Where everything can be bought and sold... without End or Price limit !
You may have guessed it, but the place I want to introduce you to and show you around today is a famous Parisian auction house, the Drouot Auction House !
It's a place I used to go to very regularly a few years ago, I'd even say several times a week, as the atmosphere is particularly lively both during the exhibitions of future items for sale and during the sales themselves.
I'll tell you straight away, I wasn't able to take pictures of the sales because it's forbidden, but on the other hand, there's no problem photographing the objects and works of art on display. As you may have guessed, this article is in support of #MarketFriday, the movement initiated by @dswigle, and I'd like to take this opportunity to thank her for this excellent idea !
But let's get started..!
To get there, the nearest metro station is Richelieu-Drouot, in the Grands Boulevards district of central Paris.
Here's the building and its exterior architecture, a modern hotel that's a little brutalist in style, but it's no more disturbing than that, even if the idea is that things that are exchanged in general have a much older look.
Before rushing into the world of auctions with the friend who was accompanying me that day, we had a quick coffee right outside. For him, it was his first experience of an auction room.
This is what the interior looks like, which is also very modern and uncluttered... despite the many spotlights on the ceiling ^^ ! I wasn't able to take many other pictures of the interior because, although you don't necessarily realize it, there are a lot of people passing through there !
That day, there were three sales in the afternoon and after stopping off there, we took a look around the different exhibition rooms. Here are the first items we saw, and I wouldn't say no to these two Chinese chairs !
These kinds of sceptres also caught my eye and I'd like to take this opportunity to tell you that this is a good place to do business. In fact, if there are no takers for a lot estimated at a certain price, it's sold off and we've seen things go for €10 or €20 that were worth ten times more...
A marble Buddha with almost all the paint removed.
Apparently, this bust represents a buyer who wasn't able to bid and won't be getting the lot he wanted more than anything !
There really is something for everyone. Great wines or old spirits...
Plans of famous monuments...
Awkward things from another time, or fine inlays in ivory or ebony.
Dolls probably from Burma.
And here, a particularly funny lot with a complete collection of over 200 ceramic owls. I wonder who could have this and who's going to buy it ?
Some sets are completely absurd, anachronistic and bizarre, but that's the beauty of it, of course !
This second painted wooden Buddha seems to indicate the last room to be visited...
It's an exhibition of African art, among other things, and I think it's very well presented, even if it's not easy to take pictures through the display cases !
We'll end our visit with this series of small brass objects, candlesticks in particular, with little devils drowning in the liquefied metal... Amusing, isn't it ?
That's all for this time, and I hope you enjoyed your visit. What are your experiences of auction rooms ? Thank you for your time, and have a great weekend !

This is more than amusing.☺️ The items are very interesting and yes some are odd and absurd.😁 But it's the collection of owls that caught my attention. I'd probably take those if I had the money.
Haha ! I was exactly wondering who wants such an amount of owls ! I should have posted that before the sale ^^

ENTER @WIN.HIVE'S DAILY DRAW AND WIN HIVE!
One could find real treasures in those auctions. They are fun to attend.
You do see weird things come by too.
Thanks for sharing @anttn 👋🏻😊
Have a fantastic weekend 😘
Definitely a place like I like them, full of art and absurd thing, the whole thing in an intense energy :)
I hope you're doing well dear @littlebee4, as your installation is following a good pace 😉
Take good care and have a lovely day 😘
Oh I know… they are fun. Hope to find some here too.
I am well and brainstorming our next steps. We are thinking at the moment. Buy a ruin on a plot and renovate our selves or buy land and build a cob house or earthship our selves.
Maybe I start designing / drawing and see where it ends up 😉🤓
We visited in the weekend a few abandon / derelict cottages. So we know what’s available, but all not right for us.
But I am in no hurry at all… we have all the time we need. Whatever direction we may go.
Exciting times. 😎
Thanks a lot @anttn you too, take good care and enjoy your week!

Earthship may be a great idea and I've to say we really hesitated too about building our own house...
Maybe for the next one, who knows ?
This is exciting times indeed and I know that something beautiful will arrives from that !
I hope you had a great week and weekend dear @littlebee4,
sorry for answering that late, may be my personal record 😱😂
Yes, I have been researching it forever.
I will make a hybrid. As the climate and wet weather wouldn’t be good for the tire walls… so I go towards straw bake and cob house built now.
Indeed… you never know. Maybe the next one… or even something on your land.
Thanks a lot, I love these exciting times!
No worries @anttn all fine. I fully understand. We all get busy from time to time.
My week and weekend was great.
Have a wonderful evening and happy new month, hope it will be fantastic 😎
Take care! 😘
I can imagine of course ! Habitation is surely a topic that is passionating :)
You're right, this might be a better solution with the humidity in the area... This is also the same in the region we found our house, so much rain and water, but it's good for gardening hehe !
Yeah, I tend to be overflowed by many things, but there is always a moment of calm after that :)
I hope you're going well too and that this month is announcing good !
Have a lovely day 😘
Yes… it’s a passion for sure for me too.
So straw bale and cob it is, with enough of an overhang of the roof so the rain doesn’t go always against the walls. Soon after I gathered more info about planning in Ireland I start drawing the plans 🤓
This climate It’s perfect for gardening indeed.
I have the same at the moment, still doing paperwork next to everything. Got caught up yesterday with importing the car at the center… not done yet, so back coming week. Hope we get the new number plates soon.
Let’s make it a good month.
Thank you kindly 😘
Happy weekend!
Mmmh, I would be curious to discover a bit your plans !
Courage for all that tasks hehe :)
I wish you a pleasant and busy week ✌️
Maybe I will share those steps here in hive too… or just with you. Will think about it 😉
Thanks a lot 👋🏻😊 we will get through, eventually.
Thank you. Today was a bank holiday and it was dry after lunch so we went out for a walk.
It was lovely. Will share soon.
Hope your week started well too.
Enjoy ☀️🌺

I did… hehehe 🤭 nope… we seem to be buzzzzyyyy 😉
You too, take care 😘
Never been in an auction house myself. It looks like they have some inreresting pieces there.
Thanks for sharing that experience.
Take care!
You've been curated by @plantpoweronhive! Delegations welcome!
Thanks for sharing @anttn , another place of interest in Paris to visit!
It was a fascinating read, and I enjoyed seeing all the different objects that were up for auction. I've never been to an auction house before, but I'm definitely intrigued now.
I especially liked the collection of African art that you mentioned. The pieces were so well-presented, and I loved the details of the sculptures. I also thought the series of brass objects with little devils drowning in the liquefied metal was very unique and interesting.
