Highway To Hell

Cyclone Issa Destruction KwaZulu-Natal

I do not foresee future planning implemented at household and municipal levels where nature is considered accommodating soak off areas, strict building procedures, respect toward human life, flooding will not be ending anytime soon.

Why you might ask...., driven by recent events coming out of extreme drought 2017, raging fury in rain damage happening more regularly, this time we have encountered high death rate. Will housing infrastructure be developed honestly by engineers/geologists having a say in the matter, failing which all paths lead to future disasters.

Ominous clouds looming over the hills

Hunger will lead directly to looting, people are rightly annoyed with lack of service delivery, walk in shoes of another to know how degrading it must feel living in a city where you have no tapped water, running toilets or electricity, surely somewhere someone will stop and say enough!

Most know about devastating floods here in KwaZulu-Natal, content @lizelle, @artywink and @jacoalberts. Give thought to Philippines where similar event is happening @joyceantonia. End of February 2022, Brisbane and Queensland Australia flooded.

Positives Out Of Negative Situations

Wetlands throughout our country have been swallowed up by development, we must give nature a chance!

St Lucia estuary the largest wetland in heritage site, has after years of interference breached sand bank built by humans, breaking open the mouth once more to the sea.

Human involvement has been making this estuary die off faster than one realizes. As soon as sea water gushed back in many barbel along with other non-saline fish were swept out giving the people an opportunity to collect food, an area battling already, here sit the naysayers complaining about this as well? Get real, people are hungry time to share, why not?

Still Raining

As I write the promise of the rains moving away we still sit with drizzle outdoors yesterday afternoon LOL, sun has peeped through a couple of times revealing fantastic sunsets, although we did not see the moon in the last week, the sun greeted briefly once or twice.

Sunset 18th March 2022

Perhaps Cyclone Issa will for once make people realize living on rivers is not safe, dams should be checked regularly, infrastructure in rail and road need major repairs, mostly humans need to respect nature.

Leave only footprints!

Easter 2022 has come and gone, for us it is assisting where able, shocked by devastation, humbled by force natural damage inflicted on all, dig deep find Madiba magic see if South Africa rise once more from the ashes. Do it right this time!

Hanging Out Wet and Hungry

Covid highlighted poverty, lack of hospitals, floods highlight lack of proper housing, no early warning systems evident, infrastructure falling apart, there is much to do.

img_6718.jpg

No Time To Play!

Hopefully now with some forethought taking nature into consideration, introduce laws where buildings are not allowed on floodplains, or hills where natural land slides may exist, give nature place to move.

A watery sun going down yesterday afternoon, drifting above the moon made an appearance, we woke to amazing sunlight today, let the work begin.

This is what we get if our natural environment is not preserved, having it prioritize with proper planning where to build and not build, where to deforest and not to. Nature's wrath will show up every now and again until we learn to appreciate it.

So much needs to be done correctly, not the hap-hazard attitude that has been taking place. Pride in your country starts at home, then when out leave only footprints.

Massive difference in earnings, living conditions, lies and deceit all catch up at the end of the day, what horrors are we leaving for the children to deal with tomorrow?

This was a horrific event indeed! Thank you for sharing all the stats in your post.

But a special thank you for also showing the positives out of negative situations. When reading this, I could not help but be reminded about how nature started a healing process in many places after being hit by lockdown during the outbreak of the Covid Pandemic. How marine life started thriving on some of the coral reefs, and how the water cleared in places like Venice, to name but a few...

Different continents going through exactly the same, time to stop and rethink how humans are treating Mother Earth, no more talk, action is needed!

This is so true! I agree with you 100%!

Nature is our best friend if respect is found to avoid mass pollution we are witnessing now. Wetlands South Africa each plays a vital role.

Today was clear with sunshine, life should be too!

So many lost their lives, only counting human life.

No weather alert given, outside assistance arrives in drips and drabs a week later, much like the strike action last year, we the people are on our own to help each other, or no one will....

Since quite a while Mother Nature is angry on us, we shouldn't go where we aren't meant to go or live. I hope that the government does it right this time, like you say, to avoid such sad numbers in future.

Massive cleaning up operations, small groups helping where able. Not only humans need help, animal shelters need assistance, almost wherever you look there is a need.

Hope this time more is done than sitting and talking!

People helping each other and the animals too is a good sign and should also happen when all is good.

