Shock — An unexpected event that happened recently.

Have you ever written a post somewhere and mistakenly got deleted due to your impatience or was unintentional? How did you feel? How did you react afterwards? Did your mood change instantly? The truth is, many of us have gone through this traumatic event in our lives and we have no choice but to accept what has happened, and then what? We move on or we either give up, it's left to us.

You are mad at yourself for not being patient and being in a hurry. You feel frustrated that you wouldn't want anyone to disturb you at that moment. You start feeling disappointed and reluctant at first not to try again because the ideas you penned down are beautiful, and getting them back feels impossible.

I have been there many times and in fact, I was such an ignorant Hivian who never thought Peakd could have a saved draft, as I thought everything I have written and been erased had gone completely. It was until after my first year on Hive that I discovered every content I thought had been lost had been saved. When I knew, I just laughed at my stupidity. It was so funny and I just make a mockery of myself, but it's part of learning.

Something happened to me on Monday which was three days ago. I used to write a post the previous night so that it would be easier for me to post early before engaging. I was so weak throughout Sunday after returning from Church that I decided to wake up very early on Monday to write my post and target 8 am when I should submit it. I was to write in the Hive Learners community for the first edition.

As I planned, I woke up very early at 5 am, prayed to God, read a chapter of my novel, did my chores and took my bath. Then, work started by typing. The topic was all about babies and our experience when they took their first step. I had ideas flowing in my head, it was as if those ideas should appear like magic while I edit but it wasn't possible. I made sure nothing was distracting me.

Something I used to do is type on my phone using Peakd frontend while I do the editing and proofreading using my laptop before I post except on days my laptop is down and there is no light, I just make use of my phone to finish the touching before submitting.

Seriously I had written great ideas I was satisfied with. I was happy with myself as I kept reading word for word, to check and eliminate the mistakes in my content. This time around, I was using my system to detect any errors while every other thing have been added, including downloading and designing my image on Canva.

It was time to publish it. I typed and wanted to copy all content to Ecency page to post with. I already copied the title from Peakd to Ecency and I was about to use Ctrl-A to select all content and copy and paste it to Ecency when the unexpected happened. After selecting all content using the keyboard shortcut, instead of using Ctrl C which is to copy, I pressed V which is paste. The content was gone while the title I already copied to Ecency was pasted back. The content was gone.

My head spun for some seconds. My eyes were opened in shock. I couldn't believe what just happened. I shouted, “no no no, it can't be”. Immediately, I was disturbed. I wanted to cry because I am this emotional person. My eyes got teary because, at that moment, I remembered how sweet and interesting my ideas were. Everything went blank. There was nothing to process in my head. I tried finding ways to retrieve them back but I couldn't. I got angry and blamed myself for such an unrecoverable mistake.

I heaved a sigh and said, “the deed has been done”. I wouldn't meet up with the time I supposed and I resorted to making new content, but as soon as I accepted my fate and placed my fingers on my keyboard, ready to start writing and trying to recover some of my ideas, nothing was coming forth. I went blank immediately. I went back to start thinking how it happened but I couldn't do anything.

After a few minutes of pitying myself, something told me to pick up my phone to type with because I am not fast at typing on my laptop, but with my phone, I am a machine. Lol
As I unlocked my phone with my fingerprint, I saw that I didn't close the Peakd page and that my lost content was there. One thing about my phone is that when I am online and the screen light goes off, once I unlock it, it would refresh itself and would start from the beginning but I was shocked that my phone didn't refresh itself. Another thing about my phone is that sometimes it malfunctions itself, erasing stuff I had on it. But, nothing of such happened.

When I saw the content I had thought was lost in my system, I quickly and hurriedly selected all and copied it, then went to paste it into another notepad just to be sure it hasn't gone completely. When I was sure, I copied to Ecency and I was relieved. My anger subsided and the disappointed face cleared off. I was so happy that morning that, what I thought had gone forever wasn't lost because my phone chose to be normal for me considering how I was in a bad mood and unhappy.

