I got a call at work to come in today for one of my favorite jobs. By now you should already know that I work with a catering company and that we travel. This time however, it was within my city. It was for an orientation ceremony with the NYSC (Nigerian Youth Service Corps) Members. The orientation would be done by the Military. It would be my first time attending anything like this one and I was pretty excited about it. I was told to resume 5am and so, I packed my bag with the necessities against today.

Because it’s within, the bag was light. Rain fell heavily this morning though and I left my house at 5:30am.

We left at the crack of dawn. The road was mostly wet and empty and very cold. Kaduna is in the North and I don’t know if it’s just a coincidence that Norths always have extreme weathers. The warmth or chill is always amplified, at least in where I stay.

We passed the River Kaduna and then made a pit stop for supplies.

The venue was at Hotel Seventeen. Funny enough, I’ve heard so much of this place but didn’t know what it looked liked or where it was located until today. Like I heard, it was really grand. At least from the outside. I didn’t go inside it and stayed at my post; focused on the hall.

But what is it with these event venues and faulty fountains?😂 I haven’t seen one fountain that actually works!

There were vendors already set up to market their products and services to anyone who’d be interested.

Like many other events we’ve catered to, prominent figures made appearances. The Deputy Governor of the state and the Executive Governor’s representative. The Director General of the Military (can’t remember the whole details) was present too.

The guests were all merry jelly as they sat and the hall filled with noise. Meanwhile, our tables with breakfast for the first part of it. The event is running four days and we are catering to two out of those four days. Breakfast and Lunch. Work was easier as it was a buffet setting.

Members of the NYSC played live from the VIP section which was located upstairs. The hall is divided into two. The ground floor and the Gallery.

It was colorful despite the formal tone of it. Especially with the cultural display of the Corps members. They really danced a lot!

It was another exciting day of events and food. I felt really tired when I got home but I won’t forget to share that we passed the Kaduna Golf Club on our way back.

Overall, I enjoyed the car ride more than anything. Being on the road always does something to me despite how stressful it could be. And who says I didn’t play? Ha!

I had a friend over and on impulse, we both went to play pool. Let me tell you this, I’ve never played pool (snooker) in my life!

I was flogged woefully but I still managed to pocket two balls. Hehe. Another day has gone by with me reminiscing on what a day it has been! Hehe. I look forward to the next one.
