Apocalyptic Homesteading (Day 1094)

Hello Everyone!

Sleeping is a hitch, Coding to my heart's content, Building custom GPT models & All too many ideas!

It is the very end of the day here and I am happy to report that once again... I sat down to begin writing... right on time. Do not worry because there is plenty of room for backsliding (or just missing my mark) in the future... but 'so far so good' because I am doing well this week with sticking to my routines.

Sleeping has been a bit of a hitch the last few evenings and although I somehow get enough sleep... I never quite get much 'rest' or even awaken feeling all that rested. Not that I am complaining or anything... but what has mainly been going on is that as soon as I drift off to sleep... I begin dreaming so vividly that for all 'intents and purposes' I may as well be awake. The experiences are simply that engaging... and I just do not know how to spell it out any better than that.

Anyways, today began with much more overcast skies and general dreariness than the weather was yesterday... and for the life of me I could not convince myself to get outdoors for anything besides doing my usual chores and tasks. Early in the day... after realizing that things were not going to dry up enough to harvest more grapevines... I resigned myself to tackle a few coding ideas that I wanted to check the feasibility of.

Long story short there... I burned up many hours of my day pursuing one 'interesting' idea after the other... without making much progress on the overall project that those 'ideas' were going to become components of. I would not call it a total 'mission failure' because during the process of discarding some things that did not work... I found a few gems that might work... so go figure.

Once that I kind of 'burned myself out' on coding I got the idea to tinker with a custom GPT model... and of course my first one was one geared towards the Virtual Forest framework and learning environment that I made... where the LLM (or AI) both generates the content and is the main protagonist... and the world map is its own Linux system. Yeah, that Virtual Forest! In short I dumped the main documentation and code base into the custom GPT LLM and 'let the magic happen' from there. It is pretty wild but if the code interpreter is enabled then all the files that I added to it can be accessed... and in some cases even executed by the model. Although I tested my main entry point scripts from the sandbox folder... the model reported that they were 'way too advanced' for it to execute them... but it did get the gist of it... and was able to begin directly 'playing the game' so to speak.

After I got that model finished I began tinkering with building one that will be just for Hive... and so far so good... because it has been able to digest some rather large code bases and all the documentation that I can scrape together... which is not much honestly. For the most part that is still a work in progress because even now as I write this entry I am trying to get some of the larger Hive related code bases uploaded to it... which so far has been painfully slow... hence the in-completion. While I am on that topic I think that I am also going to make a GPT model for Homesteading... and probably include things like the CD3WD project and any other informative information that I can find. Overall, I think that it would be a good way to create a centralized database for consulting an LLM on a broad range of topics. Even though this is not a 'new idea' for me... the tools to make it happen are finally here... and they actually make the process quite simple.

It all brings to mind that idea that I once had where I wanted to take a picture of a potential homesteading site... and then be able to plot it all in 3D and map real world items to the image to create a 'holistic view' of the scenario. The idea was to then be able to figure out how 'one thing relates to another' and setup the site according to its findings. In essence I could account for shade throughout the year, predict where water will runoff at, where to place buildings and so forth... and now I think I am going to try to apply that... to an AI doing it for me!

Well, I think that is 'all the words that I have in me' for one day. I hope that everyone is doing well and has a nice time.

The shade grown black locust is still holding its leaves well during the colder temperatures!
