Artistic nude

Greetings everyone, I hope you have an excellent weekend, I started a new knitting art project today and I am very excited about how it is turning out, I hope to make the most of these days and have it ready for Monday, but visual impairment does not It allows me to knit at night, that's why I take that time to relax and write in Hive, so I happily found the interesting proposals made by @galenkp in Weekend-Engagement 169, I chose a topic that reminded me of very nice experiences from the past, I hope you like it like to read my answer to the question:

You can either be a nude model being photographed or the photographer taking the shots of a nude model, which you choose and why?

Nude modeling is one of the things that, although it is very old, continues to generate taboo, controversy and also morbidity among most people, however, the human body is one of the most interesting forms of art, it contains all plastic elements of the art, lines, volumes that generate lights and shadows, visual and tactile textures, it also has the ability to move, which is why it can generate tension or forces within the compositional plane, in addition to this, each body is unique, which is why it is an excellent model for the art.

In my time as a university student at the Dean of Plastic Arts, it was very difficult to get models for live nudes, nude models could optionally be used for any subject such as Plastic Language and Artistic Expression Techniques, but in the case of subjects Anatomical Drawing and Sculpture, it was completely necessary because it was obviously part of the content to be studied, however, it was very difficult for someone to want to pose nude, almost always the students ended up posing because they understood very well that the objective was learning.

In my career I did not specifically study photography, but I did have the opportunity to draw and sculpt looking at a nude model and it was one of the best learning experiences I have ever had, but I also served as a nude model myself in a sculpture class where my colleagues did wonderful jobs looking at my body. This happened in 2017 and one of the friends who made a clay sculpture that later went through a process of molding and casting in plaster, was my friend @Yetsimar, who very kindly gave me the photographs that I show below (I must clarify that at that time I was thinner than today 😅)

Sculpture of my body made by @yetsimar

The experience of posing nude in this case for the sculpture class, I really liked, because I had known all my classmates for several years, I trusted them and our teacher Benigno Gonzalez who is a magnificent sculptor, at no time did I feel that they were looking at me in a lascivious way, because artists look at plastic elements, such as those I mentioned at the beginning, instead of seeing the breasts we see the volume that they generate, instead of the waist we see a contour or silhouette, that is, all serious artists in your profession and in your art you will never see a woman or a man in your mind, you will see a body just as you might see a vase of flowers.

Sculpture that I made from a nude model

On the other hand, strange as it may seem, men from my country have more taboo to model nude, however, for a sculpture class I convinced my friend @eduardocastillo to model and he did it, I don't have photos of the work we do in that class, but it was very good because a man is a much more difficult model to do than a woman, this due to the musculature that can be seen in areas like the back for example. However, there were very few students who were willing to strip naked in favor of learning, there is still a lot of taboo and this does not benefit art students who want to practice and develop skills, most of the time these students do not find another way out more than using nude images found on the web, which most of the time does not work well because it would be guided by a two-dimensional image, also many photos are of pornographic origin and unfortunately the bodies there do not look natural 😔

Some charcoal drawings I did many years ago using image references from the web

Finally to answer the question, I would say that I am not good with photography but I would like to draw or make a sculpture of someone naked again, on the other hand, I am willing to accept to pose nude only for some artistic proposal such as drawing, painting or sculpture, As long as I trust the artist and know his artistic work in advance, I limit myself to the subject of photography due to the vulnerability that the possible leak of images without his consent presents to the model. As a mother, I would not mind if my son sees a nude of My in a museum or a gallery, but with photography it's different, especially since monetization of such content is common these days on the web, so I wouldn't want to be photographed.

I hope you liked it. I invite you to read my next publications and I will always be willing to answer your questions and comments, you can also follow me and contact me on any of my social networks. Thank you!

I think I can start with this joke:

Holy smokes, is it hot here or is it you?

Taking my need for making pointless jokes without any remorse, it is lovely to see some of the work made out of your image. It's a very hard thing to find models for doing such a thing, but is a necessity to learn some skills. I would try that out if I had the chance. But people would be drawing a lot of body hair 🤣

Anyways, I'd like to be in some class like that. I can't draw or sculpt, but I could try my shot at naked poetry. Definitely an interesting artistic exploration.

