Walk between history and hope [en/es]

I'm joining my friend @tattoodjay for the beautiful #wednesdaywalk challenge with a very special stop, in Mariana Grajales Park, in the heart of Vedado, on the central 23rd Street between C and D. This space is a green lung for Havana, a place full of memories and dignity, a corner where history has the strength of a mother.

Me uno al hermoso reto #wednesdaywalk de mi amigo @tattoodjay con una parada muy especial en el Parque Mariana Grajales, en pleno Vedado, en la céntrica calle 23 entre C y D. Este espacio es un pulmón verde para La Habana, un lugar lleno de recuerdos y dignidad, un rincón donde la historia tiene la fuerza de una madre.

Mariana Grajales, a symbol of unwavering courage, appears atop the monument overlooking the park, standing tall with a firm gaze and a resolute expression. At her side, one of her sons (still a child) accompanies her, his hand on her shoulder and the other extended forward, as if pointing to an inevitable destiny: the fight for freedom. Mother of the Bronze Titan, Antonio Maceo, and other warriors of independence, Mariana was a combatant. She is the living image of the feminine strength that drives history forward through love and sacrifice.

Mariana Grajales, símbolo de valentía inquebrantable, aparece en lo alto del monumento que domina el parque, erguida, con mirada firme y expresión resuelta. A su lado, uno de sus hijos (aún un niño) la acompaña, con la mano sobre su hombro y la otra extendida hacia adelante, como señalando un destino inevitable: la lucha por la libertad. Madre del Titán de Bronce, Antonio Maceo, y otros guerreros de la independencia, Mariana fue combatiente. Es la viva imagen de la fuerza femenina que impulsa la historia a través del amor y el sacrificio.

The park entrance is guarded by two white stone lions, standing on blue pedestals that give them an imposing presence. Beyond them, two additional figures emerge, almost hidden among the vegetation, like silent sentinels of a space inviting relaxation. This sculptural composition embellishes the park's entrance, suggesting a symbolic threshold between the city and a space of calm and history.

La entrada del parque está custodiada por dos leones de piedra blanca, sobre pedestales azules que les confieren una presencia imponente. Más allá, dos figuras adicionales emergen, casi ocultas entre la vegetación, como silenciosos centinelas de un espacio que invita a la relajación. Esta composición escultórica embellece la entrada del parque, sugiriendo un umbral simbólico entre la ciudad y un espacio de calma e historia.

The park is as beautiful as it is symbolic. The vegetation caresses the air with its cool shadows; there are benches inviting you to rest, paths that whisper stories as you walk, and corners where silence seems to pay homage. Walking through it is also a reflection: in every leaf, in every root, vibrates the memory of those who dreamed of a free Cuba.

And as if the past needed to embrace the future, right at the end of the park stands the Saúl Delgado High School. This closeness moves me. It's as if Mariana, from her pedestal, watches over these young generations who are formed day by day.

El parque es tan hermoso como simbólico. La vegetación acaricia el aire con sus frescas sombras; hay bancos que invitan al descanso, senderos que susurran historias al caminar y rincones donde el silencio parece rendir homenaje. Recorrerlo es también una reflexión: en cada hoja, en cada raíz, vibra el recuerdo de quienes soñaron con una Cuba libre.
Y como si el pasado necesitara abrazar el futuro, justo al final del parque se alza la Escuela Secundaria Saúl Delgado. Esta cercanía me conmueve. Es como si Mariana, desde su pedestal, velara por estas jóvenes generaciones que se forman día a día.

This walk was emotional. I felt the whisper of the trees and the lullaby of a mother who never stopped fighting. As I captured these images, I thought: how beautiful it is to live in a city where parks also tell stories.

Este paseo ha sido emotivo. Sentí el susurro de los árboles y la canción de cuna de una madre que nunca dejó de luchar. Y mientras capturaba estas imágenes, pensé: qué hermoso es vivir en una ciudad donde los parques también cuentan historias.