In the end, what turned into a shock became a relief to me. I just couldn't imagine how to start afresh and get those ideas back again. It is not easy but we just have to be careful and patient when typing.

Thanks for your time on my blog.

This happened to me on read.cash, then happened here on Hive for the second time. In the first one I still recover it by tapping the back button of my phone. The blank space due to the mistake of deleting it all was not save yet that when I tap the back button the text appear again after reloading, thanks heaven I tap the back button. But on the second one I couldn'g do anything about it anymore. It is completely gone and I had no choice but to retype. I am so mad to myself that time because of impatience too that it got deleted tsk tsk

Hahahaha... It happens to most people and it is most times caused by our impatience. It´s always painful and at that moment, we get mad at ourselves.
Thank you for sharing your experience too.

I want to shake with anger tbh haha but nothing will happen if I do that so even if I'm really mad, no choice but to tyoe again from the top. Whats annoying is it is not as good as to the first one I wrote 😭😭

😂😂😂 that is the problem. Those ideas would be gone and trying to start all over again might not be good as the first one.

This was funny. But its a great experience. You had a way out after having a feeling of it. I think we do our best when obstacles come. We learn and evolve in the best way. Thanks for telling us this.

We will do our best to prevent future occurrences too.😂😂

That feeling where your hard work get erased. I've been there and it's a friend that suggested I used the 'undo' button since I use my phone to type. Did your try using the cntrl z command? Maybe it would have worked.

I'm glad your phone did not misbehave at the time you needed it the most.

I never thought of Ctrl Z then when I was so mad at myself making me not to look at that side of it. I think I would just need to stay calm when such happen again. Thank you, wongi 😎

I’m so glad that you were able to recover it.

It happens like that and the pain that comes with it.. is baddd.
Most times I really don’t like to rewrite because I won’t even feel the vibe. I just try to see if I can get it again.

Have you ever written a post somewhere and mistakenly got deleted due to your impatience or was unintentional?

I have done it many times. And at the time I really felt angry and blamed me..it gave me a very bad and irritated feeling..

instead of using Ctrl C which is to copy, I pressed V which is paste.

I have done that mistake also. In the case you can immediately press Ctrl+Z at the same time. Everything will be back immediately. You can make a try now..

Do you know my mind never went to Ctrl Z which is to undo? Hehehe. I think I was just too angry and blaming myself and not being calm to remember that.
Thanks so much for this.

Sometimes it happen. Because of our angerness we can't remember silly things also which can be the solution of it. I am sure that you won't forget about it in the future 😅.

Haha I would react the same. I am also an emotional person. I react instantly in that same manner than be calm and think of a solution.

Hehehe. We all do but it doesn't change what has happened. This is what I remind myself of and would either give up or find a solution, it's a choice left to choose.

It's always sad and hurting to lose words you have crafted with beautiful ideas in your head. Thanks for your comment.

It always happened to me everytime. I am not literate when it comes to computer and all I could do everytime was to curse and get mad at myself for being so ignorant, lol! But that was before, i've learned a lot now especially my daughter's major in school is Computer so she helps me everytime.

That's great. We all do make such mistakes and we keep learning to get better at it. Your daughter would definitely help you learn more about computer now.

Have experienced this a lot when writing and I normally just give up maybe because I don’t use peakd to type I prefer using WPS and once I mistakenly erase it, that’s the end of everything.... one thing I learn reading your post it to always get back up when you down, funny thing is you might thing you have fell to the ground totally whine you are still hanging on a edge, because had it been you didn’t summon the courage to write back instantly you won’t see that your phone hasn’t refresh yet.

That thing hurt so much 😆😆 it's not easy wanting to start afresh when you have written down amazing ideas and trying to get them back feels daunting. But you have no choice when you need to post on your blog without leaving it empty for that day.

Thank God my phone wasn't refreshed at that time. Besides, it didn't occur to me to use the Ctrl Z to undo what has been lost until some people suggested it in case of next time. Thanks for reading.
