Recognizing special days as holiday

Holidays are leisure time away from work devoted to rest or pleasure, a day on which work is suspended by law or custom. Already in the Nigeria system the government has marked out some days to be observed as public holidays which among them are the Christmas, New Year, Eid, and so many other days which is cool.

But one aspect I think both the government and private sectors have failed is not including birthdays as public holidays. Birthdays are special days in a person's life, it's a day to reflect on the day you were birthed, what transpired during your birth, and your vision as well. It is also a day to sit and think how life has treated you so far and a day to map and strategics your plans and how the next few years to come should look like and most importantly a day of thanksgiving to your creator for seeing you thus far and commiting every off your little steps to him because him alone knows how to take care of you.

So on such a special day it's annoying seeing that people don't have the opportunity to reflect on all these things all because they want to meet up with an appointment. The worst part of it, is that any little mistake such a person makes, sack letter 💌 follows immediately. At times no matter how you work your ass out, you get little or no appreciation at all.

I remember at my former place of work, any staff observing his or her birthday prefers to lie and don't come to work because they want to celebrate and make the day special cause its indeed special. Talking about my boss his so mean to the call that even on government holidays we hardly observed it talk more of birthdays. And that was the advantage we had too some extent cause since he doesn't care about anyone, two days to a person birthday they fall ill 🤧 so they won't come to work till after their birthday it got to some point that the management started noticing that one person is always missing so they enacted a law that anyone sick must come to work till they approve of you going home. But you know there is always that one good actor in our midst, on the day of her birthday she called she was sick but they didn't believe and asked her to come to work which she came. After few minutes of settling down she started throwing up here and there immediately I was asked to see her off to her house. After we boarded a cab this girl became healthy all of a sudden and was smiling profusely that it was just an act because someone promised to take her out and can't afford to miss the nice treat.

Looking at how things are I know for sure it is not only our organization that such things happens because people can go to any length to make a special day special. It would be wise and thoughtful if the government declares birthdays as holiday because all the staffs can't share same days meaning work don't have to stop and both the workers and the government are happy knowing fully well they have each other at heart.

So I am advocating that the government should include birthdays as public holidays.
