10 minutes of tapping

A freewrite this night
some time has passed
since I bared my thoughts
and inspirations last.

It seems that dreams
avoid me again
the world now fallen
to the stroke of a pen.

Eager fingers clatter
and dance on the keys
tapping out a melody-
a meager reprieve
the darkness outside-
perhaps also within
an unwelcome guest
as I scratch at my chin
I strive to be empty
thoughtless, serene
let my digits dance
words appear on the screen
the burden of thought
attempts to butt in
a pause for a moment
indulging that whim

alas a mistake
the flow is now lost
as prose become sluggish
crystallizing like frost
immobile and cold
on the window beside
while a tornado of thought
spins up in the mind
synapses fire
refuse to be still
the cup that was empty
is suddenly filled

I struggle to end it
to stifle the torrent
of thoughts overwhelming
distracting, abhorrent
yet still they keep coming
they struggle to surface
in spite of my efforts
they seem pressing and urgent

the void opens to me
and I find it at last
ignoring the ice
and frigid cold blast
that strives to reclaim me...
peace settles in fast
once again I'm tap dancing
across the keyboard
and words flow like water
from where they've been stored
the silence that's golden
the thoughts that were stilled
in truth are the demons
that limit us still.

Excellent!!! But shouldn't our minds have something in them when we type?

Perhaps sometimes- others I find it best to let things just flow! You know that feeling when the story seems to just write itself? The characters already know what to do and you are just giving them a medium in which to do it!
I also think that for freewriting it's important to just write down whatever strikes you in the moment!

Many times in a series the characters know exactly what to do :) ... I find them easier than starting something new a lot of the time.
