Spending the afternoon in Agios Nikitas beach

When you arrive at an island wherever in the world and have acclimatised for a bit, only then it feels like it is time to go for some exploring of the place.

For the island of Lefkas the option to explore get a lot easier when you decide to rent a car, which had more than reasonable prices at then moment. The price of a car for a couple of days, was currently the same as renting a car for in 1 in some other countries. I'd call that a good deal!

Also the option of public transportation which is not really a big thing on the island of Lefkas, and the presence of ultra steep roads in the inlands also don't make this place the best option for for instance riding a bike. A small car it is!

And where does that small car bring you then when you have zero plans? Zero plans and still a bit of low season gives endless options as I ended up in the small town of Agios Nikitas, which also has a super nice beach at the end of the town., when you follow the (car free) road down.

The location

Agios Nikitas is located on the North West side of the island of Lefkas, and is situated in a small bay. This makes it a lot more protected from the natural elements than the other places on the west side of the island, where the sea really steals some land eating away the cliffs every now and then.

Agios Nikitas doesn't have those issues, the water is super calm and perfectly flat here.

The beach here is small and not that big. So in high season and especially in weekends when locals are also heading out, I am not sure if this is the place to be then, since there is limited space.

Also the lack of shade makes sheltering and using the shade from the buildings not a bad idea at all. If you want your own shade, you should surely bring an umbrella yourself as nothing is rented out here (which is a good thing)

The water

The beach here is with small pebbles and not with sand which is not always that attractive to your feet while walking over it (water shoes fix this instantly actually), but on the other hand it does give the most clear seas that exist.

This water is like looking through a glass. Pristine!

The best thing here? Taking an ice coffee (freddo cappuchino) at one of the places on the main road down, or just having a decent lunch with some of the best Greek snacks. Don't step into the tourist trap though here, they really want to serve you fries with everything which makes no sense at all.

The birds

At one of these places I saw a small bird (I guess a swallow) flying in and out of the place the whole time and I decided to take a look where he was heading.

I guess it is breeding season because there were all kinds of swallow nests here with actual one ones inside there.

You can recognize the swallow nest because of the half round shape usually in a corner somewhere. The nest is made by spit from the birds and actually is a delicacy in Vietnam I think,

Nothing on that for these birds, they were just happily breeding!

Actually I really enjoyed spending some time in this small town here as it was so chill and laid back in the pre season.

But as said...think about your timing towards here, and also because it is so small, I am not sure that this is place to spend a whole week or so here, but who spends a whole week anywhere ;)

Snorkling, supping, droning, windsurfing, all of that was done here, and Agios Nikitas was just the beauty to provide it all.

That is a beautiful beach and the water is so clear. The pebbles are a nice touch I just hope it doesn't hurt much on the feet.
