De latita vieja a multiuso (Es –En)

“Hoy es un buen día para comenzar…” como dice la canción de Ricardo Arjona, y es muy cierto. Algunas personas, entre las cuales me incluyo, dejamos todo para después. Sin darnos cuenta de que se pierden muchas oportunidades. Pero, también es un buen día para: sonreír, inventar, crear, amar, tomar café, hacer manualidades, cortar papel, tejer, bordar y, en mi caso, lo que me gusta: florecitas de tela. En fin, todo lo que deseamos, pues nada lo impide.

Allá afuera hay un mundo que espera ver lo que hacemos con nuestras manos. Quizás, seas una creadora de lindas cositas y ni siquiera lo sabes. Inténtalo, pues te puedes asombrar de lo que eres capaz. Yo nunca me imaginé que pudiese hacer algo bonito, pues siempre me consideré una mujer desabrida y rústica. Sin embargo, descubrí que sí puedo hacer “cositas” lindas cuando me lo propongo. Sobre todo, si lo hago con todo mi amor y pasión.

Amigas que navegan por este mundo de #Hive, les invito a intentar hacer una manualidad, pues quizás dentro de ustedes esté escondida una gran artesana capaz de hacer “cositas” maravillosas. Les diré que mi hijo y Esposito me tienen miedo, pues jeans que encuentre en el camino, con cierre roto y descosido, los utilizo para transformarlo en algo de utilidad. Esta tela la reutilizo porque es muy versátil.

Como hoy es un buen día, les traigo para compartir en #HiveDiy el paso a paso de ¿cómo convertir un potecito, corotico o latica vieja y oxidada en un envase multiuso? Es muy fácil; lo único que tienen que hacer, es tener paciencia, ser creativas y poner el corazón.

Some people—myself included—put everything off until later, without realizing that we’re missing out on many opportunities. But it’s also a good day to: smile, invent, create, love, drink coffee, do crafts, cut paper, knit, embroider, and, in my case, do what I love: little fabric flowers. In short, anything we want—because nothing is stopping us.
Out there, there’s a world waiting to see what we can do with our hands. Maybe you’re a creator of beautiful little things and you don’t even know it. Give it a try—you might be amazed at what you’re capable of. I never imagined I could make anything beautiful, since I always considered myself a plain, down-to-earth woman. However, I discovered that I can indeed make lovely “little things” when I set my mind to it—especially when I do it with all my love and passion.
Friends who are exploring this world of #Hive, I invite you to try your hand at a craft project, because perhaps hidden inside you is a great artisan capable of making wonderful “little things.” I’ll tell you that my son and Esposito are afraid of me, because any jeans I find lying around—with broken zippers and frayed seams—I use to transform them into something useful. I reuse this fabric because it’s so versatile.
Since today is a great day, I’m sharing a step-by-step guide on #HiveDiy on how to turn a small pot, jar, or old, rusty tin can into a multipurpose container. It’s very easy; all you have to do is be patient, get creative, and put your heart into it.

Las latas, los corotos viejos que no se utilizan y están ocupando espacios. También los potes plásticos rotos y perforados; son excelentes para reutilizar y hacer envases multiusos. Con pedazos de tela y silicón pueden transformarlo en un porta de todo: lápices, pinceles, creyones, lápices, pinturas de uñas, cepillos de peinar, colitas del pelo, y otros. La idea es reutilizar y darle otra vida útil, con lo cual se pone un granito de arena para preservar el ambiente.

Este envase multiuso le servirá para guardar todo lo que deseen y el tamaño va a depender de su necesidad. En esta oportunidad visité a mi amiga Sol con la misión de tertuliar y hacer florecitas de tela y otras cositas que después les traeré. Ella iba a botar unos coroticos viejos y oxidados. Tenía en un rincón una pequeña lata de salchichas. Ella me vio y yo la vi y nos enamoramos a primera vista. Decidí transformarlo en un envase multiusos.

Aunque no lo crean, hice magia con pocos materiales y nada costosos, pues los tenía en mi bolsa de telas. Por eso el que guarda siempre encuentra. El proyecto lo realicé con pedacitos de tela de un pantalón vaquero, tela roja con pepas blancas pequeñas. También usé hilo de ratón blanco y rojo, y dos rollos de papel higiénico. Por supuesto, no puede faltar la taza de café, los videos de salsa con los Pikis y mi arma mortal, la pistola de silicón.

