My Favorite Coffee Mug
Hive 5

As pointed in a comment by @grampo on my previous post about my experience on giving a try to WAIVIO,

you may share 2 photos of your favorite coffee mug and get $5

I thought I could use that call and give it a second try while also reaching out to the community to find who else knows about this interface.

This was not an easy task... I had to go dig my mug from the back of the cupboard as this one was not used in a while, but it's one of my favourite ones.

No need to explain right?

And then, when you turn it around...

Easy peasy right? PUB it is!

There was actually a pointer on a sucker (not sure where that is) that you could stick into the middle of this and rotate it like a wheel of fortune. Pretty cool.

Some obvious things I love already

I gotta confess that even if there is similar stuff out there (don't get me wrong, I know a lot of stuff) when you try out things, the user experience is all that really matters.

  • Easy to write a quick post and format it as you go
  • Auto-saving works really nice!
  • Uploading pictures with no issues (big ones even)
  • Love the feature of clicking on the hyperlink to show the actual link
  • The Communities integration works better than I thought, providing extra info to both readers and writers
  • Hashtags simplified mode! Love it! Makes sense! I hate to mangle with these manually (although I value you can add them later, but maybe the user needs a hint about it)
  • The Campaigns section is very VERY VEEEEERRRY ATTRACTIVE!

Suggestions

Already mate? Yes, I am like that. During this post, I have already noticed a couple of things I would love to have, so hear me out:

  • Emoji's quick button/option - Everyone needs those suckers!
  • Some spell checkers are not able to scan the text (Grammarly can though)
  • An option to view the post in plain HTML (even if copy-pasting HTML works great and even Markup)
  • When editing the post in a different position (like re-adding an image somewhere in the middle) the cursor should stay where we are (and not go to the bottom after you press enter) - this is just a personal preference
  • Copying the post contents to google email or document worked quite well, but the other way around removes the images (replaces them with a photo emoji!!!) - would be nice if the image links could be carried out or auto-redetected
  • The rewards/campaign distribution toggles (at the bottom) need a bit more clarity so users understand what it means and also some info about how the rewards are going to be processed by the post (before the preview, as a default thing, maybe)

Aside from these and all around I had a very great experience. I will definitely keep exploring this UI.

@forykw! Thanks a ton for such a detailed review of your Waivio experience.

We want to make Hive very simple and attractive for new users. Waivio offers quick guest accounts (social login via Google, Facebook), news navigation (following users, hashtags and objects), simple editor (including smartphones) and more.

And yet, Waivio is not just another interface for Hive social blockchain. We are building a platform for business 3.0, where independent parties are integrated through the use of an open business process to function as a single entity and achieve the scale, which would not be otherwise possible.

For example, the Rewards section on Waivio lists all current attention bids that are published on the Hive blockchain. And out of hundreds of hyper local offers, only one of them is sponsored by Waivio - the My Favorite Coffee Mug. All other rewards are sponsored by other sponsors.

Another major innovation by Waivio are wiki-style public objects on Hive blockchain. For example, you can create a restaurant listing on Hive and when users reference it in their posts, all of their reviews will be aggregated there. For example, Cardero's Restaurant (Vancouver, BC, Canada).

Also you can launch a promo campaign by announcing rewards to users for referencing that restaurant in their posts and posting original photos of select dishes. Essentially it works like a rebate program. Customers order a meal, pay full price, then post photos of the dish on Hive and get a rebate. Rebates are denominated in USD but paid as a combination of upvotes and liquid HIVE.

The exact amount in HIVE is set at the time of reward reservation according to the current exchange rate. User will have 5-7 days to complete the review.

Waivio makes it even easier for guests to cash their earnings via any Bitcoin ATM (convert HIVE to BTC/LTC/ETH) .

Guides help restaurants manage these rebates program and collect on average 25% from total rewards paid. This a nice business (managing just 20 restaurants should provide you a solid recurring income), that does not require much money to start, no office, no inventory and can be managed on a flexible schedule from any place in the world.

I was compelled to post a longer reply, since you obviously invested so much effort in sharing your feedback as well.

P.S.
Now I know what you've meant by the need to fund the mug first ;-) Good one too!

Appreciate the reply and info. I will keep playing with it and sharing the great work as I usually do. HIVE is getting super popular... extensive amazing ecosystem that all alone in 2020 is expanding off the charts.

Re: suggestions:

Emoji's quick button/option - Everyone needs those suckers!

Cool, yeh. We'll add it to the plan.

Some spell checkers are not able to scan the text (Grammarly can though)

This should be investigated further. Suggestions on iPhone and Android should be working now, but spellcheckers are a separate issue.

An option to view the post in plain HTML (even if copy-pasting HTML works great and even Markup)

We have it in the plan, but there are some issues with converting back and forth between our layout language (saving drafts) and the Markup.

When editing the post in a different position (like re-adding an image somewhere in the middle) the cursor should stay where we are (and not go to the bottom after you press enter) - this is just a personal preference

We already minimized such instances, but more work is required.

Copying the post contents to google email or document worked quite well, but the other way around removes the images (replaces them with a photo emoji!!!) - would be nice if the image links could be carried out or auto-redetected

Right now you can paste a single image into the editor, but pasting a text with multiple images is a technical challenge. This is why we replace them with small icons to indicate a place where an image supposed to be.

Markup (with image references) posts can be copied and pasted freely, but an average person may not be familiar with it. We tested it with people and it didn't work. That's why we invested so much time into building a simple editor.

Our editor works on mobiles, which is not that easy. Even Medium does not support post creation of smartphones.

The rewards/campaign distribution toggles (at the bottom) need a bit more clarity so users understand what it means and also some info about how the rewards are going to be processed by the post (before the preview, as a default thing, maybe)

In order for a post to qualify for a reward, that reward must be reserved. All reserved rewards are aggregated in Rewards/Reserved. Each reservation has a link "Write review" which creates the proper draft for a review. When review is submitted, the system will inform the user if all of the technical requirements were met.

Formally, your post didn't qualify for the reward, because there was no preliminary reservation. At the current exchange rate you should have received 40 HIVE, which we'll process manually. Thanks a lot for your thoughtful feedback.

Awesome explanations mate. Especially on that last bit as I was not actually getting it. Now crystal clear! Thanks for keeping up.
