Last weekend I went with the herd to a route in San Antonio de Prado, an area of Medellín that looks like something out of a postcard. It's amazing how, just a few minutes from the city, one can find so much living nature, green mountains and landscapes that invite you to stop, take a deep breath and, of course, take out your camera for a good photo.

The departure was on hold since the day before. It had drizzled at night and we all knew what that meant: swamp, slippery terrain and a much more demanding route. But we also knew that these are the adventures to remember. Finally, the day dawned clear, with blue skies breaking between the mountains, and we didn't think twice: we hopped on our bikes and headed out.

Best of all, as we rode along, the scenery opened up to our eyes like a gift. Mist-covered mountains in the background, huge trees that seemed to be guardians of the road, streams that sang among the stones, and that intense green that seems impossible to describe. We stopped to take a breath of fresh air and, by the way, a photo or two. Not because we needed an excuse, but because the beauty of the place demanded it.

At the end of the tour, with a tired body but a recharged soul, we all agreed on the same thing: going out was the best decision. Because there is nothing like disconnecting for a while from the noise, the concrete and the routine, to reconnect with the earth, with oneself and with others.Mountain biking is not just pedaling, it is learning to listen to the silence of the forest, to read the roads and to value every drop of sweat.

The next ride is already in our sights, because every day we are thinking about which route we are going to continue with.

El fin de semana pasado me fui con la manada a una ruta en San Antonio de Prado, una zona de Medellín que parece sacada de una postal. Es increíble cómo, a solo unos minutos de la ciudad, uno puede encontrarse con tanta naturaleza viva, montañas verdes y paisajes que invitan a detenerse, respirar profundo y, claro, sacar la cámara para una buena foto.

La salida estuvo en veremos desde el día anterior. Había lloviznado en la noche y todos sabíamos lo que eso significaba: pantano, terreno resbaloso y una ruta mucho más exigente. Pero también sabíamos que esas son las aventuras que se recuerdan. Finalmente, el día amaneció despejado, con el cielo azul rompiendo entre las montañas, y no lo pensamos dos veces: nos montamos en las bicis y salimos.

Lo mejor de todo fue que, mientras avanzábamos, el paisaje se iba abriendo a nuestros ojos como un regalo. Montañas cubiertas de neblina al fondo, árboles enormes que parecían guardianes del camino, riachuelos que cantaban entre las piedras, y ese verde tan intenso que parece imposible de describir. Parábamos a tomar aire y, de paso, alguna que otra foto. No porque hiciera falta una excusa, sino porque la belleza del lugar lo pedía.

Al final del recorrido, con el cuerpo cansado pero el alma recargada, todos coincidimos en lo mismo: salir fue la mejor decisión. Porque no hay nada como desconectarse un rato del ruido, del concreto y la rutina, para volver a conectarse con la tierra, con uno mismo y con los demás. Practicar ciclomontañismo no es solo pedalear, es aprender a escuchar el silencio del bosque, a leer los caminos y a valorar cada gota de sudor.

La próxima salida ya está en la mira, pues cada día estamos pensando con qué ruta vamos a continuar.
