Asean Hive Community Challenge #40 Family Recipes My Entry

Hello everybody,

The other day that was morning I went to our neighbor's store about 200 meters away from our house, I bought soy sauce for the dogs food.Timely the owner of the store bought sucking shells that the man was offering. When I saw it I remembered my late mother cooked this kind of shell we call it "Sosoh" meaning sucking shell.

This was the vendor, he first cut the tails of the shell of what I bought.

When I went home I washed the shells thoroughly then I got lemon grass from my garden. I remembered vividly how my mother told me that the lemon grass was very important on this recipe especially with coconut milk.

I boiled the water first about 5 cups with slice of ginger...

When the water was boiling I added the shells, tomatoes and onion leaves. After boiling I added the coconut milk, salt to taste and a dash of black pepper.

Hmm the smell was soooo good!

When I served I separated the shells from the soup.

My mother used the traditional coconut then shaved which she bought at the market while I used the ready mix coconut powder I bought at the grocery.

Eating time! it was fun to suck those shells. Hubby, my son, our grandson and me enjoyed much sucking the shell, I taught them how to suck it with gusto.

Thanks much @justinparke with this another enjoyable challenge here at Asean Hive Community.

Thank you for dropping by...

Wow! I haven't eaten that for a long long time!they call it"Ige" here in Negros and it's my father-in-law's favorite. I like the taste but I don't know how to remove it through sucking that I'm short of breath imitating how they do it so I preferred to use the big safety pins to remove them. LoL! We have another type of " suso" in Marawi which is the round one and black too. Our Muslim friends love it with additional curry flavor.

I tried it once. My aunt used charcoal to smoke the coconut, which gave the food a smoky flavor. Ang pagpuputol talaga ng buntot ung mahirap. hehe

There is no such thing as too much lemongrass, well at least in my opinion. What a lovely recipe, and although I am vegan, I am very familiar with these flavors. Sometimes we make a similar broth with a wee bit of galangal too. Nice work chef, and nice to see you using so many nearby ingredients.

Soooooo yummmmy! I so love these shells too specially with the coconut milk. What ai love so much aside from the delicious taste of the shells is the aromatic smell of the soup because of the lemon grass and the ginger such a perfect duo when added to food. dynamite!

Congratulations on the win Ymmom!
Well deserved!!!♥️♥️♥️
