Hello Feathered Friends Community!

What did I know about mallards before I decided to prepare this post yesterday? Nothing. Like all of you, I have met billions of different ducks in my walks and travels, but their species and names have always remained a mystery to me. By the way, the ability to learn something new while preparing posts is one of the undeniable advantages of running your own blog.

It turns out that mallards are the most common species of wild ducks with strongly pronounced sexual dimorphism — this means that males are quite different from females in their appearance. But I will not retell one of the many articles about mallards that are available on the Internet. My small photo story is intended for Show Me A Photo contest (Round 4 theme The More The Merrier).

In the second picture, you can see the city on the horizon, because I discovered these amazing birds in the city. This is Kazan, the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia. In January 2020, I visited this city for tourist purposes and, while walking along one of the river channels, I saw a large cluster of hungry ducks. Until yesterday, these ducks were just ducks to me. Now I know that these are mallards (the ones with the green head are males). If you are interested, you can read more about this duck species here, here, and here.

Thank you for a wonderful contest, @nelinoeva! I hope you like my pictures. :)

I couldn't say it better. You have no idea how much I have learned about the birds thanks to the photos I made and later putiing them togetehr in blogs.

Thank you for your entry!

У нас тоже полным-полно крякв, несмотря на очень низкие температуры.
Вот, советую посмотреть это видео, о том, чем кормить зимой уток
