My Thursday Walk | Why I hugged a tree today

avatar

Greetings fellow Walkers πŸ™Œ

Hello dear walkers πŸšΆβ€β™€πŸšΆ! Today I'll share a special walk and explain to you, dear walker, why I hugged a tree today and its importance to me.

If you never came across one of my posts, let me start by telling you I'm a person that likes to dive into feelings, emotions and reflect about deep thoughts and my inner truth. I believe it's part of my journey to self knowledge and here on Hive I found the freedom I needed to be able to express it.

If you feel this would be an interesting reading, please allow me to walk you through this post 😁 (note to self - pun intended πŸ˜‰. Will I succeed?)

I'm not the best at taking photos but let's start with my favourite picture from today πŸ€—

20220414_152136.jpg

Hold still. Sit up straight. Place your feet on the ground. Relax your shoulders down. Relax your jaw. Breathe in deeply. Hold 1, 2, 3. Exhale slowly.

Can you feel the birds singing? 🐦🐦

My Wednesday Walk πŸ‘£

I was working today and going from house to house when I arrived at a beautiful place, a little village near Sintra in Portugal. I had an appointment around 3:30pm and I got there a little bit early because I was afraid I would be stuck in traffic (note to self - I hate being late to commitments).

I'm so glad I did because it gave me the opportunity to stop in this beautiful, quiet and calm neighbourhood.

20220414_151627.jpg

Don't you just feel an immediate pull to walk here?

Today was unusually hot for the season. We are currently in Spring and at this time, weather is mild and usually varies between rainy days and a little bit of sun lurking in the clouds. But today, as you can see in the picture above, it was a clear blue sky with temperatures around 20ΒΊC.

I thought I should take advantage of this moment and go for a little walk while I waited for the appointed hour with my patient.

Why I hugged a tree πŸ€—

Let's go to the interesting part of this walk?

20220414_152227.jpg

This little crooked tree was the one I selected to hug (note to self - yes, I had a little quick contest to select my tree). Why? Well... Let's just say I'm dealing with a lot lately and my mental health is in a recovering process. In this another journey of mine, I was recently encouraged by a friend to get out of the house more and have more contact with nature.

And yes, she strongly suggested I hugged a tree! Therefore, when I saw this place full of trees I immediately thought of her suggestion. I looked around to see if there was no one near to witness. πŸ˜… I thought about it for about 10 minutes before doing it, I felt embarrassed and silly.

What if someone sees me? What if they think I'm mad?

I breathed deeply, forced myself to think why the hell wouldn't you just try, and went for it!

20220414_152329.jpg

I felt so silly in the beginning (note to self - and now by sharing it) πŸ™ˆπŸ™ˆ. I wanted to run away and just quit this idea, it felt a stupid thing to do.

But then, I started to breathe deeply, focused on the sounds around me, including the little singing birds, and placed my head against the main trunk... And a sort of magic happened. I started to feel the little movements the entire tree was doing in response to the wind. A weird and wonderful connection.

I started to think about it and the tree selection didn't seem so random after all. You see dear walker, just like this tree I too feel fragile, crooked and like any little wind or breeze could knock me out to the ground. Pulling all my roots until total destruction.

I look at myself in that picture above and it's like I don't recognize myself anymore. This is happening when I look at myself in the mirror too. My face feels like it's not my own. My therapist called this depersonification that can happen when your brain is overwhelmed or chemically unbalanced.

This tree has become to me a physical representation of my healing process and for the first time in a long while, today I felt balanced and more grounded. I finally believe that there is light at the end of the tunnel and that there is, in fact, a way out of the hole I'm currently in.

Final considerations πŸ™Œ

If you got this far dear walker, I thank you for your time πŸ™ I hope you enjoyed walking with me inside my mind 😊

I told my partner about today's experiment and he suggested I should do it barefoot πŸ€” It's likely I'll give it a try when the opportunity presents itself, now that I have surpassed the embarrassment and silliness feeling I'm actually excited to give it a go 😎. Maybe I'll come back to share it with you all πŸ€—

What about you dear walker? Have you ever hugged a tree? I would love to know about how was your experience with nature hugging so please be free to tell me all about it in the comment section 😁

Lol... Any random person would have laughed off an advise like this, but I see how you took your friend's word and acted upon it. So funny. Would be a nice scene to witness. Haha.

