Prairie Surfing - A Straturday Improvisation

▶️ Watch on 3Speak

Here's a little surf rock style jam for this #straturday. I decided to use a few of my electric guitars one for each track. In order of appearance they are my John Petrucci Musicman 7, home made partsocaster, Paul Reed Smith Hollowbody I, Gibson Les Paul, G&L ASAT, Fender Stratocaster Plus, G&L Comanche, G&L Fallout and my G&L ASAT Tribute. For guitar effects I used Bias FX 2 and Guitar Rig 6. Drums are via EZdrummer using a 60s vintage drum EZX. Thanks for listening :-) happy #straturday

Thanks for the guitar list to go with video. Based on sound I like the Stratocaster. Just for beauty I like the Hollowbody. Prairie Surfing I like it. Surf guitar with a little twang haha

The strat sound is from guitar rig 6 with a stereo plate reverb and a slow moving phaser also the lace sensor pickups are pretty nice on that guitar. The prs is one of my more expensive guitars, I even got it signed by Paul Reed Smith himself at a PRS event.

I still have a few other guitars not featured, Maybe I'll try a song with all my acoustics next. The partsocaster has the perfect setup and neck radius the only problem is the body is a bit heavy since I doubt it ever got dried out at the factory since it has a wood knot in it.

That would be so cool! I am thinking of making my own acoustic later this year, which would be great. I sure do love a perfect neck. I have recently purchased another Les Paul, as this is an older one and I like the thicker necks. I've had to start using 9's as I have a hand injury...
The (rosewood) neck is a little dry on this Les Paul, I'm thinking of trying to stain it safely so it looks more ebony. Wonder if doable...

Good luck on the acoustic, hopefully its not too tricky to put together. For les pauls it seems they do better with lighter strings anyway, the intonation seems to sound better on its shorter scale with 9s. I have no idea if staining rosewood would work... Rosewood seems a bit oily already so I wonder if stain would take?

Yes very true, I wonder if it will take. However, I'm not entirely sure it is is rose wood, could be nato or mahogany. It seems quite dry and quite a light brown colour. It still looks great, just compared to my 2016 Les Paul, this 2000 model looks like the neck is way lighter

Ah if its gibson it might some kind of roasted mahogany, how valuable is the guitar? If cheap you might just try it on one fret area

It's an Epiphone Les Paul Custom. I got this one for $320 NZD (around $210 USD?) so pretty cheap! It plays great too, sounds awesome. I do have a Gibson LP Classic but it is in storage in England! I have many lovely guitars stored in England. The cost to ship them here to NZ is quite high.. hence forming a mini collection here :)

x2 Les Paul Custsoms (one 2016 custom pro and one 2000 made in korea)
x1 LTD M10 juiced up with seymour duncans
x1 LTD SN200
x1 Cheap Chinese acoustic that I've had for years and travelled everywhere with!:)

in storage have a lovely Ibanez rg620, Gibson LP Classic, Jackson RR5, Tanglewood acoustic and a Columbus Crest (80's strat copy)

Ah if its a les paul epiphone give it a try. I suspect it might be a pau ferro fretboard.
