POPULAR SPOT IN KUALA LUMPUR: LABYRINTH BOOKSTORE, A CONVERTED BOOKSTORE FROM OLD CINEMA | 老戏院改造成的书局

Due to pandemic was gradually relieved and the safe measurement was eased, I bought VTL bus ticket (vaccinated travel lane) to travel to Malaysia for a short trip.

During the trip, I had visited some popular spots. My cousin in Kuala Lumpur bought me to a newly opened specialty bookstore, which opened my eyes!

The bookstore is called REXKL. It is located at Jalan Sultan Kuala Lumpur. When I arrived at the bookstore, an ancient building appeared in front of me. It was originally an old cinema.

The architect kept the original architectural frameworks includes ceiling, floor and wall finishes. The first floor is the café and restaurants, the second floor is exhibition hall and bookstore, the third and fourth floors are the bookstore.

The most distinctive feature was reused of existing building materials, reclaimed of various elements, added layering of bookshelves and plenty of interior spot lights to create a cool and stylishness bookstore.

The Children’s books are displayed on the shelves at the entrance. Various types of book collections are arranged on the stacked bookshelves by different categories.

This is not only a paradise for book lovers, but also a paradise for photographers. In fact, I just shot casually, and I could take good photos.

This architect should be an artist too. He is very creative that he turned the bookshelves into ladders to lead visitors to climb up to the third floor of bookstore for reading more books.

On the third floor, there was a hidden glass corridor through which we can walk into another space.

It’s really a distinctive space! In another space, it had clearly feels that the bookstore was transformed from the theatre. It still retained the stepped seats and stairs of the theatre.

In this space, can really felt this amazing bookstore flourishing with people, and I truly appreciate the architect works.

After visiting the labyrinth bookstore, my cousin and I went to the downstairs’ café at 1st floor to order Vegan pizza, French fries, Fried Lion Mane Mushroom. The food serving here were delicious, especially the pizzas are very tasty with lots of toppings and generous amounts of cheese.
I think I will come back again with bring along my hubby as he really love reading books and photography.

Hello Cherry, dear friend. How are you doing today? I simply love the way the REXKL also known as the Labyrinth Bookstore is currently designed, being refurbished from an old movie house. What's also interesting about that interior space is how it mimics a cascading topographic terrain of a mountainside or hilly landscape. Being a bookworm myself, I'd surely linger in a fantastic place like that, gorging, digesting all the available books, magazines, and other reading materials. Additionally, the close proximity of the cafe downstairs, serving delicious food, transforms that location into the perfect hideaway for learning enthusiasts like you and me. 😊

I'm likewise fascinated by the wooden book cabinets and divided niches. Do you have any idea what type of wood finishes are they?

Thank you my dear friend, Erne. I am fine here. How is your day? Hope you and your family always doing well.
It's my pleasure you like the Bookstore and highly recommend you to visit this bookstore if visiting KL. It's a popular spot for bookworms and photography lovers.
For the material of bookshelves, I didn't close up to see what type of wood, but I guess should be plywood.
Thank you again, Erne! Happy Friday, have enjoyable weekend and good rest! :))))

Okay, I see. The built-in bookshelves are constructed of plywood. I think the wooden outer layer appears reddish-brownish, so it must probably be in Cherry Finish, just like your name, haha 😁 Anyway, I'm doing alright so far - as usual being productive with work, and thank you for asking. Have a fantastic weekend! Stay healthy always dear friend! 😊

I missed the days when I just leave the house then go to a bookstore and read all I want. By the way, this cinema turned bookstore is the first that I have known so far.
