Writing help

  • A free app: Grammarly. A lot of us are not native English speakers and I am finding it a helpful app. It will underline spelling and grammar mistakes. Remember that it is not always right -especially if you use complex sentence structures. Here is the link

  • Remember The Most Dangerous Writing App. You set the time - 5 min - and start typing. Don’t stop!!! It will destroy what you wrote if you stop for more than 3 seconds - and backspace does not count as writing on the app. If you are prone to stop and think - this app forces you to keep going. You can make corrections after the 5 minutes are over.

  • A timer. Egg timer is a free tool you can use on your desktop to set a time. This is useful for our freewrites or if you want to work in blocks of time and then take a break. Here is the link

  • I found this app through @emwalker. Use it regularly and it will help you type faster and more accurately. [10 fast fingers](https://10fastfingers.com/typing-test/english

Hello, just started writing on here! Is there anything that I need to know about this group? The discord invite link above is not working.

Not really much to know. I don't think that anyone is active on Discord right now. We do a lot of fun contests at the Freewrite house. I publish a daily prompt here and you can leave a link to your Freewrite here.
We have very few rules - be nice to each other, publish your own writing - and have fun.
We make no judgments on good or bad since just the process of writing is good. Freewriting, especially if you use the Most Dangerous Writing app, makes you let go of the inner critic and just write what comes to mind. Some days, that might just be: I don't know what to write, other days, something great will result :)
Welcome to the Freewriters.

I was first drawn to the idea of freewriting because it allows us to have this unrestrained and free flowing avenue in which to write whatever comes to mind. I have always wanted to write purely for the joy it brings me to imagine places, scenes and people that encounter extraordinary situations. For me at least, the hesitation to share written work usually refers to being unwilling and sometimes unable to follow what are considered the typical 'rules of writing'. At least when it comes to practice work. There are so many ideas trapped inside this head of mine, and they usually stay there because I do not have a knack for writing dialogue and telling is sometimes easier than showing - at least when it comes to the initial ideas phase. I am very happy to have found this space. Thank you very much for the welcome :)
