Voice for the voiceless.

Hello, everyone.

Welcome to my blog and another wonderful edition of the Hive Learners' featured post. At some point in our lives, we are forced to take actions we never intend or plan to take. Some people are built in such a way that they cannot stand and watch others suffer oppression, especially if they can do something about it or fight their oppressors.

In most cases, standing up for someone who cannot do it for himself or herself is not easy. It's a fight many don't want to engage in, but not everyone can watch one undergo oppression and do nothing about it. In most cases, speaking for the voiceless can result in violence, even if we did not intend for it to reach that level. Some oppressors are stubborn and won't back out without a fight.

During my junior secondary school days, I suffered at the hands of one bully called Dennis. He was the biggest in our class, and everyone feared him. It gave him the right to pick on anyone he liked, and I was one of those he always picked on because I was very small during my junior secondary school days, and no one even believes my age when I tell them. Suffering at the hands of a bully in school is one of the tortures any child should not be allowed to go through.

Every morning, I wake up, and I don't have the motivation to go to school because I am scared of what Dennis has installed for me. Suffering under the hands of a bully is something I don't want anyone to experience because it leaves a mark, and if care is not taken, the victim suffers trauma afterwards. It took me time to get over the pain and humiliation Dennis put me through. Today, every bully in sight I try to fight off if I can.

When I got to senior secondary school, I made friends, and we became like a gang, and we fought for each other. This helped me gain a little fame in school, with no one wanting to tamper with me because of what comes later. Now I wish Dennis was around so I could fight back, at least. I couldn't fight Dennis, but a younger student named John had one of my classmates bullying and picking on him, and it got to my attention. I stepped up to him and asked him to stop bullying the little boy.

After school that day, he came to fight me, but I was disappointed when my friends stepped in and warned him to stay away from the little boy too. That's how John and I became friends, though he was a junior student, but to date we still keep in touch. I had no one to speak up for me against Dennis, but I am glad I was able to fight for John. At least he won't have to suffer the pain that comes with remembering the humiliation a bully puts one through.

How this affected us.

  • I gained a new friend that day, and he has been a source of inspiration to me since then. He supports me.

  • I lost touch with many of my friends back then, but not with John. Even when I do not reciprocate the energy, he's still interested, so we keep in touch.

Thanks for reading my post.

It is good to give our voice to the voiceless, they are confined to people who do that, bullying is very bad and needs to be eradicated in our society

Many students suffer from the hands of a bully but can't speak up and has no one to speak up for them. It has to be eradicated indeed.

Thank God I didn't face bully in school maybe because I was huge too because bully has great effect on someone. Can make someone grow to have low self-esteem and that's very bad

When you help someone solve a problem, they barely forget you. I hate bullies too, and I almost wished you had the opportunity to fight that Denis of a guy but then, it's not everything that is resolved through violence. You did well by helping the young man.

It's good that you made a difference in your time even though you had nobody to help out when you were in junior class. The circle didn't have to continue

Someone just had to step in, each time I remember how it was for me I don't wish for another to experience such.

Bullying is never good, I keep wondering why kids do it.

Glad you found a way to stand up for yourself by making a group friend, and also saving John from passing through the awful act.

Poor people who happen to be too scared and can't speak up for themselves, so we all need to look around and help all such people so that they too can live a good life. Since we have been living and you have helped them, I am very happy to see that now they will have confidence and they will help themselves next time.
