Cheeky Thing

This morning I was sitting on a bench, waiting for the person I had to meet, to arrive. I had my backpack and my shopping with me, both resting on the bench. There were a few minutes till our meeting time as I was early, so I used the time to relax and check what's going on in this big world.

At some point I realized I wasn't alone on the bench anymore.

This cheeky thing snuck up next to me and started to explore what was on the bench. I was a bit shocked to be honest as stray cats are not friendly at all. Most of them are rather scared of people and overly cautious for a good reason. Some people don't know how to treat animals, or are just pure evil. Mistreating and abusing animals is against the law, but it's difficult to prove and the justice system is burdened with cases involving humans (sometimes human animals, unfortunately) and I think we need a good few years till the fight against animal abuse will be taken seriously.

I was surprised to see this cheeky thing sneaking up to the bench, then walking all over my backpack, almost pushing me aside, so he (or she?) can get to where he was going. My grocery bag was his ultimate target and he got there by walking all over my backpack. He stuck his nose in my grocery bag, at which point I told him stop and redirected him towards another destination.

He seemed to understand what I meant, although I don't know what language he is used to, possibly German. In the absence of reaching his ultimate goal, he decided to rest a bit and what better place to do that at, than on top of my backpack.

I told him again that that's not going to happen as my backpack is not a hostel for cats. He seemed to understand what I meant and left. Phew, I thought, this went well. The truth is, I know this cat as I've seen it before. It's not a stray cat, it belongs to the church and most likely he was hungry, which is strange as look at him. Does he look like a neglected, starved cat? Not at all, on the contrary. Look at that fur.

After a few minutes, he appeared and jumped on the bench again. I said, good God, here we go again, I have to fight with this beast one more time.

But he was not interested in my groceries anymore. Instead, he started his morning bath routine.

I was still amazed about how friendly, or rather not afraid he was. As I said earlier, I've seen him before, he was never afraid of me, but also he has never come so close to me, walking over me basically.

I'm not a cat fan (most likely cat fans are going to throw stones at me now 😁), I prefer dogs, but this cutie pie was adorable this morning. How can you resist such a cute face?

After finishing his morning bath, he jumped off the bench and found refuge from the heat, under a small pine tree in the park.

In a way I was sorry I did not have any food in my bag, that I could have given him. Most likely he was hungry, but the groceries I had in my bag were not something he would have liked. Maybe next time I can bring a piece of bread with me, to see if he likes it.

So today I had no intention to do a cat photo shoot, but the universe gave me this chance and I took advantage of it. Enjoying little things is important and for me it was caturday today. I'm still amazed how friendly this little cheeky thing was today.

Oh, I want this cat. I remember my pet cat before. The same color but that cat looks healthier than mine.hehe