Cans and old, unused containers that are just taking up space—as well as broken and punctured plastic containers—are excellent for reusing and turning into multipurpose storage containers. With pieces of fabric and silicone, you can transform them into holders for just about anything: pencils, paintbrushes, crayons, nail polish, hairbrushes, hair ties, and more. The idea is to reuse them and give them a new lease on life, thereby doing our part to preserve the environment.
This multipurpose container will help you store whatever you want, and the size will depend on your needs. This time, I visited my friend Sol with the goal of catching up and making little fabric flowers and other little things that I’ll show you later. She was about to throw away some old, rusty cans. In a corner, she had a small sausage can. She saw me, I saw her, and we fell in love at first sight. I decided to turn it into a multipurpose container.
Believe it or not, I worked some magic with just a few inexpensive materials—I already had them in my fabric bag. That’s why those who save always find what they need. I made this project using scraps of denim from a pair of jeans and red fabric with tiny white polka dots. I also used white and red embroidery floss and two toilet paper rolls. Of course, I couldn’t do without my cup of coffee, the salsa videos with the Pikis, and my secret weapon: the hot glue gun.

Paso 1: Medí la de jeans y corte. Pegue con silicona caliente. Lo envolví como un tamal mexicano o una hallaca venezolana por fuera.

Step 1: I measured the denim and cut it. I glued it with hot glue. I wrapped it like a Mexican tamale or a Venezuelan hallaca on the outside.

Flor de tela

Paso 2: Hice una flor pequeña de cinco pétalos con la tela roja de pepitas blancas, con el centro blanco. El tutorial para hacer la flor de tela lo pueden ver en mis publicaciones.

Fabric Flower
Step 2: I made a small, five-petaled flower out of the red fabric with white dots, with a white center. You can find the tutorial for making the fabric flower in my posts.

Paso 3: Pegue los extremos y metí la tela por dentro hasta que cubriera y quedara ajustada. Corté todo lo que sobraba.

Step 3: Glue the ends together and tuck the fabric inside until it was covered and fit snugly. I cut off any excess fabric.

Paso 4: Corte dos círculos, uno con cartón de papel higiénico para tapar la parte de abajo por dentro. Otro con cartulina normal y la pegué en la parte de abajo por fuera de la lata. Cabe destacar que se me olvidó forrar el círculo de la parte externa. El círculo que coloqué en la parte interna lo forré con tela azul rey.

Tips: Si ustedes desean, pueden forrar las tapas para que se vean más delicadas.

Step 4: Cut out two circles—one from toilet paper tube cardboard to cover the bottom on the inside, and another from regular cardstock, which I glued to the outside bottom of the can. It’s worth noting that I forgot to cover the circle on the outside. I covered the circle I placed on the inside with royal blue fabric.
Tips: If you’d like, you can line the lids to make them look more elegant.

Paso 5: Corte 2 cm de tela roja de pepas blancas y pegue en la parte de abajo. También pegué hilo de ratón blanco. En la parte de arriba pegue hilo de ratón rojo, cinta blanca translúcida y el lazo de tela. (Ver paso 2, la elaboración de la flor).

Step 5: Cut a 2-cm piece of red fabric with white polka dots and glue it to the bottom. I also glued white craft twine. At the top, I glued red craft twine, translucent white ribbon, and the fabric bow. (See Step 2 for instructions on making the flower.)

Se hizo la magia; aunque no lo crean, somos capaces de dejar volar nuestra imaginación y crear lindas “cositas” con materiales usados y darles otra vida útil, con tan solo una lata vieja y oxidada y tela de vaquero viejo y otros pequeños detalles.

En esta oportunidad, un envase multiuso para colocar flores de tela, lapiceros y lo que ustedes deseen.

The magic happened; believe it or not, we can let our imaginations run wild and create cute “little things” out of used materials, giving them a new lease on life—with just an old, rusty can, some old denim, and a few other small details.
This time, we’ve made a multipurpose container for fabric flowers, pens, and whatever else you’d like.

Hacer cositas con las manos y reciclar, reutilizar y customizar son algunas manera alcanzar el equilibrio y bienestar, pues estas actividades calman las ansiedades, disminuyen el cortisol y bajan la frecuencia cardiaca. Sobre todo, no olvides que una mente serena es capaz de enfrentar y resolver muchos problemas.

A mí particularmente me funciona hacer florecitas de telas. Por esta razón, te invito a realizar trabajos manuales y verás los cambios. No botes basura que tarda años en descomponerse, sobre todo los plásticos, latas de aluminio, vidrio, entre otros; es preferible que reutilices.

Making little things with your hands, as well as recycling, reusing, and customizing, are some ways to achieve balance and well-being, since these activities calm anxiety, lower cortisol levels, and slow your heart rate.