I'm wondering what a passerby would do if they saw you hugging a trees so passionately πŸ˜‚.

Well, as if that's not enough, I see that you are trying to up the game. So the plan is to recreate this scene while being barefooted. Haha. Would be a sight. Waiting for that.

Thanks for sharing this with us on DreemPort.

Hey @kenechukwu97 😊 I hope you've been well! Although I'm a bit late I wanted to thank you for taking the time to read and comment my post 😁

There was a time I would laugh at this advise, but hey, desperate times calls for desperate measures πŸ˜† I thought it would hurt to try 😁

I'm wondering what a passerby would do if they saw you hugging a trees so passionately

I wonder exactly the same at first! But then I ignored it ahaha

So the plan is to recreate this scene while being barefooted. Haha. Would be a sight. Waiting for that.

Yes, although I haven't done it already! I think it will be easier to do that when I go to my birth city since it mostly country side and mountains 😍

See you around! πŸ€—

Glad to hear that hugging the tree made you feel better. It's funny how little things that may seem weird could be very therapeutic. (note to self hug trees when you feel down).

I'd ask you how your day was, but you've shared the highlight already. Anyway, did you get a gold star?

So true! Sometimes I think we as adults are just too afraid to try or we think just because we are adults we don't need it πŸ˜…

I come a bit late to reply to the gold stars question πŸ˜‚ But I wanted to thank you for taking the time to read and comment my post! πŸ™ Loved your note to self! I'll remind myself of the same!

Bless. I'm so glad you hugged this (little, crooked) tree πŸ’š

What about you dear walker? Have you ever hugged a tree?

Heck yes! Yes, yes, yes. I do it more and more these days. If I'm ever on a bushwalk somewhere new with Brad and there are huge trees I can't help but give them some love. And if I'm ever out and about and not feeling grounded or feeling a bit lost if I see a tree that looks huggable I'll probably hug it.

I'm definitely less concerned with what others think these days than I used to be. (I wanted to--and think I did--hug trees when I was a child and other kids definitely teased me for it so in the beginning I was a bit nervous). It helps that I now recognise/believe that most people are so busy with their own lives that even if they think what I'm doing is weird and even if they go home and tell someone else what I'm doing is weird, they'll probably forget about it 5 seconds later as the next shiny thing or news item flashes up. And if someone was to ask me about it I'd probably just say that it makes me feel good... and do they want to try? 😍 And if they were to say "you're weird" or whatever, then I'd probably just shrug and remember that what they say about me has nothing to do with me and everything to do with the noise inside their own head.

I told my partner about today's experiment and he suggested I should do it barefoot πŸ€” It's likely I'll give it a try when the opportunity presents itself, now that I have surpassed the embarrassment and silliness feeling I'm actually excited to give it a go 😎. Absolutely !LUV it! ❀️❀️❀️ I quite enjoyed it, to be honest! I'm still a bit shy about it but I'm sure that feeling will desapear with time and more practice! heheh 😊

Huumm! πŸ€” I've never thought of it that way! Thank you so much for presenting me a fresh prespective 😁

I think I need to start thinking of a new place to go walk and I'll take the advantage for more tree huges 😁

Although I come late in my replies I hope you have been well! How is life? I have missing out the lastest post from everyone πŸ™ˆ

I love this...and I love trees... and yes I have hugged a few in my life... because...why not...they look so gorgeous and huggable, right? And it feels darn good too!!! That was great advice from your friend. Nature has a very calming influence on our bodies and minds. Find time to walk amongst the trees often in the next few months and I am sure it will help you immensely...and while you're about it...make sure to stop and have a cuddle... it's a real thing - hugging trees❣️ !LUV !ALIVE !hivebits

