MY RAINBOW JOURNEY OF CROCHET || Introducing My Rainbow Dress

I still remember that moment when I asked God of granting me a special skill that I can make use of because I find myself unspecial for not having skills in dancing, singing, painting, or even cooking. Well, I can only cook simple dishes and nothing so special about it. I can only sing during shower time, can hardly dance, and only draw sticks. What I mean is, I want a skill where I can say I'm good at it where I can make a living and able to help my family in the financial aspect.

When did it happen?

I was still single at that time, 24 years old, already finished my college degree, and was working at that moment. I was a receptionist of the Ultrasound Section of the Hospital in Cebu City (Philippines) and I have two other workmates.

Why did I think of that?

Well, I just noticed my workmate being busy with their other stuff, making an extra sideline and earning more aside from working with our present job. And I find it very useful especially when my salary wasn't enough to support my family, having 2 siblings who were still studying at that time plus my own needs.

How God granted my wish?

Days had passed, and I forgot already what I asked for. My sister Jennisa was doing some cross-stitch work and I find it hard to sell that artwork aside from working it for a longer time.

Then one Sunday afternoon, we went to a craft store to buy some thread for her cross-stitch. We saw some colorful yarns (for crochet) and we decided to buy some and a pair of crochet hooks. That time, I don't know how to crochet or even hold the yarn and hook in my hand. When we got home, she showed me how to do it, and some basics of crochet. I learned fast and was able to make a small pouch for my spoon and fork, my first ever crochet project I made. After that, I made some coin purses and cellphone cases and was able to decorate them with buttons and some crochet flower appliques. Many had gotten interested and asked me to make some for them. I sold more than 10 pieces of it and was very glad not just the money I made from crochet but the fact that they loved my artwork.

Then I made crochet wearables from babies to adults (mostly tops and shorts/skirts), bags, and even earrings. My first crochet dress was made for my [dolls](https://hive.blog/hive-127911/@jonalyn2020/my-collection-of-dolls) and my first human-size crochet dress was crocheted in 2013 and was sold in the following year.

(My first crochet dress worn by my friend: May Grace)

As years passed, I made several different designs of crocheted dresses and was feeling grateful for the improvement since then. Though I was a little bit sad about not making written patterns with all the previous crocheted dress I made. I was always in a hurry to finish all my projects and it will take more time to count and write all the instructions. I now realized how important being a crochet artist/designer to write those detailed patterns for me to remake them easily with the patterns I have.

)
Note: You can check my previous post about the last dress here for the tutorial.

This year 2022, I would be making lots and lots of crochet dresses (thanks to God for the enormous blessings) but this time I would be making/writing all the detailed patterns so I will be able to share them with others. My goal for this year is to share more of what I have especially my knowledge in crochet and be able to appreciate and cherish this kind of passion that I have over the years plus let them also earn as I did.

For this year, I will be gathering more crochet artists and together we will shine on our own way.

Now, I would like to share with you this rainbow-crocheted dress for my client and how this dress had described my crochetiful journey of dresses. I can't give you the detailed patterns since this design is still to be considered for an exclusive dress only for this client. Though you may remake and make some changes with the colors, the stitches and how it looks like. Anyway, I believe every artist has her own creativeness, so here's mine.

I'm hoping to inspire crochet artists here and to those who are beginners in this kind of art, I tell you, do not stop making anything, be creative and you will eventually reach your goal.

You are special and exceptional. Your talent was just hidden that time and it's amazing how you unlocked your potential.

I just bought my mannequin a few weeks ago. I haven't used it yet but with the project I'm working on right now, it will be extra special because it's a collab with a very talented crocheter.

Aww. I feel soo grateful to have you by my side always. Not literally within my side because we're miles away but you're always there whenever I need you, the one who appreciates and sees my worth, the one I can trust and talk with all the heartaches, failures, problems, and even my dreams. Thank you for everything and I am really honored and very glad that God is always there to bring the right and best people I needed most. Thank you for being my ate. 😍

I have noticed a tag on one of the dresses, does it mean you sell them? Because if not, you should! Your work is great!

What an amazing work of art. My cousin also does crochet. She started off from making coasters. Now, she's making plushies, keychains, and hats. I'm going to show this to her. I know she'll be happy to see this. Thanks for sharing your amazing talent and work of art with us, @jonalyn2020 😄

Wow! Love the dresses 😍
My grandma do crochet and I remember trying to learn it but it was so hard for me. I will give it a try again to learn it. 🙂