Politicians sit and talk and sit and talk, it's the same everywhere, but I hope with you that for once they do what they talk about 🤞

hello dear friend @joanstewart good afternoon Excellent post; This is one of those articles that everyone should read; what is happening in the world is terrible, and it is incredible that we do nothing to start the change; all change depends on each one of us
I take this opportunity to wish you a wonderful afternoon

Thanks for visit and have a wonderful day as well.

Hello Joan

It is so unfortunate all that has happened. I hope that recovery will not be long in coming. Hopefully, people and authorities will understand that they should not try to get in the way of nature. Constructions on riverbeds and streams are also frequent in my country, with the corresponding tragedies. Lately, there have been no regrets. In the last few years, rains have not been as intense as they used to be, but that has brought different problems.

I hope you and your family are well and have not been too affected by the ravages of the cyclone. 🤗

As one thing happens the next arrives, too many living in cramped conditions, setting up home in all the wrong places, part of the problem not having running water to homes.

Seasonal challenges happen all the time, our family is fine thanks for asking.

I am glad your family is fine, and I hope that the damages can be recovered soon. Hopefully, lessons will be learned.
Happy Wednesday!

Each time this happens different areas are affected, we suffered water in the house 1984 and 1987, absolutely no fun!

Thanks for kind thoughts and words, happy Wednesday!

It is very sad to think that we, the humans, are destroying our paradise in this universe. God gave us earth with everything balanced, but we are destroying the ecosystem without thinking that the upheavel would lead us to extinction

Humans are nonsensical, say one thing, do another, will never live peacefully together, nor try live balanced life with nature, humans don't know how to share.

time to stop and rethink how humans are treating Mother Earth, no more talk, action is needed!

Unfortunately, we have been warned about this for over 50 years yet have done nothing. Prince Charles talked about this in his first speech about hw we are destroying the environment in 1970. Him and others like him were ridiculed for years.

Progress in building housing and infrastructure is about profit and never gave two hoots about the lay of the land, and destroyed vast habitats in every country.

Houses built in known flood zones/ fire areas, it just gets me mad and has done for years.

I hope you are okay, I have lived through two hurricanes in Florida and know the instant devastation nature can bring.

The two years of Covid lockdowns gave the planet a chance to breathe a little but we back at it, destroying it faster and faster.

I despair, as an intelligent race, our intelligence leaves a lot to be desired.

I was wondering about all the wildlife. Loved the two videos and what a shame about the washed up crocodile. The monekys I presume will be doing a lot of pilfering in houses trying to get food.

Stay safe and I hope things improve and people do listen to what our planet is telling us.

Nature Is Speaking not new, conservationists trying very hard to get message through. This series not only interesting also done by well known celebrities to promote, excellent for children and adults, can we listen and try?

Coastal living, we have been through four floods two in big magnitude damage, and two extreme droughts.

Good to see crocodiles, they will move back without harm coming to them, would love to see leopard in our region to cull monkey populations, again human interference.

We were not badly affected, being same home 40 years, spent hours standing watching heavy rains before implementing drainage pipes, after first round in 1987 when water ran right through the house, live and learn.

Second day of sunshine, much cleaning being done, many still without water and electricity, now I must run... thanks for visit!

I agree @joanstewart, flooding is become very widespread and a lot of damage and deaths. No country seems to be missing out. Goodness, doesn't it take a long time to recover. Brisbane is still full of dirt and rubble etc, my sister said the smell of the Brisbane River going down was terrible. We had drenching rains a few weeks ago when there was low pressure trough and on a positive note the heavy rain cleaned the streets.

This will take a very long time to recover, hopefully heed professional warnings and do it properly.

We cannot contain nature, need to life in harmony together, now more than ever with climate change apparent.

So agree and you know there are plenty of environmentally good intention people who are working for the well being of us and nature.

As in any country one has to have knowledgeable people in the field discussing problems or problematic areas then implement rules.

People move in a build shacks without thought to consequence, an ongoing problem over many years.

Few are trained in being proactive when disaster strikes this should be addressed.

Thirty years ago housewives even knew what to do, where to assemble to render assistance, thirty years into new democracy all this has disappeared.

Each person should have something they can assist with in voluntary work, yet most do nothing at all!

Self gratification in a quick fix world with massive population does not bode well, too much trash.

Living in a country with minimal water supply where cyclical floods happen, we need to learn nature will take it's own path.