Absolutely dear Sam!! It feels really good! I think I still didn't achieve the full potencial of that good feeling because of the embarassement πŸ˜† But I'll get there, hopefully πŸ™

I've been feeling a little bit better yes, I've been enjoying a little more off-chain 😊 I've been also getting out of the house a lot more and I'll take it as a good sign 😍

Thank you for all your love and kindness 😘😘😘

I did it again...I keep forgetting πŸ˜‘

I always have crossed legs/ feet πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

Heheheh crossing legs is SOOO common. Myself including! I have a tendency to cross my legs when I'm on the pc or sitting down. Gladly my work doesn't allow me to sit down all the time, so I don't feel a lot of changes because of it πŸ˜†

However I do remind myself when I become conscious about it to uncross them! It's hard but over time you will get there 😁

Also a tip that might help if you do spend most of your day in that position is to place a small box (like a shoe box or something) in front of the chair and place your feet there 😊 That small elevation makes sure you have your hips in a more comfortable position πŸ€—

The main thing is just making sure it's not a position you spend most of your time in. There are no such thing as correct/incorrect posture. Our postures are dynamic and constantly changing. The problem is when they don't change for hours in a row.

The key is MOVEMENT 😍

I have not hugged any trees but @consciouscat has defiantly got thinking differently about them. A running friend recently explained how all the trees need to be together so they can talk to each other, you can hear them when the wind is blowing.

ThereΒ΄s nothing bad in hugging a tree. You are just trying to release yourself from the feelings you had and the things you are going through. Even if people sighted you at that moment, they will surely think you are appreciating nature and trying to release everything in your mind. I guess the walk was worth it?

I am here again to cheer you up as it is that last day of the challenge. Did you remember to drink your water? Did you observed your quiet time yet? DonΒ΄t forget we are getting to the end of the challenge and it has been a great journey for everyone.

Hello, partner :) This is another soulful write-up from you. I actually never thought it is silly to hug a tree because I usually do that in the woods hehe. It's fun although I have not experienced doing it barefoot. But it must be amazing too. Some friends say walking barefoot connects us with mother earth and it feels good. Shall we try it next time? hehe.

And here's to wish you the best on the final day of our challenge. I hope you will snag your 5th gold :)

However, I wanted to stop by to say I deeply appreciated all your support and I'm very happy to get to know a little bit more about you!

I see you are also a tree huger 😁 Now I don't feel such a weirdo! Yey! I love to walk barefoot on the beach no matter how the temperature is or even if it is raining πŸ€— Maybe is that connection with mother earth, I also always loved to listen to the sound of waves. It is so calming to me 😍

Hungry? Here is a little food for thought (not saying I am right, it's just a thought):
Kind of sounds like psychologically and philosopically representative, like you would work (as you do) with the little lowly people that are in distress as well and this makes you happy and fulfilled as this is the position you set yourself in, since hugging an unlikely candidate like this crooked little tree, as the lowly are in the same situation, most would not go near it when there are big strong trees nearby to hug;
This post was obtained through Dreemport.

For me, walking barefoot only if it's on the soft sand of the beach πŸ–πŸ–πŸ–

Sorry I missed this when you posted it, blanchy's song from TTT brought me here today.

I'm glad you hugged that tree and it's helped you. This modern life can be tough at times and there's no manual for it or an absolute right or wrong way to do things, we live and we learn.

Nature is definitely a great way to regain the present, too much looking back or projecting forward is not great in my experience.

I find being very mindful while eating, listening, reading, or whatever the activity is a good grounding.

The barefoot thing is interesting too and i know @trucklife-family swears by barefoot connection with the earth beneath her and the power it holds.

Sending you positive vibes and all good things from afar. Mind yourself and be good to yourself.

No worries at all! I must thank @blanchy 😁 ~

You're right! I think I do too much projecting forward and I'm learning how to manage that better ^^ Writing about it helps me a lot actually 😊

The barefoot thing makes a lot of sense! To be able to feel the earth beneath you it's a powerful thing, possibly only if we are willing to listen.

Thanks a lot for the positive vibes and all the support! Take care and have a great weekend πŸ€—
