Au Revoir Moraine Lake

IMG_20230926_160018_Original.jpeg

Au Revoir Moraine Lake, till next time… Au Revoir is French for good bye, in case you didn’t know. Up here in Canada, we have two official languages: English and French. Most of the country primarily speaks English, except for Quebec. Funny thing is though, all of our merchandise and products have bilingual labeling, by law. Sort of a dumb law if you ask me, but what does it matter anyways. These are the final photos from my hiking trip to Eiffel Lake via Moraine Lake. As I mentioned earlier, I ran into a bit of snow on the trail, but at the end point here at Moraine, the weather had improved a fair bit, allowing me to capture some decent pics. I will plan another trip up her perhaps next year. I really want to get some Eiffel lake photos minus the blowing snow!

I thought English was the local language in Canada. Thank you for the info. The river looks so amusing and peaceful. Great shots my friend 💓

Canada is bilingual, they both use English and French languages due to historical and cultural reasons. I don't speak French btw. Besides from bonjour! 😂

I absolutely love listening to people who can speak French because it instantly makes me feel fancy and sophisticated, even if I have no idea what they're saying! Lol

The view is mind-blowing!

I'd love to visit Canada someday. Maybe when we go back to Vermont for camping, it'll be nice to experience some of the beautiful trails.

How long of a hike is this?

The hike to Eiffel lake was approximately four hours or so. Thanks, come visit someday.

Oh wow! And the elevation?

I haven't tried doing the real hiking trails. We have a lot of hiking trails in the area, but we haven't had the chance of experiencing a longer hike or those particularly challenging elevation levels. I don't think my five year old son will be able to do it. 😁

I bet he could. Problem is, young kids might get bored on the way up, you have keep him entertained. Elevation gain is about 500 metres or so.

Yep! It's a lot of work to entertain him for that long 🤣

This is the best place in Banff for those “diamond” reflections. Thanks @toohip.

Magnificent shot's, I must come there one day. My family tree is Mi'kmaq and French Canadian, maybe I do need to make it up North one day.

Funny they refer to the South here as the Land of the Pines informally...but yall up there seem to have pines as the king crop! Lovely shots as always!

I should. Its only been about 50 years lol. We went fly in fishing at a place called Rollo Lake Lodge. Only way in was a seaplane. Flew in on an old de Havilland Beaver with a seat for the pilot and a person to the right. The rest of us sat on luggage. Caught some nice pike. This was back in the day in the early 70s lol. Good times!

What they did have up there that was totally new to me, that I loved, was a sauna!

Very sad to hear that you have left this beautiful lake, I hope that in other days you can visit it again and give some other beautiful pictures of this phenomenal lake.

So can french be classified as a lingua franca in Canada as well? The clear water and the sitting area is amazing. What's the temperature like?

I would say English is the lingua franca, although some in Quebec may disagree. The temp will be ice cold for sure. What degree, not sure.

Au revoir , a l'an prochain la belle montagne. She's all closed up for the season now. French of Quebec are early settlers and it has too do with Heritage. With that being said Indigenous languages should also be considered heritage languages. Northern NB is also mostly French, Edmonton has a pretty healthy "Cartier Francophone" downtown/ Whyte Ave.

Indeed, pockets of Francophone smattered here and there. Jusqu'à la prochaine fois, le lac Moraine!

Such a beautiful lake reminds me so much of Torres del Paine in southern Chile.

Those B&W are just like a time machine... they came out great. Keep on hiking before you need snow shoes to do it!
