Hoy les mostraré como hacer nuestras propias velas en casa paso a paso. Si vives en Venezuela y sufres apagones constantes por las noches seguro que te será bastante útil este tutorial, lo mejor de todo es que lo haremos con materiales que tenemos en casa.

Comenzaré este tutorial hablando de las herramientas y materiales necesarios para la fabricación de esta vela artesanal, estos son:

MATERIALES

• Parafina reciclada de otras velas
• Barra de silicón
• Pabilo
• Cinta adhesiva
• Cartón en forma de tubo
• Trozo de cerámica

HERRAMINETAS

• Tijera
• Pistola para fundir silicón
• Pinza de ropa
• Envase metálico
• Alicate

I will begin this tutorial by talking about the tools and materials needed to make this handmade candle, these are:

MATERIALS

• Recycled kerosene from other candles
• Silicone rod
• Wick
• Adhesive tape
• Cardboard in the shape of a tube
• Ceramic scrap

TOOLS

• Scissors
• Silicone melting gun
• Clothespincer
• Metal container
• Pliers

Iniciamos los pasos de la siguiente manera, cortamos un trozo de pabilo con la ayuda de las tijeras, debe ser mas largo que el tubo de cartón, de esta manera tendremos sobrante de mecha por arriba y por abajo, lo cual nos facilitará el trabajo luego.

We start the steps as follows, we cut a piece of wick with the help of scissors, it must be longer than the cardboard tube, this way we will have wick left over at the top and at the bottom, which will facilitate our work later.

Segundo paso, fijaremos con un poco de cinta adhesiva el trozo de mecha sobre la superficie que nos servirá de base para nuestra vela, de esta forma al vaciar la parafina la mecha estará centrada.

Second step, we will fix with some adhesive tape the piece of wick on the surface that will serve as a base for our candle, in this way when emptying the kerosene the wick will be centered.

Tercer paso, pegamos con silicón caliente el tubo de cartón y la base de cerámica, nos aseguraremos de sellar muy bien la base del tubo de cartón, para que al momento de verter la parafina no se salga por la parte inferior.

Third step, we glue the cardboard tube and the ceramic base with hot silicone, we will make sure to seal the base of the cardboard tube very well, so that when pouring the kerosene does not come out from the bottom.

Cuarto paso, llenamos con parafina casi hasta el tope el recipiente de metal y lo pondremos en la hornilla de la cocina, encendemos el fuego y esperamos unos minutos para que se derrita a fuego bajo, también podemos derretir la parafina en baño de maría, solo que tardará un poco más de tiempo.

Fourth step, fill the metal container almost to the top with kerosene and put it on the stove, turn on the fire and wait a few minutes for it to melt over low heat, we can also melt the kerosene wax in a water bath, but it will take a little longer.

Quinto paso, apagamos el fuego y esperamos unos cuantos minutos para que baje la temperatura del liquido.

Fifth step, turn off the heat and wait a few minutes for the liquid to cool down.

Sexto paso, sujetamos el recipiente de metal con la ayuda del alicate para no quemarnos y vertemos la cera de parafina sobre nuestro molde fabricado con anterioridad.

Sixth step, we hold the metal container with the help of the pliers so as not to burn ourselves and pour the kerosene wax over our previously made mold.

Séptimo paso, estiramos un poco la mecha hacia arriba, al mismo tiempo que la centramos y fijamos con la ayuda de una pinza para ropa, luego dejamos que la cera se enfríe un poco más, aproximadamente unos 5 minutos.

Seventh step, stretch the wick upwards a little, while centering it and fixing it with the help of a clothespin, then let the wax cool down a little more, approximately 5 minutes.

Octavo paso, para acelerar el proceso de enfriamiento sumergimos el molde en agua, evitando que entre el agua en este ultimo, lo dejaremos allí hasta que solidifique lo suficiente, aproximadamente 30 minuto. Si notamos que la cera se compacta mucho y vemos que se forman agujeros en la cera, podemos derretir un poco mas de cera y verter la cantidad suficiente hasta llegar al tope del molde.

Eighth step, to accelerate the cooling process we submerge the mold in water, avoiding the water to enter the mold, we will leave it there until it solidifies enough, approximately 30 minutes. If we notice that the wax becomes very compact and we see that holes form in the wax, we can melt a little more wax and pour enough to reach the top of the mold.

Noveno paso, una vez que ya ha solidificado nuestra vela, la sacamos del agua y retiramos la pinza que sujeta la mecha.

Ninth step, once our candle has solidified, we take it out of the water and remove the clamp that holds the wick.

Y finalmente para el décimo paso, desmoldamos nuestra vela, cortamos la mecha sobrante, revisamos que no tenga agujeros inesperados y si lo deseamos podemos suavizar los bordes irregulares con la ayuda de un cuchillo o un encendedor.

And finally for the tenth step, we unmold our candle, cut the excess wick, check for unexpected holes and if we wish we can smooth the irregular edges with the help of a knife or a lighter.

Y así se verá nuestra vela ya encendida, lista para alumbrar nuestros espacios en las noches oscuras sin electricidad.

And this is how our candle will look already lit, ready to light our spaces in the dark nights without electricity.
