Best place when the sun blazes at 34 degrees Celsius.

Yep, it's hot as you can see her tongue hanging out.

I am talking about the river with it's cold clear water coming off the mountain springs. No doctor can prescribe better medicine than to place your bare feet into an ice cold mountain river during times of severe heat. It sends a sensational feeling up your spine.
So without further ado, let me show you how to escape the heat.

Keep an eye on that willow tree at the right hanging over in the water, as it has a very special spot beneath it.

See the little yellow cross at the right?
That's my spot to sit with my feet in the refreshing water.

Of course one has to sit very still as then the small river trout fish will appear in the sun spots below the willow branches.

Now and then a spider will descend from a branch above and land on your head, or in your neck, but you don't want the fish to disappear so with a very slow movement of your hand, you can simply wipe the spider away.

There are also many other creeping things in the grass, so one just has to glance around from time to time in case it is poisonous, such as a scorpion and such.

When I was younger I would strip down to my jocks and swim in that river in no time. Long ago as a child on our farm I even made friends in the river with a wild otter, but sadly nowadays I can only get my feet into the river.
Besides, something might fall off if I were to lie on my back in that cold water. This is what age does to one ?
Don't laugh, as your time will come.

It will be a while before our little family can go for our usual nature walks again. With Claire's knee injury it will take a couple of months. She is getting better, but consider that we will be hiring a wheelchair today to do Christmas shopping together...

I love the comment about the spider. Something I try to encourage in the boys is to be quiet when we go up the mountain. You just see and hear so much more if you use a bit of stillness.

Amazing as I cancelled my left knee replacement operation 2 months ago. The Med Aid would pay for the hospital, but they won't pay the R40,000 for the new knee.

What happened with Claire's knee? Bad news?

Oh yes, that's why I move like a ghost in nature. The ghost of a cougar, silent and ready to strike with my camera. Good that you are teaching the boys silence in nature. Not easy I know, as kids will always be kids , but when they see something great because of their silence, it will leave a lasting impression.

Claire is going to be alright. She twisted and it stretched the medial ligament. So she'll just need to take it easy for 3-6 months. I got her a good knee brace with the hinges on the sides and that has helped a lot.

Sorry to hear about your knee... that is seriously expensive.

Oh yes, she has to take it easy as that can become a big problem in the future.
So no dancing this Christmas 😉

Funny that @zakludick also popped up again at exactly the same time after 3 years.

Those are all baby trout and when they grow up, they move further up river towards the mountain pools.

Yeah, just testing the waters at the moment. I'll likely get into posting again but for now just feeling my way around. @lizelle told me it's a better space :) I'll have to work on my HTML skills again though, haha. It's nice to see how well some of the accounts have grown though. Very inspiring!
