World Photography Contest Round #29 | Beautiful Red Percher, Dragonfly!

Red Percher

You wouldn't think that this beautiful Red Percher Dragonfly belongs to a group of insect who also catches insects considered among the world's best hunters. Amazing right?

Dragonflies are constantly eating, hunting insects and consuming them voraciously.
While it looks like this vibrant red dragonfly is resting, it is most likely in the lookout for small flying insects.

They are very agile flyers and each of their four wings can operate independently of the others, allowing them to accelerate and change direction very quickly.

They usually fly behind their prey and catch it with their legs, quickly bringing to their mouths to eat. Because they consume a lot of small flying insects like mosquitoes which are considered pests, dragonfliesare considered to be beneficial insects and are our partners in natural pest control.

This beautiful Red Percher was photographed by me in my neighbor's vegetable garden near the small bridge I usually passed by everyday.

A little google search:
Dragonflies are native to the Philippines, and other countries in Southeast Asia and can be found in various environments, including urban and man-made environments.
Dragonflies needs freshwater to complete their life cycles as their immature stage is aquatic

Thanks so much to @marc-allaria for initiating this #worldphotography contest

Many thanks for reading me. See you around!

Glad you like the color mom, so vibrant. 🥰 I remember my childhood friend put some thread in the dragonfly's tail & make it a pet..makes me sad.
