The recent development about the Guinness world records: The records and the motivation of record holders.

Good afternoon my fellow hivers. Happy Sunday to you all. Hope you went to church ☺️.

Its my pleasure writing on this platform, I'm so excited about this topic. I've always wished to write about this topic on this platform. I'm so happy I'm finally doing this. Special thanks to @hiveghana for this week's wonderful prompts.

I'll start first by letting us know what the guinness world record is all about. The Guinness World Records is a compilation of world records that covers a wide variety of topics. The records are set by individuals, groups, and organizations from all over the world.

source

The purpose of the book and keeping this record is to celebrate human achievement, and to inspire other people to pursue their dreams and push their limits to what they think they can do. It's also a fun way to learn about the world, its inhabitants and all the wonderful things that could be done in it and also found in it.

To be frank and honest, I didn't really know much about the Guinness world records, until lately. I just heard people broke records about things but I didn't know it will be this interesting to learn things about the world records book.

I've learnt that there are a lot of categories in the book. One of the most well-known categories in the book is extreme bodies. This very category includes records for the world's tallest and shortest people, as well as people with extreme body proportions.

This category also includes records for people with unusual physical abilities, such as the world's fastest runner on stilts, and the world's longest tongue.Another popular category in the book is that of the food and drink. This category includes records for the largest food items, the most expensive dishes, and the strangest food combinations. It also includes records for the most bizarre eating challenges, such as the world's fastest pie eater, and the world's most competitive hot dog eating contest.

Like I said before I didn't really know much about the Guinness world records till when my Akwa ibom sister, Hilda Baci started to attempt a record call cook-a-thon which she broke at exactly 7:45 on the 15th may 2023. She broke the record for the longest cooking marathon that could be done by any individual. She cooked for 87 hours 50 minutes surpassing the previous holder of the record in 2019.
And she also went ahead to set her own record of 100 hours.

Sorry to say this but the truth is she has really inspired people around the world to see themselves ina way that they can do anything as long as they determine to. Since the cook-a-thon, we've had a lot of record breakers. You might hold the title but before you close your eyes to open them, it's taken away😂.

To what I think about this recent development. I think that the Guinness World Records has been very fascinating to watch. The book has been expanding its categories to include more of modern records. It's becoming more inclusive.

More people have been recognized for their accomplishments, and it can also help to break down discrimination and misconceptions. But somehow I also think that the book is becoming too focused on popular culture, and that it's losing some of its historical and cultural significance.

What do you think about the Guinness world records??

Thank you for stopping by.

Yeah.
I did know about GWR but I wasn't really interested in knowing more.
Till Hilda broke ther record

That's great
Cristiano Ronaldo's record of being the all-time top scorer in the UEFA Champions League is definitely a classic example of a meaningful and significant record. It's a testament to his skill and dedication as a soccer player, and it's something that has taken years of hard work to achieve.

Thank you too for reading through.

I used to watch Guinness Book of Records programs on TV many years ago and I truly enjoyed it but what we are having these days is just absurd and I do agree that the book is losing some of its historical significance. Since Hilda broke her record, many Nigerians have been jumping on the trend and I have seen a lot of really embarrassing attempts at breaking one record or the other

I definitely see where you're coming from. In a way, it's great that the Guinness World Records is tapping into the power of social media to reach a larger audience, but it's a shame that some people are using the platform in an attempt to gain fame through stunts that don't necessarily reflect the spirit of the book.

What’s Akwa ibom ?

And I’m surprised you got to know of GWR records with Hilda but I remember how interesting it was when they use to about weird things like Longest nails,Biggest teeth, etc
Those were really interesting stuff.

Akwa ibom is a State in Nigeria.
And it's the state I come from.
You should visit here one day.

Like I said I've always heard about the record but I didn't have interest.
It's when Hilda attempted the record that I had interest and sought to know more about it.

Good afternoon! I enjoyed reading your post about the Guinness World Records. It's fascinating to learn about the diverse categories, and your sister's cook-a-thon achievement is truly inspiring. The way the records celebrate human achievement and encourage pushing limits is admirable. I agree that the evolving inclusivity is positive, but it's essential to balance with maintaining historical and cultural significance. Keep sharing your insights! 👏

Thank you for the kind words! I'm glad you found the post interesting and informative. I also appreciate your insights on the need to balance inclusivity with historical and cultural significance. This is a complex and ongoing challenge for the Guinness World Records, and it's great to see that they're making an effort to address it. I look forward to your future comments and insights.
