are people who although we do not know are willing to give us a helping hand, so thank you very much for your great support

I think some people forget it is supposed to be social, but if we build the community it becomes better for everyone. It should not just be about personal gain. Good luck.

Hey @steevc really cool initiative for starters. I am already quite a few years on the blockchain and while I don't have that much HP I do a lot of other things that involve the blockchain (mostly gaming). So if you give me an upvote they are more than welcome and really appreciated. But you can definitely prioritize the other people in that list over me :). Cheers for doing this for the community

You are most welcome. I have done pretty well here and want to spread the love. Hive can be a better experience if we help each other.

such a good spirit you have at @steevc I'm probably barely a minnow myself, but I'll help best I can.

You are well past minnow and on your way to dolphin. We just need lots of people helping each other out to grow. I expect you find plenty of artists to support.

Awesome! If I payed better attention and knew you had set up this @tenkminnows for this purpose, I totally would have delegated sooner. I made a small delegation and will make sure that I set up an auto vote to follow the @tenkminnows vote.

Thank you for creating this post and making us aware of these important efforts toward creating a better Hive Environment. Love the idea you have going here! 😁

Thanks for the support. I do think it is worth doing such things. We do not want small accounts to give up.

No we don't want them to give up. I would like to see more accounts staking HP but unfortunately accounts like appreciator and other wales are voting accounts that turn right around and cash out. They don't give two craps about minnowhood or staking to benefit the blockchain as a whole. If you take some time and search out (which is tough sometimes) the accounts that are staking (at least a decent amount of staking), then a difference can be made. Leaches burn me up the most and get me so heated. I understand that some people make their primary living off of this cycle, but it gets harder and harder to keep the ball rolling when or if we would get a lot of cash out. Okay.. done ranting about that part.

It's a refreshing initiative and one I can really get behind. 😊

A couple of these people said they needed to power down before to pay for stuff and I am okay with that. I would prefer to see them doing 100% HP posts, but for many Hive is extra income they can use now. As long as they are increasing their HP I can give support. This is part of why I don't want to see a quicker power down. We need people with a stake in it.

No thanks dude. I think we parted ways in whatever that club was where you beat your brains out, what was it I can't recall, type so many letters, post, no upvoting your own...you got some sort of bonus points for each of those. We have a difference of opinion on something. Been so long I forgot what it was called. I got this far on my own beating my brains out I am content to just keep going myself. Maybe it was that APPICs or something debacle, I can't remember. Whatever. All I know is it hasn't been easy as it has been allowed by others or rigged by others, I've earned my right to get to that finish line myself and I'll be proud of that small accomplishment.
