When 2 days ago wiang chai khiri wong temple has a great merit-making tradition to celebrate the temple. ุThe temple holds this tradition for 3 days and today is the last temple of this tradition. Wiang chai khiri wong temple is the village temple of dong mittraphap village. This village is beside the village where I live. So today my wife and I went to make merit and pay homage to the buddha images at this temple in the afternoon. After this morning, we took our granddaughter to play in a small amusement park and shopping at Lotus.

The great merit making tradition is a tradition in the north of Thailand. Northern people call this tradition Poi Luang. Poi Luang is a tradition to make merit to celebrate architecture and sculptures and temple such as sanctuary, chapel, temple pavilions, buddha images, and others, which villagers cooperate and help complete the construction. When the temple was built and everything was complete. The temple will have a great merit making to celebrate the temple. Therefore, each temple can hold this tradition and celebrate the temple only once, When the temple was built everything was complete.

Poi Luang tradition is held around February - May depending on the readiness of the temple. This year, many temples held the Poi Luang tradition. And this year wiang chai khiri wong temple built the ubosot, viharn and all other completed. The temple therefore held the Poi Luang tradition to celebrate the temple.

Me and my wife make merit by hanging a flag tied with a string in front of the pagoda. Which this flag in the middle is plastic with a money compartment. This religious ceremony is to pay respect to the pagoda and bring money to renovate the temple in the future. This type of flag, northern people call it Tung. Tung is therefore another kind of flag of the northern of Thailand.

Since today there is a traditional ceremony, the chapel of this temple is open for people who come to pay homage to the principal buddha image of this temple. So we have a chance to enter the chapel to pay homage the principal buddha image of the temple. And pay homage to other buddha images too.

Poi Luang tradition of this temple, besides the great merit-making, there are many entertainment. Such as Thai traditional dramatic performance (Li Ke), sing traditional northern thai songs, play a Thai musical instruments and many others. But most of the shows are at night. There is only thai traditional dramatic performance (Li Ke) this afternoon.

In addition, there are also many shops selling to people attending the Poi Luang tradition within the temple area. But most of the shops are open at night. I bought sweets, green tea, fried meatballs and sausages to eat with my wife and kids in the afternoon.