In the area of art commonly known as Performance there are many people who undress without any type of taboo to recite poetry, so within the world of students and artists it is almost normal to see hairy, hairless, skinny, fat, bodies of different sizes. colors. skin, among other things. It's highly unlikely that anyone would look askance at an artistic nude if he chooses to do so in such an environment. If someone sees an artistic nude with a perverted face, they will be repudiated by all

Sincerely, reading you gave me another idea about culture and taboo, it is true that we still are or have a lot of taboo about it, however, I share with you what you say about the form, the volume, the shadows, the human body is something so beautiful, especially the human body of the woman. Without falling into the issue of pornography, it is very nice to appreciate a work of art of a nude, when I lived in Caracas I had the opportunity to see many art exhibitions with artistic nudes, that is another level, I met one of the owners of the magazine URBE a weekly and through him I managed to enter many art exhibitions.

Congratulations to @yetsimar, he did a great job.

Yetsimar was one of the best in the class and she still has the plaster sculpture.
The problem that exists in society is sexualization, for example in indigenous or African tribes, the breasts are not sexualized, that is why women are uncovered in that part, that is, it is not seen in a sexual way, hopefully the world was different, a lot of education is needed about it. I think that a society that is more shocked by a nude than by a robbery is very sick.

It is very true that nudity is still taboo, sometimes I think it is influenced by the stereotypes of beauty and not being judged because not all of us have perfect bodies, I really admire your talent.

Thank you very much for your comment, in art it is much more beneficial to have models that come out of the stereotype of beauty, it is better to sculpt, for example, a figure with volume than a very thin one.

I had the happiness of being in that artistic education environment that allowed me to have very enriching experiences, besides that I have always tried not to let myself be carried away by only the superficial appearance of things, although the human body is wonderful, in the end what it means let's do with this what matters, sometimes we can make art and that is something that fascinates my mind, the creative potential of artists goes beyond the observation of a model, even with the same model all the results are different.
Thank you for reading my post 🤗

Countries/cultures/individuals have different tolerances or acceptable behaviours around nudity for various reasons, but all of us look the same at the end of the day, have similar bits. I'd not pose nude to be honest, but I don't have a problem with it, nudity, there's a place for it, a reason, and yes, the human body is an incredible thing really.

Wow, how amazing. I admire that ability to sculpt human bodies. I'm learning to draw, and for now I focus on faces, but thanks to this post made me want to learn to draw anatomy haha. The human body is fascinating ❤️

sculpting or drawing using a live model is another level of difficulty but it certainly helps to develop skills in a very efficient way, it helps you educate your eye or way of seeing things, I highly recommend using models whenever you can 😉

What an enriching publication. It is impressive what I have learned through your artistic vision. The human body will always be taboo in my humble opinion, beyond the insatiable quest for its exploration and knowledge about it, there is the fact that our mind imagines really absurd things in many cases. Stereotyping the features and turning a masterpiece like the body into something common.

I think I agree with you on the subject of the sensitivity of photography, nowadays it is a very delicate subject and crossing the line from privacy to public is very thin. I would like to be a model I will tell you, but always under the respect and understanding that we are vulnerable to exposure.

I loved reading you and I think this weekend I will join this initiative. It's brutal. Ah, excellent work you show here! Greetings 🤗

Thank you very much for your comment and appreciation, the body will always be a reason for art, because it will always be a topic of conversation and always generates a reaction, art must produce a reaction in the viewer, this can be for or against but it only puts A topic under debate is important, the boundaries of the body not only concern biological issues, but also a broad social spectrum where conflicting opinions are the order of the day.
Hugs 🤗

Wow, these sculptures are mind-blowing. Now, I wish I could do that. I do understand how getting nude models can be sometimes and how it is taboo.

Thanks for sharing this.

It is very difficult to get models for nudes but art is always worth it and there are people who are willing to do it, especially people within the same artistic field. Hug 🤗

Oh! This is lovely and shows how comfortable and confident you are in your body which should not be had any other way.
I would really love a sculpture of myself in my youthful age done by professionals. It's scary to feel like you are watched and imagined in the most obscene ways, and worse to be stalked afterwards (that is indeed a nightmare).

Lovely sculptures by the way💕
